Iran has warned that it will strike Western warships stationed in the Gulf if it is attacked over its nuclear program.
The country's defense minister, Ahmad Vahidi said that the 90 warships stationed in the Persian Gulf -- a waterway crucial for world oil supplies -- would become targets if Iran was attacked.
Vahidid said that the vessels included submarines, aircraft carriers and destroyers, according to comments published by the semi-official Fars news agency.

Gotta figure that this is why some of the nuke sites are located near “Shia Holy Cities” like Qom. Hit a facility near there and inflame the Shia everywhere as Iran is certain to claim that we bombed a shrine.
The real strategy appears to be grabbing Iranian scientists & industrial sabotage. The question is will the Iranian Revolution happen before this ‘holding action’ fails to hold? Tough question.

Ok Let me get this down pat.
1) Israel hits Iran’s Nuke Plants.
2) Iran Attacks US Fleet (or those of our allies)
3) We reply with bombardment and perhaps Occupation of coast.
4) Congress declares war on Iran.
5) Draft is put in place, gas is rationed, defense plants open up. We get less junk from China etc...
6) We invade Iran and bring them a true Republic.
7) Iranian oil pays for their liberation and reconstruction rather than the usual looting of the US treasury.

Monkeyboy Achmadenijad is just trying to raise the spirits of his addled followers. A counterattack on our Navy when its on a war footing would be suicidal. Iran would go for soft targets instead. Our forces should have plenty of info on Iranian tactics from Iraq and the battles that Israel has been fighting with Iran-backed groups.
