First, let me say that I have hated the media for some time now, but today was a new low. I was driving through Des Moines this afternoon, and heard an NPR story on the Ft Hood shooting. It started out surprisingly balanced - a little too much "one the one hand, on the other hand," but better than I expected from NPR. Something along the lines of, (paraphrasing, obviously) "this event may have happened because the shooter was stressed out from counseling PTSD soldiers, or it may be because he's a muslim." Then they played a clip of Gen Cone on CBS, stating that some Soldiers reported that the shooter said "allahu ackbar" before or during the attack. Then it got interesting.
First, the reporter (I wish I had caught his name) had to explain that "allahu ackbar" means god is greater, and it's a phrase often uttered by terrorists as they execute their attacks. Then he said (and I quote), "But did the Soldiers really hear that?" I honestly didn't hear any more of the report, because I was screaming at the radio at the top of my lungs. I almost put my fist through my dashboard. That was four hours ago, and I'm still mad about it.
I recently got back from a year in Afghanistan. When I first got there, Gen Cone was the Commanding General of CSTC-A, my boss several echelons up. I mention this because I know he has done his time over there, and he knows this enemy. He understands the significance of the phrase "allahu ackbar." It's a pretty safe assumption that the majority of Soldiers in that readiness center have already deployed in support of the GWOT, so they would also understand the significance of that phrase. It's a very distinctive, unforgettable sound, much like incoming rounds. For this pansy-ass, whiny-voiced reporter to question the on-scene accounts of these Warriors just because it didn't fit his predetermined template really pissed me off. Every one of the people who were targeted in this attack have sworn an oath to protect the Constitution, including the First Amendment, which protects the rights of this idiot to question them in such a condescending manner. But I guess he's just too intelligent to understand that.
OK, I'm done ranting.
These media elites are despicable.
Lamh Foistenach Abu!
I have stopped listening to all radio and watch all TV. Even Fox and the conservative talk shows are irritating in what they consistently choose to ignore.
I am tired. Too many times I have wanted to put my fist through the radio.
You have no one to blame but yourself for listening to NPR. I know Iowa is a tough place to find something to listen to, but clog dancing on the radio is better than NPR!
So I’m not the only one driven to road rage by these pinheads. If you can’t do, teach, if you can’t teach, report the news.
Your not alone, I can’t even watch the NFL anymore the commentators are all biased, put a fork in me I am done. Thank God for Talk Radio.
I have to agree with you. The lengths to which the media will go to avoid talking about the man’s religious beliefs and how they might have led to these murders is appalling. There’s something wrong if people are so compelled to be in denial about the reality of the thing.
Okay if other Americans choose to be comatose, but I choose not to be.
Mike Miklawceshikiyeeey, was the worst last nigt (or early this morning) on MSNBC (surprise!). His whole schpiel was that somehow, the Army was resposible for setting this guy off.
If you cant do, teach, if you cant teach, report the news.
But if you do report the news, never go on jepordy and prove what we already know...you can’t learn!
They will forget his online postings. His discipline for preaching Islam to his patients. His reported words to the effect that infidels need beheading.
“Compassion Fatigue” will become the accepted reason for the most uncompassionate act ever on a US military base.
Probably the most insulting thing they could do, sort of like turning a 9-11 memorial site into a Crescent.
I used to think of the media as dogs. Now I think they are more like what I can find on the bottom of my shoe after I walk my dog.
Obviously the spin talking points have been issued to the MSN by Axelrod from the heady precincts of the White House.
We need to change the language. I laugh about all the descriptions of this incident.
Words are used like shootings , killings , ( couched in terms as if the victims could shoot back.)
This happened at a med facility where there was a long cue for flu shots and other medical processing. The perpetrator calmly got to his feet , reached into his jacket, drew his 5.7 mm FN pistol and calmly started walking down the rows of people , pointing his weapon and shooting them calmly, point blank, in cold blood.
This was not shootings This was not killings. This was genocidal execution. These human beings were dispatched as if they were animals. One woman was 6 months pregnant.
TIME TO TELL THE TRUTH. GENOCIDAL EXECUTION is what this was.
The same sort that happened in Kenya , courtesy of Obamas tinkering there, in 2007.
OBAMAS FAULT!!!!!!!
THIS WAS AN ACT OF RELIGIOUS GENOCIDE.
THIS WAS A WAR CRIME.
I don’t listen to the media any more. I don’t watch their stupid television shows. I did listen to the NPR story for a few minutes on my way home from work this evening. I made up my mind that I’d listen to it to hear how they were spinning the Ft. Hood Massacre. Two minutes was all I could take; they telling us how this was probably caused by stress and isolation. Incidents like this show the media for what they have become, and what they have become is the reason I haven’t watched them in 20 years.
