The "Heroic" Blue Dog Myth
self | 11/7/09 | LS

Posted on 11/08/2009 5:26:16 AM PST by LS

A new myth has arisen in the wake of last night's vote that a handful of "blue dog" Democrats from red districts were really in a position to stop Obamacare.

More than TWO MONTHS ago, I wrote a piece here called "What if they don't care?" and reposted here as "Grim Thought" (http://www.patriotshistoryusa.com/blog/grim-thought/)

Sadly, I was right. They didn't care. The entire choreography from August until last night was based on two tactical approaches: 1) "soften" the language just enough to get it by the public (NOT some "blue dogs") so that it did not appear as horrible as it is. This was 100% successful, as the AMA and AARPies all came on board; and 2) figure out which of the blue dogs would have to eat the bullet. It was only a numbers game. There were about 40-45 in really endangered positions, and thus at worst, only 5-10 would really have to be bribed or cajoled.

The final count was four, plus one idiot Republican (you can always find at least one fool on our side). The past two months have been about these two tactical maneuvers, and the last week was about figuring out which of some 45 endangered "blue dogs" would fall on their sword.

NONE of them are "heroes," because those who "voted against" Obamacare were merely released by Pelosi to do so---but they ALL voted for Pelosi and the Dem leadership to do what they did. In my eyes, they are no different than the Nationalist Party in Germany in 1932, which did not "vote" for Hitler, but didn't oppose him.

As for the five? They have been promised an all-out Dem blitz in the next election, and should they lose their seats, they have been promised gubment jobs in the administration. To quote Abe Karitz in the film "Tucker: The Man and His Dream," "You never had a chance."

Who believed it to begin with?

All kinds of arms were twisted, all kinds of corrupt bribes were offered. Each man and woman had his price at the end of the day. They and their souls are going to have to live with this decision...AND its aftermath.

Who believed it??? Look at all the replies to my post back in August. "Oh, these Dems want to get relected." "Oh, nothing is more important to a politician than his seat." There must have been 50 Freepers who insisted that the blue dogs would "never go along with this" because it would mean a "Republican landslide." Please, check out the thread, "What if They Don't Care?" and look at the responses.

You were right, LS. Personally, I think the whole scheme was a dog-and-pony show and that they already had the bulk of the blue dogs on-board months ago and that Peloser and her commie cronies allowed a WWF-style pretend fight to take place to make the blue dogs’ constituents think they were really out their fighting it.

I fear that the wild card up their sleeve is to ram amnesty through in early 2010 just as they did the socialized medicine bill (which is what it is, let’s not allow them to control the language).

Once amnesty is through, the “community organizers” can work with the census workers to get them all registered to vote.

The dems in power no longer have to worry about backlash from the independent and moderates and conservative democrats who oppose this socialism.

The truly frightening news is that, if this comes to pass, we will have to talk about “saving America” in terms of generations, not election cycles.

Everything is in place in this country for a hostile takeover from within.

You’re exactly right. Every one of them in my state voted for this and up until the very last second still said they were “undecided”. They weren’t undecided. None represent my district, but I will work vigorously and donate as much as I can to their defeat.

Pelosi's "Blue Dogs"

When they're at home, they's good ol boy, gun-totin', church-goin', pro-lifin' "Consoivatives". When they get to Washington, they become latte'-sippin', vin-drinking-with-the-pinkie-stuck-out, flag-burning, pot-smoking, Christian-mocking leftists.

If we want representatives with integrity, we need to be voters with integrity...

Until we, as an electorate, grow up and vote Principle, instead of Label, this is the kind of governance we can expect...

We always get the government we deserve...

This “fool the rubes” smoke and mirors charade is practiced by GOP and DEM alike. And why not? It works!

I never believed this "Blue Dog" BS even back when they talked about it in the mid 1990s. This label just describes a group of people able to successfully lie to enough idiot voters to convince them that they are conservative just in the hopes of getting elected.

The fact that it works is more of a reflection of the idiocy of the average US voter than it is on the "duplicity" of the members of this group.

I'll bet the same people who though that the flaming liberal "Blue Dogs" were going to "save" us also believed in the PUMAs, right?

Tell that to the 100% (less one) of the GOP who voted against this. Nope, HUGE difference in the parties, as you are about to learn.

You got that right. Amnesty is up next, perhaps slid in even ahead of cap and tax.

I totally agree with you about this “blue dog” myth. They are found out this time around. In fact, I would say that the “blue dogs” are worse than the leftist, liberal Dems because they are acting like Republicans with the Dem label but when tough votes are needed for the Dems, they vote Democrat.

Yep. Ah, the mysterious pumas-—never seen in daylight on a November election day.

That isn't the root of the problem. We have far too many useless people in this country who are dependent on the government for everything, and they vote accordingly.

I remember seeing opinion polls stating that 47% of people fully support nationalizing health care. The fact that the percentage is that high is really scary.

Paige,

I said the same thing yesterday on another FR post. Ain’t no such animal as a Blue Dog. They are libs who talk tough to get elected and then it’s business as usual.

Never believed in the blue dog theory.

They weren’t undecided.

If they were truly "undecided" they are too stupid to make smart decisions because there is no gray area in the healthcare debate---either you're for socialized medicine or you're not.

Of course, the "undecided" ones are positive that they don't want it for themselves--no indecision there!

I didn't say they parties were the same in every respect, only that both parties are adept at "fool the rubes."

And both parties have been growing the federal government.

They’re only Blue when they’re home in front of the constituents. When they’re in Washington, they’re “citizens of the world.”
