KILLEEN, Tex. The police officer who brought down a gunman after he went on a shooting rampage at the Fort Hood Army base here was on the way to have her car repaired when she responded to a police radio report of gunfire at a center where soldiers are processed before being sent overseas, the authorities said Friday.
As she pulled up to the center, the officer, Sgt. Kimberly Denise Munley, spotted the gunman, later identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, brandishing a pistol and chasing a wounded soldier outside the building, said Chuck Medley, the director of emergency services at the base.
Sergeant Munley a woman with a fierce love of hunting, surfing and other outdoor sports bolted from her car, yanked her pistol out and shot at Major Hasan. He turned on her and began to fire. She ran toward him, continuing to fire, and both she and Major Hasan went down with several bullet wounds, Mr. Medley said.
Whether Sergeant Munley was solely responsible for taking down Major Hasan or whether he was also hit by gunfire from her partner is unclear, but she was the first to fire at him, the authorities said.
Sergeant Munley, 34, is an expert in firearms and a member of the SWAT team for the civilian police department on the base, officials said.
Mr. Medley said she had received specific training in a tactic called active shooter protocol, which was intended for this kind of situation.
Shes absolutely a hero, he said. She had the training; she knew what to do. And she had the courage to do it by doing it she saved countless peoples lives.
The original 911 call came in at 1:23 p.m., and five minutes later Sergeant Munley had already shot ...

Kudos to Sgt. Kimberly Denise Munley.
Anyone know why it took well over 5 minutes for someone to shoot at the terrorist, on the largest Army base in the world? And then to be stopped by an off duty female civilian?
I’m surprised the Slimes covered this aspect of the massacre. I’m surprised they are implying that Munley is a hero. After all, she (and maybe also her partner) shot a MUSLIM. And that’s the most coveted of politically correct groups in the WORLD.
I wonder if the writer will keep his job.
She didn’t vote “present.”
Hey...Hassan..
GOT TAKEN DOWN BY AN ARMED AMERICAN WOMAN!!!
(no Hijab needed!)
You want to start a 2A thread, then do it and stop crapping all over anything that will make people feel a little good abour this horrific situation.
Generally, there are not loaded weapons on base except for those of the guards who are normally at the gates.
If I were wealthy, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to bear the expense of plastering Sgt. Munley’s photo in uniform and story on every wall surface in the Muslim world.
Not just a ROP member but one with mental problems and pre-post traumatic stress disorder. She should have said Allahu Akbar to distract him then sit down and pray with him until trained politically correct forces could study the situation in a sensitive and nuanced manner.
Use your head dude. Would the NYT get so excited, as they did, if a white male took out this creep?
Exactly ...see post #8.
We have USA wimmins with brass balls!
Bet that was a surprise to Hassan.
Are you saying Female cops are inferior? jerk.
Perhaps you aren't familiar with these Military installations, their make-up and purpose.
Unlike a "Fort" or Camp being used as an operational base in a war zone or nearby areas for staging, these posts are small cities for troops and their families to train and live normal lives.
While there is security at the perimeter, the fort itself is housing, schools, stores, classrooms, hospitals and more remote trainig areas.
It hasn't been necessary to be under-arms except in paymaster duties and similar functions liable to interferance.
Like most of use, when our military is not deployed, it doesn't "carry" as a matter of course when at the classroom, takinng the kids to ball practice or filling out paperwork at the "main office".
It took five minutes for this very brave woman to respond.
As the saying goes....”When seconds counts, help is minutes away.”
In this situation, for many people the “what ifs” in regards to your observation are not important or worth bringing up.
They wrote a very comprehensive article - describing her, naming her closest relatives and her current and intended homes. In simpler days it would be considered a good write-up. In today’s world -——
Any agenda in being so thorough????
No I am not saying female cops are inferior. I've seen Sigorney Weaver and Angeline Jolie many times kill all the bad guys and save the country and the planet.
Let us hope this same headline can be used about Michelle Bachmann at the end of the day.
“Any agenda in being so thorough?”
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Consider that as a ‘group’ the M World was ‘looking’ for S. Rasheed (sp) for writing a book, condemned a newspaper and cartoonist for a cartoon etc...
Makes it easier to find if the ‘reports’ list the names and addresses of the people involved (only on the good guy side) by the way, the perps etal have rights, the law abiding apparently not when it comes to privacy...
We sure made a wrong turn somewhere on this journey....
“Anyone know why it took well over 5 minutes for someone to shoot at the terrorist, on the largest Army base in the world? And then to be stopped by an off duty female civilian?”