The media is not America, and America is not the media. The media consists of people who believe themselves to be the elite of the world. In their minds, they transcent international borders and cultures. They are their own alpha and omega.
They spend most of their time preening for each other. If you want to waste your time watching, knock yourself out.
Most Americans are not fooled for a minute.
The shooter was killed at the scene.
The shooter who was killed was one of three shooters.
The shooter is a Muslim convert, not a born Muslim, and anyway his being a Muslim is irrelevant.
See, only the crack journalists of the “mainstream” newsrooms are qualified to investigate and report the news. Only they can be trusted to get it right. The internet is filled with nothing but rumor-mongers and fabricators. (cough)
By the way, can you imagine if the shooter had handed out Bibles the morning of the massacre?
I listen to npr and I’ve noticed they are moving to the center because Obama is something of a smelly fish—donations are plunging with Obama’s poll numbers.
Welcome to the club.
So that’s how you spell his name.;-)
And Free Republic. I swear it's the only thing that keeps me sane, and I'm dancing on a pinhead to begin with.
First - thanks for your service.
Second - you can rant any time you want.
Third - The Propaganda wing of the Communists/Marxists/Jihadists party IS NPR - MSNBC - NBC - CNN - ABC - CBS - LA Times / Washington Post / NY Times and sometimes even Fox (Shep Smith, to name one).
Therefore we must EXPECT these slimes to side with every anti-American, anti-truth, anti-freedom, anti-military, anti-”war” on our enemies, sentiment out there.
THEIR JOB IS TO DISCOURAGE OUR HEROES IN THE MILITARY.
They delight in that “work”.
They get “paid” very well for doing it by being invited by the WH or other Demonrats for “insider” stories.
How do you fight it?
NEVER LISTEN TO THE SLIMES - EVER.
We have the alternative press right here on FR.
No need to give the slimes one second of our attention.
Not sure, but it has few vowels. I should be use to this, me ex was Polish. I think it’s prounced MIK-la-SHEV-ski, but whatever it was he was absolutely despicable.
The way I always heard it was:
"If you cant do, teach. If you cant teach, teach gym. If you're not coordinated enough to do a jumping jack, report the news."
When I calmed down, I broke out the iPod. No more radio the rest of the trip.
No one will probably believe me..
But I saw Anderson Cooper on CNN tonight.
They reported every single fact I saw reported today on FR.
Which means they reported a whole lot that other news sources have not. Such as the fact that he gave a presentation to his peers in psychiatry justifying suicide bombing with the Koran. They interviewed live the most relevant people to the story. They even did great original reporting, interviewing muslims who openly praise the murders.
And not one sop to political correctness that I saw.
10/10.
If this idiot had been wearing an I Kill Unbelievers 4 the Glory of Allah t-shirt, they'd still be going, "Whuh-whuh-why did he do this?"
I like that.
They will forget his online postings. His discipline for preaching Islam to his patients. His reported words to the effect that infidels need beheading.
They'll try. I don't know if they can this time. I hope not.
Hadn’t heard that it was a line of targets for him. Something else to be left out of the “reporting,” I guess.
The media will try to pin this on Bush/Cheney/Halliburton or anyone else. They are in full “Protect Obama” mode. There is no way they can acknowledge a terrorist attack on US soil while obama is president. Especially since the FBI has known about this muzzie dirt bag for 6 months. The spin machines are in turbo mode.
Liberal Projection.. It’s them who hear things that aren’t there!
If you hear cursing and screaming coming from homes in your neighborhood.. It’s not crazy people.. It’s pissed-off Patriots yelling at their TVs and Radios!
The sympathy for Hasan is surreal.
I try not to let these turds affect my peace of mind, but the circumstances in the case of Ft. Hood require condemnation of these outrageous opinions on behalf of Hasan.
They’re no doubt attempting to shape and control the public’s reaction to the assassinations by diffusing the image of the perpetrator. Their arrogance is preceded only by their ignorance of the Country’s sense of justice, and its right to express dissatisfaction and anger.
I believe they are more concerned with the outrage over the assassinations than the assassination of a dozen soldiers.
We discontinued cable years ago and have no TV reception whatsoever.
However...This week we were traveling. My husband had CNN on briefly. That Dr. Phil going on about the Muslim terrorist’s mental health was just too much. I promptly turned off the TV.
My husband said, “How do we know that he was mental ill? If he was a terrorist he was being a perfectly rational warrior. Terrorism works!”
At first many would have been seated, the lines develope as a natural propensity for humans to seek cover.
Yup - it was a war crime, a hate crime, and an act of treason against our country’s armed forces and its military installation. Simple. Don’t need Dr Phil to figure out this muslim terrorist.
agreed, I never miss an hour or two a day on FR. Thanks for reminding me and others how important FR is!
