After two days of investigation into the mass shooting at Fort Hood, investigators have tentatively concluded that the attack was not part of a terrorist plot.
Rather, they have come to believe that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused in the shootings, acted out under a welter of emotional, ideological and religious pressures, according to interviews with federal officials who have been briefed on the inquiry.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that Major Hasan believed he was carrying out an extremist’s suicide mission.
But the investigators, working with behavioral experts, suggested that he may have long suffered from emotional problems that were exacerbated by the tensions of his work with veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who returned home with serious psychiatric problems.
They said his counseling activities with the veterans appear to have further fueled his anger and hardened his increasingly militant views at the same time that he seemed to move toward more extreme religious beliefs — all of which boiled over as he faced being shipped overseas, an assignment he bitterly opposed.
Investigators have gleaned most of their findings from Major Hasan’s computer use and from interviews with his family members, co-workers and neighbors. One significant investigative thrust has involved determining whether Major Hasan had contact with extremists who preyed on his increasingly angry and outspoken opposition to American policies in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But so far, investigators have unearthed no evidence that he was directed or steered into violence or ever traveled overseas to meet with extremist groups, as defendants in other recent terrorism cases are accused of doing, the officials said.
The officials emphasized that their findings were preliminary, and that the investigation was fluid. New information could alter their perceptions of Major Hasan’s motives.

Suppose Hasan was a Muslim extremist acting alone -- does that make his 13 victims any less dead? It shows that a single terrorist can do immense damage. In a sane country we'd ask if Muslims ought to be in the military (and then rethink immigration policies). Since we are too enlightened to do that, we should at least take pro-Muslim-extremist statements by soldiers as immediate grounds for discharge. Hasan gave ample warning.

This was a case of ritualistic genocide, not just murder.There is a significant difference.
God defeated Allah at Fort Hood.He also did not let Hasan die to gain a seat next to his perverted god.
Political Correctness is used to keep America blind to what actually goes on inside a Mujihads heart mind. The left has worked so hard at making sure that America does not see its war against Terror as a religious war, when in fact the enemy sees it as EXACTLY that. A religious war.
This is , as Bush said, a war against evil. And evil came to Fort Hood in the form of a jihadi who was in fact possessed by Allah.For me this incident has shades of the movie “Exorcist.”
And Good has triumphed, even though so many innocents died.

Yes, unless they uncover that he was some kind of plant and this was the plan all along, then you are correct that HE plotted and carried out this act of terrorism. HE was the terrorist. What has happened to people that they would gloss over his own actions and statements as to what was motivating him??
It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t have to be a plot. One man is sufficient to cause lots of death and mayhem, as we have seen. The Times is a bunch of dissembling fools.

As Bill Clinton might say, it depends what you mean by “plot.” If you mean was he acting on orders from Osama bin Ladin, who telephoned him from a cave in Waziristan, then probably not.
But if you mean he had connections with other Muslim extremists at his Virginia mosque, and if you mean that he plotted or planned this attack carefully ahead of time, and if you mean that he cold bloodedly murdered a dozen people because he considered them to be enemies of Islam, then, yes, sorry, he is a terrorist plotter.
Frankly, stuff like this makes me wish that the next Muslim terrorist would go after the offices of the NY Times.

Shakin’ my head I scroll up and down, and down and up the front page at FRee Republic, and I see article after article of interest about Hasan, and clue after clue about who, and what the bastard is.

That is a really good question. Another good question would be, why did they stop? Or better yet, who made them stop. Who can stop the FBI. Possibly the Attorney General. Isn't the Attorney General the guy who's law firm defends the prisoners at Gitmo.
Islam is a terrorist plot. From its very beginning, Islam has been a terrorist plot to kill, steal, destroy, and spread like the disease it has always been.
The Times should read the Telegraph story showing terrorist Hasan had the same radical imam as 3 of the 9/11 hijackers.
The Times would say that was just a coincidence.
I have to believe that Joe and Jane America are outraged at this Ft. Hood terrorist attack and are privately thinking...what if this happens next at my office, or kids’ school, or the stadium, etc.
Some guest on Fox was saying that even though the FBI was investigating him, the military kept him on board because 1) they wanted to be paid back for all the money invested in his education and 2) there is SO much PTSD running rampant that they need all the shrinks they can get.

It is beyond question that Hasan is an Islamic terrorist. The only question is whether he is an active AQ agent or merely a fellow traveler.
At the end of the article, they mention the FBI pulled a bag of shredded docs out of the dumpster. I think I read a while back that somebody had a computer program that could scan images of shreddings and put them back together. Somebody was offering to reconstruct cross-cut shredder output for $10K a cubic foot. Strip-cut shreddings are much easier. During the Iranian hostage crisis, the hostage guards passed the time putting the embassy's shredded docs back together.
I fear the only way to truly be labeled a “terrorist” by this administration is to attack a protected minority group.
From the minute, the very minute, that this guy’s name was released there was a full court press to find any motive other than Islamic terrorism. I even heard a shrink on CNN (I know, I know, why was I watching it. But still..) suggesting that this guy wanted to do an office shooting because he was persecuted, and latched on to radical Islam, but only as an excuse.
In fact, just a couple hours after the shooting, before we even knew the name, the Feds were saying this didn’t appear to be a terrorist act. At the time, I thought that was amazingly quick, but now it makes sense. The Obama administration, who likely knew the identity of the shooter within minutes of his being gunned down, and his likely religon, began the spin machine....start repeating that this wasn’t terrorism.
Now I am curious to see what happens within the military. How many average soldiers will continue to trust Muslim soldiers in their units, especially in deployed or deploying units? Will there be a rise in “accidents” happening to Muslim soldiers in our military?
Thank goodness! No terrorism! No Muslim went in and shot up a room full of people for his god. Whew!! What a relief!! Thank you, New York Times!

With their past track records, expect the military to start construction on the new Fort Hood Mosque tomorrow morning. Exactly one year later, the FBI and CAIR can co-host the Grand Opening and smile broadly when the Muslim-in-Chief makes a 'surprise' visit dedicating the now completed mosque to all muslims in the military.

Who got him the gun? No one is reporting, but it sounds like a Scorpion in 5.7 MM, not exactly a weapon available over at Louie's Gun Shop.
This part of jihad is just another aspect of a larger-scale attack like 7-11. It is the equivalent of a suicide bomber in a crowded marketplace. Hassan had all the religious , material, and logistical support backup that any other suicide jihadist would have.

Except for that “inconvenient “Muslim dressed” visitor he had earlier in the week. Who no one at his apartment building had seen before and who only stayed a few minutes. If he turns out to be tied in, then it becomes, at minimum, a terrorist conspiracy.
They've had Muslim services at one of the base chapels ever since I've been here. They also have Jewish services in another chapel. They even have a bunch of Wiccans who meet in a scout camp on post.
The Army's anti-gun policy made it that much more difficult for Good to triumph.
