Fort Hood shooting: Maj Nidal Malik Hasan could be executed
The Telegraph ^ | 11/7/09 | Tom Leonard

Posted on 11/07/2009 12:09:25 AM PST by malkee

Maj Nidal Malik Hasan could become the first person to be sentenced to death by a military court in almost 50 years.

The US Armed Forces has a death penalty – lethal injection – but there have been no executions since 1961 when an army private, John Bennett, was hanged for rape and attempted murder.

The military can also impose a sentence of life imprisonment without parole and there are nine men on its death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

A "convening authority", a high-ranking officer, will decide whether the government will seek the death penalty. If so, it has to be resolved by trial before a panel of servicemen and women.

The death sentence can be imposed only if the panel unanimously agrees on four points. Some are similar to those on civilian juries but they also include the specifically military consideration of whether the offence was committed to avoid hazardous duty or knowingly endanger a mission.

I hope so. However you can count on Obama’s Department of Injustice trying to prevent that.

OK, you're seeing it here first.

I've actually butted heads here and elsewhere because I am against the death penalty. We won't rehash that issue now.

This just might be my road to Damascus moment, though.

I didn’t know the military had gone to lethal injection. I assumed (never a good thing, I guess) that they still used the firing squad.

I have opposed the death penalty in most instances; the attorney enrichment program and lynch-mob mentalities of some humans are the main reasons.

When a life is at stake, what is wrong with sodium pentathol controlled questioning? At some point, justice and truth has to win out over lawyers, liars and litigation.

Bring back the firing squad!

Now in the Armed Forces, we were always cautioned about not volunteering for anything. I would guess that there would be 99.9% volunteers (the remaining .1% would be the muzzies in uniform).

Now, though, since the perp is paralized, they would need to make a run to LOWES to purchase a nailgun so they could fasten the dude to the wall, just sayin'.

Hanging is what Washington did to traitors....if it’s good enough for General Washington, it works for me! But if we must go to firing squads, would they take a civilian who is a sharp shooter? I’ll volunteer!

We are told Hasan had no options. That’s NOT true...

He did have the option of

1. saying
“I don’t believe in the wars, so I refuse to go overseas.”

2. taking
the consequences just as other people who refused to serve have taken them

He could have made the news, without killing people.

It should read: “Will be executed!” And it should be before a firing squad!

He chose the way others died, without regard to his victims families, children, wives, parents etc., so he chose his own way to die!

The MSM has already made a martyr and a victim out of him. He was a victim of our meanie military and brainwashed to fight, not nurtured or listened to, was forced to go fight against his will, had listened to so many sad cases from soldiers he snapped, it wasn’t his fault it was Bush's for starting a war he didn't want, etc,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,!

The pathetic part is, the public is buying it! I say, shoot this bastard at the soonest sunset by a 20 gun firing squad! Forget all the media hype and uber-analysis.

I, too, have weakened in my stance supporting the death penalty.

I believe it should be reserved for certain capitol crimes in which there is no doubt the accused/convicted individual did the grisly deed, such as at Fort Hood.

Execution gives him the easy way out, and he can be called a martyr for islam. Better to let him live out his days paralyzed, being tended by nurses (most of them female I hope), and constantly reminded that a woman took him down.

Sometimes, living is more terrible than dying.

He's the victim. And the politically correct US military is NOT going to sentence an unrepentant jihadist to death. Might damage our "street cred" with the Muslim World - our image there is more important. A few dead Americans be damned!

Now would be a good time to change his "drip", as he ain't moving and is guilty as Hell, regardless of what our useless POTUS, Zer0, has to say. Don't jump to conclusions reminds me of that stupid game in "Office Space". Just do it!

Given his bachelorhood status, I'm not sure if he's interested in the 72 virgins awaiting him in "Rag Head Heaven" or not.

I heard a cutie (a/k/a: groaner alert) yesterday: Do you know where whores go to prepare themselves to receive this blown up Islamic fools in heaven; answer: The Virgin Islands. Told you!

Since he is a devout Muslim and tried to kill as many "Infidels" as he possibly could, then following that warped line of thought, he would want to be killed in the process. This would make him a martyr in his cult/religion, giving him instant access to his 72 virgins and great respect among other Muslim extremists. Dying in retribution for his act would achieve the same results.

Why give him what he wants? Why not sentence him to life with no possibility of parole, in a solitary cell where he has no contact with any outside materials or other prisoners?

Send a message to the Muslim world and any others in our military who might be now thinking about 'going out in a blaze of glory' to instantly reach their 72 virgins.

Make him wait a long, long time. Keep him healthy to extend his solitary life as long as possible.

In other words, sentence him to his own personal Hell on Earth.

It would be worth the monetary expense.

I'm kind of the same way -- I'm against the electric chair.

It's greener that way.

Either that or pray that he dies on his own. Executing this monster, although he deserves it, will make a hero out of him to other home grown Jihadis. They will use his execution as call to arms and do more damage here at home.

In New Mexico, sometime in the 80’s, the Governor Toney Anaya (d) suspended the death penalty on all on death row.

Later, three former death row inmates escaped and killed folks in AZ and CA.

The death penalty is a crime stopper for those who are put to death.

And there is an equal or greater chance that obama will pardon him and quitely slip him out of the Country. If he dis that, who ould know? The media damn sure would not report it and his disciples would that he is being held in seclusion. For his protection.

It is according to which way the political winds blow for obama.

At the present , he is kissing up to the public via faking concern for the troops to regain his composure for the ass kicking he took on eletion day.

But what will the future hold? Will his islamic masters pressure him? Or will they allow nature to take its course?

If they won't give it to Texas....

Ron White on the Death Penalty

I’m from Texas. In Texas we have the death penalty. And we USE it.

That’s right, if you come to Texas and kill somebody, we will kill you back. That’s our policy.

They’re trying to pass a bill right now through the Texas Legislature that will speed up the process of execution in heinous crimes where there’s more than three credible eye witnesses. If more than three people saw you do what you did, you don’t sit on death row for 15 years, Jack, you go straight to the front of the line.

Other states are trying to abolish the death penalty … my state’s puttin’ in an express lane.