The first reports I saw here in Oz (on tv) were mentioning that the shooter had been taunted because of his religion.
The more I heard the more it sounded like it was the victims fault this happened.
Don’t get me started on the taunting BS. There’s no way anybody would ever call a captain or major a “camel jockey” without serious career implications. And besides, since when does getting called a name justify mass murder?
Here's hoping they burn out a bearing.
Meanwhile, MSNBC, when they even bother to mention the terrorist attack at Ft. Hood, offer excuses for the terrorist and are fixated on the gun he used, repeatedly saying the murderer bought the gun “legally”.
Actually, MSNBC is devoting most of its airtime to pushing government health control and bashing anybody who opposes it. They really don’t give a shit about a terrorist murdering American soldiers.
Actually, I'm pretty sure most of them are excited about it.
"I think this guy, put together the ultimate terrorist activity to inflict the greatest harm on American soil, exactly because he was a psychiatrist, fully capable of understanding the way the human mind works, and fully understanding of the horrible effect it would have for years to come in the US military..."
The MSM is like everyone and everything else, they all have their own perspective.
That being said, I think some are covering this fairly. I was just watching ABC Nightline and they interviewed victims who reported the Shooter saying Allahu Akbar (or however you spell it) while he was shooting. They were not trying to hide this fact at all which is to their credit.
They are. I was up till 4 this morning and they, and he, were trying to make the army the reason for his massacre.
Did you see it?
Actually if you look at the little bios of those killed, most had not deployed, except for the pregnant one, who got that way on her R&R mid deployment leave, and was returning rather than deploying. Three were Old Men, mid 50s and one 62 y/o, heading down range, or in the last case, probably one of those doing the medical screening Several were medics, nurses, PAs, etc.
THE MEDIA IS (ARE) THE ENEMY.
Taunting? What a joke. I was in the military doctor for years and one of the hospitals I worked in was over 60% FMG’s (Foreign Medical Graduates) and no-one taunted anyone or spoke badly about anyone because of their race, country of origin, or religious beliefs. Now, when it came down to whether someone was a good doctor (knew how to practice good medicine) the worst we would get was to call them by their rank and not “Doctor”... like Major Burns on MASH. It was a unspoken rule of thumb, that when you referred to another doctor by their rank, e.g. “ please take this chart to Major Burns...” when you were talking to a tech or another practitioner, instead of saying, “take this chart to Dr. Burns...” this was designed to tell the recipient that they were not a good doctor. It was considered an insult, not unlike the way our elected officials in DC will show their disapproval of their colleagues in the House or Senate by overdoing it by singing their praises, and over-complmenting their enemies, when they are referring to them on the floor.
So, the fact that anyone would claim that this guy was taunted because of his religion or his ancestry, is just unbelievable. It would never happen in the military. I suspect that anyone who reports or claims this, obviously does not understand, nor wishes to get to the truth about why this terrorist did what he did. IMHO, it’s an attempt to whitewash and paint a prettier picture than the one that is staring us in the face. All evidence points to the fact that this terrorists actions were premeditated. Doctors are not issued weapons. Doctors don’t own weapons like the one this terrorist used. Doctors who “supposedly go postal and shoot everyone in site” don’t go screaming praises to their muslim god while they are murdering american soldiers, unless they are trying to create an atmosphere to incite terror in the minds of everyone around them. If this guy really did not want to go to a war zone (i.e. deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan) he could have done what many other military malcontents would have done, and just refused to go. He would have then charged with conduct unbecoming... court-martialed, then handled appropriately. Murdering American soldiers, screaming Allahu Akbar, does not enter into the equation.
The only way this guy gets a free ticket out of this mess, is to have the defense attorney successfully claim that this guy was a whack job from the start, i.e. they have to document that this guy was unstable, and truly unable to perform as a physician when he first presented himself as a military member, with evidence supporting a history not being able to deal with the stresses of everyday life, and that he was incapable of understanding how to deal with these stresses in any other way. They won’t be able to do this, simply because, it is not true. This guy showed that he was against the American military way of life, from his exclamations to others that he supported the radical islamic activities of suicide bombing, etc.
Unfortunately for all the families that were affected by this terrorists actions, this doctor should have been removed from the system at the first instance that this guy was spouting comments supporting radical islamic actions, whether they thought he meant it or not.
Now, journalists are supposed to investigate and present the news, but, come on, do a little work, once in a while, and don’t simply rely on the spoon fed lies that even a third grader can identify as lazy journalism.
AND if it is in writing, then his superiors knew full well what they had on their hands. But given this is now BamaKenedy’s military I am NOT expecting that trail to be found or released. BamaKennedy is the expert in hiding paper trails.
Agree. Our Military deserves better.
