WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Prince William County Police say they have one man in custody on the Northern Virginia Community College Woodbridge campus after shots were fired in a classroom. The campus was placed on emergency lockdown, but no injuries were reported.
According to investigators, they were notified around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday of a student who was armed with a gun on the campus. Officers responded to the scene, and the college was put on lockdown.
A Prince William County Police spokesperson says the gunman, who is a male student, went into a classroom and pointed a gun at a female teacher. The spokesperson says the teacher hit the floor when she saw the gun, and the gunman then fired shots, but no one was hit.
Witnesses told FOX 5 the shooting took place in a fourth-floor classroom.
No injuries were reported, and tactical teams are conducting a safety sweep of the entire campus.
Classes have been cancelled for the day and the campus has been closed, school officials say. All evening activities scheduled at the campus were also cancelled.
One student at the scene told FOX 5's Wisdom Martin that the student stood up in the classroom and said, 'I'm about to make history,' before pointing a gun at the teacher.

Heh- this happened in my town. I heard about it on the way home from work.
So how is that campus gun ban working out for you VA?
I’ve consulted down there, but haven’t had the wife down because the area just isn’t safe.
And that’s with the .40 S&W USPc on the right hip with a CCW.
Lucky that the guy decided not to kill anybody. Dropping on the floor works sometimes to avoid the 1st shot, but it doesn’t help much if the gunman walks around the desk and shoots you point-blank.
I’m wondering if someone intervened, and we haven’t heard that part of the story. The guy has been arrested, and I’d love to know how.

It would if you then were able to fill his ash with lead. But of course, that would not be politically correct. At a Virginia College or an Army post.
I thought after the VT incident they still opposed guns on campus.
