11/19: Giuliani ... Would Be Formidable Candidate for U.S. Senate [Marist Poll: Rudy 54, KGill 40]
Marist Poll ^ | November 19, 2009 | Marist Poll

Published reports out today have squelched the long-standing rumors that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will run for governor of New York State.

But, what if Giuliani makes a bid for the U.S. Senate? Giuliani leads U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the Democrat appointed by Governor David Paterson to fill the vacant seat left by Hillary Clinton. 54% of registered voters statewide would vote for Giuliani compared with 40% who would support Gillibrand. Even one-third of Democrats report they would back the Republican challenger, and Giuliani runs competitively against Gillibrand in overwhelmingly Democratic New York City.

Anyone following the potential pickups?

Ried, Dodd, Specter, Now Gillebrand, that is 4 of the 10 toss ups.

Anyone else care to handicap the senate?

I agree as he is more liberal on social issues, but he does care about the Second Amendment and our other freedoms, something that is missing in the current WH. He has to be better than Patterson’s pick and I think he can win it.

Those are all potentials, but I expect Reid, Dodd and Specter would be the three toughest pick-ups. No way are the Dems going to let those 3 old coots lose without a hell of a fight. At this point, a safer pick-up looks like Blanche Lincoln, which just this past spring looked like it would take a miracle.

I will never again vote for the lesser of two evils. I don’t even care if Sarah is on his ticket.

Ping. 805 registered NYS voters, and running competitively in NYC. Too good to be true?

RG for the record is not for gay marriage. That aside, he’s one helluvalot better than the status quo.

It would be much better if he ran for Governor. If he won and ran the state the way he ran the city, we’d be solvent in no time. In the Senate, he’s going to team up with McCain and Lindsay Gramnesty to try to move the party to the marshmallow middle.

I love Rudy. Would love to love Senator Rudy!

And, yep, he’s my preference for 2012. I’d pay to see President Rudy take on the Congress and the media!

(I know, everyone here is supposed to hate Rudy/Mitt and root for Sarah/Huck/etc. But I want a prez who’s not afraid to break some eggs and knock some heads. Rudy’s my guy)

Rudy, as a manager, an executive, is probably more attracted to the position of Governor. I suspect he might tyake a pass on it , and opt for the Senate race insteard, for two reasons..

1. He'd have a tough race against Cuomo

2. NY state is a mess..totally..the the Dems control the sewer..er, Albany..the state will probably implode like California, so better to take a pass..

NYS and California need to be left to Democrat governors for a good while, just to let their party and ideology take the fall.
