Prince Charles was at odds with ministers today over plans to abolish history and geography lessons in schools. The Prince of Wales is said to be 'passionate' about protecting traditional lessons in British history and English literature in the classroom. Bernice McCabe, a leading headteacher and one of the Prince's closest advisers, has criticised education reforms which she says will leave schools as 'globalised theme

HRH can be quite interesting. He goes off the deep end on global warming and the like but he really defends Great Britain's traditions as this battle with Nu Labour and his lifelong fight against ulgy modern/post-modern architecture. Nu Labour's chaging of the cirriculum is right of Orwell's 1984: "he who controls the past controls the future, and he who controls the present controls the past". I hope when Cameron wins he tries to reverse a decade of Nu Labour's deliberate policy of destroying culture and traditions of the UK. But I am not getting my hopes up.

British kids will read “Heather Had 2 Moms” instead of Jane Eyre.

I’m with Jug Ears on this one. And we can restore traditional US history teaching here in the US while we’re at it.

Who needs Bronte when we have Mike Moore?

England is about one year ahead of our own self destruction.

He is right and the sad part is that this is happening in America too.

They are not teaching history and geography to the extent they should and it is disgusting .

Fact is that if they do teach factual history then kids will know the sacrifices of men and women in the past and what made the UK and America great.
They will not teach reconstruction after the war knowing southern kids will be unhappy at how their ancestors were treated.

In the UK they now teach how the British empire was all bad when it was not.

As an historian I find the lack of history in this country and England appalling.

Even these so called self educated types and elitists who think they know it all have no clue about history or geography and this needs to change

HRH is correct in this instance. Do not read more into this laudatory recommendation than: file this under “Even a blind squirrel gets the occasional nut.”

They haven’t been teaching real history in most American public schools since the 1950s, or maybe earlier. They’ve been teaching Social Studies. And even that has been going downhill.

American history consists of constant repetitions of how we screwed the Native Americans. Ancient, medieval, and Renaissance history are virtually nonexistent. Maybe a bit on the Inuits.

And most of the books they read are junk.

Your comment reminds me of one of the funniest lines I’ve ever read in literature. I don’t know who said it, but an author wrote, “Prince Charles, afflicted like the rest of the Windsors with terminal chinlessness . . .”

The desire to teach history better than the public schools is what was my first motivation to homeschool my daughter.

The STEALING of this nations children’s heritage from them is DESCPICABLE!!! More people need to be angry about this.

What is even sadder is that there are plenty of people who HATED history, and therefore, dismiss this whole issue as, not important. ARGH!

Maybe he can be reconciled to this deletion if they create a new "history of McDonalds" or "Islamic attire and culture" class.
