Voters Frown on Health Plan Details - Abortion, Proof of Citizenship, Public Option
Rasmussen Reports ^ | December 24, 2009

Posted on 12/25/2009 2:58:05 PM PST by reaganaut1

Senate Democrats are celebrating this morning for passing their version of health care reform, but voters still don’t like much of what they see.

At the start of the week, 41% of voters nationwide were in favor of the health care bill, but 55% were opposed. This is the fifth straight week with support for the legislation between 38% and 41%. Rasmussen Report is continuing to track support for the plan on a weekly basis and will have new numbers on Monday morning. Part of the opposition comes from a general skepticism about Congress, rather than specific policy issues.

But there are specific policy issues that also raise challenges as the Democrats try to pass a final version of this legislation in early 2010.

Fifty-four percent (54%) say taxpayer-funded health insurance should be prohibited from covering abortions, up six points from September. The House version of the legislation includes such a prohibition, but the Senate version does not.

Fourteen percent (14%) of U.S. voters say health insurance paid for or subsidized with government funding should be required to cover abortions. Twenty-nine percent (29%) say the legislation should have no requirements one way or the other.

On another hot-button topic, 87% believe that before anyone receives government health care subsidies, they should be required to prove they are legally in the United States. President Obama and congressional Democrats insist the health care plan will not cover illegal immigrants, the legislation does not require proof of citizenship for those seeking taxpayer-funded health care help.

I think fines for not having health insurance will become the most unpopular provision when people become aware of it.

As Dick Morris points out those fines are small compared to the cost of health insurance and most young people will pay them rather than get insurance. Of course, you’re still right, it doesn’t mean they will LIKE paying them...

“Was Democrats’ Health Care Strategy Written In Federal Prison?
Rep. Schakowsky’s husband, Robert Creamer, used to be the leader of Citizen
Action/Illinois. He also founded its predecessor, Illinois Public Action, in which Ms.
Schakowsky served as Program Director. He runs a political consulting firm, the
Strategic Consulting Group, which lists ACORN and the SEIU among its clients and
which made $541,000 working for disgraced former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich.

“Creamer resigned from Citizen Action/Illinois after the FBI began investigating him for
bank fraud and tax evasion at Illinois Public Action. He was convicted in 2006 and
sentenced to five months in federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, plus eleven months of house arrest.
While in prison—or “forced sabbatical,” he called it—Creamer wrote a lengthy political
manual, Listen to Your Mother: Stand Up Straight! How Progressives Can Win (Seven
Locks Press, 2007). The book was endorsed by leading Democrats and their allies,
including SEIU boss Andy Stern—the most frequent visitor thus far to the Obama White
House—and chief Obama strategist David Axelrod, who noted that Creamer’s tome
“provides a blueprint for future victories.”

“CATO: OBAMACARE PRICE TAG IS 6 TRILLIONS
When we correct for both gimmicks, counting both on- and off-budget costs over the first 10 years of implementation, the total cost of ObamaCare reaches — I’m so sorry about this — $6.25 trillion.“

“The former CBO director, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, warns today on the effect ObamaCare
will have on our economy and health care. …This bill will lead to a huge middle class tax increase:
The bill creates a new health entitlement program that the Congressional Budget Office
(CBO) estimates will grow over the longer term at a rate of 8% annually, which is much
faster than the growth rate of the economy or tax revenues.“

”When Barack Obama ran for president, he promised that his health care plan would
"lower health-care costs by $2,500 for the typical family." Now, it turns out that new
legislation that he supports creating public-private "co-operatives" will increase the costs
of family health insurance by $4,000 by 2019.”

Don’t they have to send it back to the House?

Yes, but apparently Reid and Pelosi will work things out behind closed doors. So much for C-Span and transparency.

That said, here is what normally happens: we see a bill we hate. We call, email, fax, write. Congress ignores us and passes the bill anyway. We give up the fight, feel dejected for a few hours, then continue on our merry way. We have accepted the inevitable and become obedient sheeple to more, intrusive, abusive big government. After all, they must be smarter than we, the people.

THIS CANNOT HAPPEN THIS TIME!

From now until November 2010, we continue emailing, calling, visiting, faxing, going to town hall meetings, writing. We continue protests in D.C. and all cities across the U.S.A, especially the state capitols. We have to keep the pressure on. Why? Because the American people - you know, “We, the people” - must be awakened. Because it is they who are needed to vote most of this incorrigibly-corrupt Congress.

http://pushbackuntil.com (especially http://pushbackuntil.com/Mandates.htm) specifies what laws we need passed to ensure that our country continues to exist. Because Congress has placed us in such a deep hole fiscally, and it appears that absolutely none of them - do not listen to what they say - is doing anything to solve that problem.

Oh - and we have to have conservatives run for these offices. If we just sit around complaining, we will get what we have been getting for decades. So either run or help someone you know run. Get commitments from those seeking you vote that they will not just go to Congress or your state legislature and passively watch bills come up for vote - they have to have the courage and determination to methodically and gradually REPEAL big government’s intrusions (social security, cap and trade, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare, mandates on insurance companies, corporate welfare, insane debt, unlimited spending, and so forth). Donate time and money. Talk to your neighbors and friends. Act! And pass on the http://pushbackuntil.com URL so everyone knows the plan and the way to execute that plan.

I intend to, every month, support true conservatives all over the U.S. who are running. Even if its only ten bucks for each person, I plan on doing it.

When my children grow up, I don’t want to look in their faces and explain why I didn’t do anything.

That is exactly what I told my wife last night. If they are conservative, they need our support. Because the people who are in Congress now - the majority of them - are inept, irresponsible, incorrigible, and corrupt. We have to boot them out, then institute term limits and limits on the amount of money they can spend.

Most of them are spineless weaklings who are afraid of offending anybody. They need to be purged out of office.
