An Army psychiatrist set to be shipped overseas opened fire at the Fort Hood Army post Thursday, authorities said, a rampage that killed 12 people and left 31 wounded in the worst mass shooting ever at a military base in the United States.
The gunman, first said to have been killed, was wounded but alive in a hospital under military guard, said Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood. He was shot four times, and was on a ventilator and unconscious, according to military officials. "I would say his death is not imminent," Cone said.
The man was identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a 39-year-old from Virginia.
President Barack Obama called the shooting at the Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening, "a horrific outburst of violence."
"It's difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas," the commander in chief said. "It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an Army base on American soil."
Soldiers rushed to treat their injured colleagues by ripping their uniforms into makeshift bandages. Officials have not ruled out the possibility that some casualties may have been victims of "friendly fire," shot by authorities amid the mayhem and confusion at the scene, said a senior U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss matters that were under investigation.
Hasan had transferred to Fort Hood in July from Walter Reed Medical Center, where he received a poor performance evaluation, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

The military has had PC shoved down it's throat.
No kidding about that PC. I've been in for over 30 years and it is getting harder and harder to reprimand someone for wrong doing. Promotions are handed out to everyone who can do the PT and finish their required schools. Then can be doing horrible jobs.
We saw one guy get promoted to E-7 and he had a hard time reading anything. He had no clue where he was on a road, if he did not see his "landmarks" to turn. That is NO joke. He got lost in a convoy.
I know this is about a TRAGIC event—but that definition REALLY makes me smile!

This Hasan has been a live one for a long time, even suggestiong that more Muslims should attack and kill us after the Arkansas recruiter was killed.
Hopefully he will get the same sentence that Akbar got...and hopefully, unlike Akbar, it will be carried out swiftly.
Maybe they can have a double execution, executed by firing squad with pig-blood soaked bullets, having them fall into a trench of pig entrails before being buried there. It’s what he deserves in his own mind...and it’s time we started playing with their minds, IMHO, just like that. It may save some life’s if they realize in their own minds that their Jihad will be foiled and they will not got to Heaven for their 72.

When my son was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, he was supposed to declare any weapons he had and he lived OFF post.
They are not allowed to have strong conviction in their own denominations or faiths, but are mandated to be able to minister in all.
Most chaplains are not as strong as they should be, but that is because the military doesn't allow them to be. Their private off base activities are also restrained in that they may do nothing that publicly supports one faith or denomination over another.
This is an ill advised attempt to ensure that ALL the troops are covered regardless of their religion, including Wiccans or Satanists..
This guy is CAIR’s nightmare. He is on tape the day of the murders in muslim clothes, American born muslim, shouted allah snackbar during the attack AND lived. His trial will shine a bright light on this treasonous 5th column.

Publicly this is quite true. This goes way back before 9/11 when political theater extended into internal policy, which is what killed 3,000 people. But this is what the surface conditions are. Down deep, removed from political constraints, the war is quite different. The mosques are, and have been, infiltrated. Even the the Imams are helping (if they are compliant, though this is definitely covert). This sort of secretive cooperation extends to those out on the prayer rugs. Arabic Muslims are viewed with great suspicion, by those that are not. Remember, there are different “flavors” of Islam. Not every variety has baby entrails drooping from their teeth. Suffice to say, there is often little love lost between Arab Muslims and their non-arab “brothers in faith”. Non-arab Muslims don’t want to be around these Arabic wackos anymore than you or I, but due to proximity they are terrified of what might happen to them if they cooperated out in the open.
There are intrafaith rivalries that are capitalized on by both the locals and the feds. These aren’t “played up” in public, but they tend to be quite productive. I was always of the opinion that a Shia will kill a Sunni quicker than they’ll take out an infidel as they tend to view each other as apostates. Sadly this is small comfort to the dead and wounded in TX. :-(

I understand the distinction, but a pyschiatrist has to know how it all works before they can prescribe, or put a patient further up the system.

Those are not very good signs. When there are too many officers around, and not enough discipline, it means a military organisation is getting flabby.
Sure looks like there are a lot of questions that still remain unanswered. In due fairness to the military police and perhaps civilian police authorities, I guess it will take some time before all the details come out.
