VIDEO: Rifqa Bary's Parents (Interview)

First off, what kind of "fundamentalist Muslims" would allow their daughter to be an all-American CHEERLEADER and to wear skirts that short to boot? Secondly, I looked up the website of the "Christian group" Rifqa joined and am kind of weary of its overall mission and agenda. "Global Revolution Church?" *I don't want to judge* though.

Thirdly, I am worried that this entire ordeal has damaged the Christian witness in this country further by showing 1) Christians looking EAGER to point out and make enemies of the very people we're trying to save 2) Blindly going along with whatever the media feeds us 3) Ignoring BIBLICAL standards. I don't want to judge Rifqa's thoughts or motives, "dishonoring" one's parents--whether the parents be Christian like you or not, is a GRAVE SIN! The Old Testament makes that very clear as does CHRIST in the New Testament. MATTHEW 15 anyone?

3Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' 5But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,' 6he is not to 'honor his father' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: 8" 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men"

Christ doesn't necessarily call for new believers to evangelize and preach to their parents 24-7, but to behave well and acts as representatives for the faith in a household of unbelievers. Of course one must prayerfully consider the implications of being a believer in extreme circumstances--but I do NOT believe Rifqa Bary's case falls under this category.

Once again, here's the link of Bary's parents: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6P9Fzw9arQ

I know that there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Mike Huckabee and his judgment lately as well, but even he (and I agree with him) agrees that there is misplaced hysteria over this particular matter. Fundamentalist Islam and events such as honor killings DO go on no doubt, but I agree with him that the Bary's do not fall under this camp and I think they've been misrepresented very unfairly by the media...To me, it's looking more and more like a typical family matter and not a case of Sharia law violation. Here is Mike Huckabee's analysis of the issue on Fox News Channel from a few months ago:

The parents were coached how to appear to the media after the story broke. The threats were real and in keeping with the Koran. Rifqa could easily have been another Amina and Sarah.

regardless of whether that is true or not, there is VERY little evidence that they were Sharia law abiding Muslims preceding this entire ordeal. You don’t think it’s funky that these “fundamentalist Muslims” allowed their daughter to be a cheerleader? Why isn’t she wearing a hijab if they’re “so extreme.” ?

And there are more questions like that I have.

The tears of the mother looked real enough to me.

This is basically what I’ve been saying from the start. What kind of pastor trolls the internet striking up friendships with troubled minor females, and then encourages them to run away from home, to *his* home, and then harbors her there for 2 weeks without notifying authorities, even though Ohio police have a nationwide alert out for her? And there was anouther “pastor” involved, who drove her to the bus station in Ohio. It was only after authorities caught up with him and were threatening him with arrest, that he allowed them to search his computer and they found the info about the “pastor” she’d gone to. He then notified the Florida pastor that authorities were on their way to him, and it was only then that the Florida pastor called Florida authorities to tell them he had her.

These “pastors”, especially the Florida one, are using this girl for their won self-promotional purposes. They should both be locked up.

Har de Har, har.
Rifqa says she’s in danger.
That’s good enough for me.

Because honor killing is just a figment of our imagination. It certainly wouldn't happen HERE! /sarcasm

The parents were coached how to appear to the media after the story broke.

So was Rifqa.

I would be better for you that a millstone be tied around your neck and to be flung into the deepest sea.