I know the answer: Because normal law-abiding citizens aren’t allowed to carry on Federal installations.
I guess we have to keep Sgt Munley and her family in our prayers now. That is about our only recourse.
In this war without fronts, It looks like that policy will deservedly be under review.
I’ve read earlier reports that she was there in 3 minutes. Is it an issue with you that it was a female officer?
Good point. The Slimes targeting her for retribution?
I wouldn’t doubt it. Like I said, I’m VERY skeptical that ANYONE in the Slimes, including the Faux “Conservative” David Brooks, thinks that shooting a homicidal muzzie is a good thing.
Maybe she should change her “intended homes” to something the Slimes didn’t “report” on.
Wow. Hat is off, eyes blurry.
Excellent question. I’d like to know that myself.
And today we break ground on the national 9/11 mosque in Shanksville PA.
Oh no—hope u Christians and Jews will be ok.
Gee McGavin you woke up on the wrong side of bed, I myself thought it was odd that no one else was able to get off a shot at the perp after all it is a military base.
Wow! What a gal!
Does anyone know what sort of weapon was used by Maj. Hasan? Also, how did he get it onto the base? If it was there to begin with, did he have to sign it out, as you had to do? When signing a weapon out, is it checked by whomever to see if it is loaded or not? Maybe these sort of rules don’t apply to an officer versus an enlisted man? I just don’t know myself. Any thoughts on your part?
He used two guns purchased legally by himself.
For Jihad purposes.
When ever I signed out my issued weapon or my own personal sidearm, it was never issued loaded. No problem to get it on base though as he could have easily had them in his personal vehicle or on his person. Officers have to keep their weapons in the same arms room everyone else does if they live in the barracks or officer quarters. Or least at the posts I served (Ft. Sill, Ft. Bliss, Camp Colbern (ROK)). I know that Maj. Hasan *spit*, used pistols. What kind or caliber, I do not know. Probably Baretta 92s. The reason I say Baretta 92s is because unless he was a frequent shooter, those are the pistols he would be most familiar with due to his military training and qualification.
From the NYT?
*am opening front door to see the spectacle of pigs flying*
Just saw her boss on Fox. Apparently she was shot almost immedeately upon arriving. She engaged the shooter even though she was shot. Was struck again. Stayed in the fight, WAS STRUCK ONCE MORE, and finally put the shooter down. I can’t give this woman enough props for her courage.
I cannot say how much I admire this lady. She jumped forward in the face of possible death and rendered the shooter incapable of continuing his actions.
I hope the various law enforcement associations recognize her with their highest awards for bravery.
I would expect der leader to do so too but he and Holder will be debating why she did not tell him to stop and read him his rights before shooting him.
I only wish she had a 12 gauge rather than the 9mm.
Vince
And I’ll bet she’ll say she was just-doing-her-job. ;)
At 5-foot-4, no wonder the call her “Mighty Mouse.”
When her boss first went to see her in the emergency room, her first words to ask about the wounded. Classy, classy gal.
“Most places are reporting 3 minutes not 5 to kill the terrorist. Where do you get the off duty?”
Early reports were over 5 minutes, later it was 4 minutes, now it is under 3 minutes, pretty soon this woman will be flying to the rescue. Remember Jessica Lynch the hero from the Army, that story sold lots of newspapers.
I also read somewhere that the female cop was taking her car to the repair shop and returned to the base to kill the bad guy.
I also have a S&W, Mossberg and Rock River AR for my security.
I cannot imagine how Hassan was able to fire 100 rounds, wound or kill 46 individuals, reload 4 or 5 times, within 5 minutes. I don’t believe I could do it, even with stationary targets.
Exactly. And I was going to peg her as a tough Texan belle, but found her to be from North Carolina. Cool.
“She developed a love of shooting as a young girl, her grandmother Monirie Metz said. She killed her first deer when she was 11 on a hunting trip with her grandfather.”
Like Mark Twain said “ If you don't read the papers you are uninformed and if you do read them you are misinformed.”
We had enough live nukes to blow up the whole f**king world, though, so we weren't completely unarmed.
During the run up to Desert Storm, our county hospital hosted dozens of military MD’s as we could guarantee them lots of opportunities to update their skills.
I hope she recovers from her wounds quickly.
As is so often the case, it took a gun to stop a gun. When all of us have become targets, then all of us are soldiers.
Nicknamed ‘Mighty Mouse’.
Makes michele Obama look puny, eh?
