Good Riddance to Decade That Began With Theft of the Presidency
Nation ^ | December 31, 2009 | John Nichols

Posted on 12/31/2009 4:20:58 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

The original sin of the good-riddance decade came in December of 2000, when the United States Supreme Court intervened to stop a complete recount of the votes in Florida and then declared George Bush to be the president.

This extreme judicial activism was not merely a devastating assault on American democracy. It set in motion the Bush presidency, and with it the pathologies that the Bush-Cheney administration imposed on the country in the form of unnecessary wars, failed economic policies, assaults on civil liberties and crudely divisive and hyper-partisan governance.

Bush, Dick Cheney and aides are surely to blame for much of what ailed America during the 2000s, and for what will ail America for decades to come.

But it was the U.S. Supreme Court's unprecedented meddling in the presidential election process – an intervention that would have horrified the founders of a republic that was supposed to enjoy a separation of executive, legislative and judicial powers – made the Bush-Cheney interregnum possible.

“remember the postmarks weren’t correct!”

The law required that they be EITHER “postmarked by” OR “received by.”

The ballots were “received by,” but the vile reprobates of the left pretended that the lack of a postmark allowed them to exclude those votes.

That was explicitly countrary to both the letter and spirit of the law.

Including the lie that this is the *end* of the decade??

If you respected the true believers' multi-cultural diversity, you would realize that for them, all life began in the Year of The Zero; that's way they have been waiting for the chosen one for so long.

What a crock!!! The fact is Pinko Gore tried to rob the Presidency from Bush. Gore with his minions o the FL. Supreme Court sought to rewrite the law in the middle of an election and was “checkmated” by the Supremes. The RATS never stop lying.

“I didn’t think the USSC stopped a “complete” recount, but just a recount of the precincts Algore wanted recounted?”

The Florida supreme court (hereinafter, “commie scum”) agreed to let the dims throw out Florida election law and establish new procedures that would allow them to recount their way to “victory.”

The US Supreme Court *twice* told the commie scum that the US Constitution required that they abide by Florida law as it existed on the day of the election.

This is what the leftards—may God show them the error of their wicked ways—call “stealing the election.”

What filth.

Why are we having threads from this POS - are we now going to see postings from National Inquirer and all the other rags that guide a person into the checkout at supermarkets?

Let’s just close down and make this another DU posting site.

If Gore had won his HOME state, the Florida issue would have been moot. Liberals refuse to face this fact.

Very good point. Unfortunately, it is way to logical for any liberals so they have no choice but to ignore it! That's SOP for progressives.

Liberals are also exceedingly stupid. For instance, they have now elevated Gore to god-like status, even though his AGW spiel is pure crap.

The decade began with hyperbole and hysteria (Y2K) fresh in our minds and will end with hyperbole and hysteria (climate change) fresh in our minds.

“Pres. Bush (a real natural citizen) actually won the election.”

But he wasn’t supposed to, the press hawked Gov. Bush like a two dollar watch, sprung their little October surprise, and he WON.... they wuz robbed. That’s partly why he was, along with Nixon (Hiss & Vietnam) , more hated than any other presidents in recent memory.

I've been thinking about how much damage Al Gore did to the nation. He was unable to accept the 2000 election night results with any grace or consideration of the greater damage he was doing. He threw the country into a weeks-long controversy as he litigated the election. Thus (1) providing a “legend” that Bush's win was illegitimate - emboldening the partisan attacks like this article, and (2) giving more energy to the efforts to kill the Electoral College - witness the states that have passed laws that try to force their electors to cast votes in accordance with the national popular vote tally. And if that weren't enough....Global Warming Scam-Dogma has and will do more vast amounts of damage to our sovereignty, economy, and liberties. If only he had stuck with just inventing the Internet.

Exactly...one of the biggest mathematical “breakthroughs” was when the zero quantity was accepted...or the “zeroth” power in formulations. I believe that began in the 1920s.
Try explaining to a class that the (second) millenium actually ended on Dec. 31, 2000 and the new one began one second after midnight of the next day. Or better yet, try explaining that to someone who paid $700 a night for a hotel for the “millenium” celebration in NYC on Dec 31, 1999, only to find out that they were a year too soon.

I’m looking forward to the day we can say good riddance to this Fascist rag as it prints its ultimate issue.
