EDITORIAL: Menacing turn in Black Panther case--The Justice Department asserts tyrannical privileges
The Washington Times ^ | January 13, 2010 | Editorial

The Justice Department told the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to drop dead yesterday. The growing controversy is over a voter-intimidation case involving the radical New Black Panther Party and why Justice is carrying water for the villains. The department's intransigence should frighten Congress because Justice is asserting broad privileges that undermine congressional authority to oversee government's executive branch.

That's why the timing is propitious today for the House Judiciary Committee to consider, and approve, a resolution of inquiry introduced by Rep. Frank Wolf, Virginia Republican. The Wolf resolution would direct Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to "transmit to the House of Representatives, not later than 14 days after the date of adoption of this resolution, copies of any document, memo or correspondence of the Department of Justice with regard to United States v. New Black Panther Party."

Democrats tempted to kill this resolution today on a party-line vote should understand that they would be setting a precedent with ramifications far beyond this case. The constitutional balance of powers would be fundamentally shifted away from Congress to an unaccountable executive, and future corruption easily could go unchecked.

The Commission on Civil Rights, acting according to explicit statutory authority to subpoena executive departments, demanded that Justice answer 49 detailed questions, with accompanying document requests. In yesterday's response, the department wrote that on the basis of seven distinct claimed "privileges," it objects "to each and every Interrogatory and Document Request."...

Let's hope that the Dems realize the implications of letting Holder, et al, go unchecked. I won't hold my breath. They obviously think that, with all they are planning on passing this year, they will probably always be in power. Pray that Scott Brown wins and sends a message to the Dems that the country will rise up and throw them out if they don't behave Constitutionally.

Sustaining such a privilege would let an executive agency assert that anything it self-defines as its "mission" would be immune from scrutiny.

Well, yes. That's basically the point, isn't it? The funny part is when the author tells Dems they should worry about the "precedent" they'll send by not opposing Justice's behavior. *snort* As if.

The Dems may think they will always be in power and be able to implement whatever tyranical policies they want to,

but they forget “we the people”.

This is a very disturbing story, especially since the quote from the perps is “this ain’t America no more” and Holder seems to be bearing this out.

A *lot* more noise ought to be made about this and I truly hope further congressional action is taken.

This pretty much sucks. Big time.

Conservatives, inherently, wouldn’t do this sort of thing, and won’t use it to political or other advantage if they gain power.

This sort of thing is totally the purview of those that are goals oriented instead of rules oriented.

IF?

In my opinion.......Our voting laws are the most sacred laws in the whole country. Everything should stop until these laws are enforced. Without them, we have no rights. The New Black Panther Party should be brought before the people in a trial immediately. The proof is in the videos that we have all seen. No reason to drag this situation out, unless it is to purposelly violate our laws.

We, the People, were not a force in the last election. We, the People, MUST BE a force in the next election.

The Dems could care less about what the future holds regarding this issue, because they know should a Repub administration attempt to do something similar (based on “precedent”) all they have to do is go crying to the media and they’ll stop it in its tracks. The Dems know they have a double-standard and they know how to use it successfully to their advantage. So they will continue to do whatever they please — esp. now while they hold power at all 3 levels — and to hell with any “future precedent.”

To be blunt,
if the government refuses to do anything about this,
the people will.

It would appear that the democrats have figured out how to negate ‘we the people’ using SEIU, ACORN, and a host of dependency schemes now well established and very well funded with ‘stimulus money’. Van Jones’s Apollo Alliance wasn’t just shuffling their feet when they wrote the stimulus bill for the demcorats. Harry Reid even thanked them openly for their great assistance. That’s a fairly strong indication that the dnc bastards are now confident they can control or negate the ‘we the people’ responses.

Exactly. That's why the Dems don't care about setting a precedent.

I know, I know. But THIS ONE should wake everyone up. Those New Black Panthers will be intimidating every neighborhood if Holder/Obama get their way. Remember the National Security Force they want? I suspect it would be made up of Union thugs and the New Black Panthers.

this whole admin is crooked.

The GOP should be all over this and not let up at all.

We all would lie to know why charges were dropped when so much evidence was there to convict there racists.

Now where is the left on this, I thought they said they hate racists , so why the silence or is it because the racists are black.?
