Id call it a palate cleanser except that its too riveting and simply
too sad for that. Not only is this poor woman put through the wringer, it sounds like the guy breaking in was out of his gourd: They didnt know each other, yet he was screaming threats and resorted to throwing patio furniture through the back door to get in. Reportedly, when the cops found his sister to let her know, she was so high she was nearly unconscious, so thats the theory for his behavior at the moment. No word yet on what he was on.

Good God..!
She displays good tactical knowledge: encouraged by the dispatcher to retreat into a small bathroom, she is reluctant, as a small bathroom would impede her ability to most effectively bring a long-gun to bear.
All the same, at no point does she display a cowboy attitude. She also displays clear grief after her (one) shot.
5 Stars for her performance!
I was ready to cry once I could catch my breath at the grit and courage and level headedness this woman showed in this situation.
Also, the dispatcher was awesome. Being supportive and hitting exactly the right tone of looking for options and supporting her need to defend herself. Well Done.
Interesting: she said her son is the chief of police for a Shawnee Tribe reservation.
You know, I’ve wanted to know what happened but I am easily moved and can’t bring myself to hear this woman’s heart break. Has anyone seen a transcript or a written encapsulation somewhere?
Just the way it should happen.
Shotgun. no need for a follow up shot.
It took TWENTY MINUTES for the police to arrive.
TWENTY MINUTES.
Don’t tell me people don’t need guns to defend themselves in this country.
As the saying goes, “when seconds count, help is minutes away.”
Guns definitely make a difference.
A link to my own experience just a few days ago. Although no one was shot, I believe the guy saw the print of the gun through the coat and stopped in his tracks:

People ask why I do own a gun: Because I can’t carry a cop and when seconds count the cops are only “minutes” away. In this woman’s case, almost 20 minutes went by. IF she hadn’t had the gun and shot the intruder when she did, she could easily been killed long before those those LEOs got there. I feel for her though. Its not a light thing killing a person. You have to live with it a long, long time.
Wow! I am crying for this woman. Thank God she had the ability to defend herself. She handled herself well. That would be me on that phone knowing what I had to do but not wanting to do it.
May the Father grant her peace. She performed flawlessly!
I am in awe of your coolness under duress.
According to another site a 16 gauge. Carries like a 20, hits like a 12... as the perp would attest, if he could.
“Wow, that’s a really good story you got there.
I am in awe of your coolness under duress...”
Actually, I was scared spit-less. That guy was loud, aggressive, threatening and I was no match for him physically (he was probably mid-20s and I’m 59)....I didn’t want to shoot the guy unless I absolutely had to in self-defense as a last resort. IF he had made the motion to assault me, those women or that kid, I would have had no other recourse but to shoot him right there on the spot in self-defense. That would have been a bad situation in a really crowded area like that with a lot of folks standing there watching. An innocent by-stander could easily catch a ricochet or get caught in the line of fire behind the guy. I was never so glad to see those sheriff’s cars in my life.... It was a tough situation for me to deal with and I’m glad it went down the way it did. No one got assaulted, hurt, shot or killed...for that, I’m very thankful.
