Under pressure from conservative forces within her own party, Dede Scozzafava, the regular Republican nominee in the interim House race for New York's 23d District, suddenly withdrew from the race today.
Though endorsed by the Republican National Committee and big GOP establishment names like ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Scozzafava had fallen to third place in polls of the upstate longtime Republican district next to the Canadian border.
Her retreat came in the face of a vigorous campaign by Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who was backed by Sarah Palin, Dick Armey and Fred Thompson, among others.
Her surprise move sets up a two-man showdown in just 72 hours between Hoffman and Democrat Bill Owens in a slick attempt by Obama White House strategists to add another seat to their party's overwhelming House majority, 257-178.
The president had appointed the Republican incumbent, John McHugh, as secretary of the Army, hoping to use a special election and the president's 52% popularity there last fall to break the GOP's historic hold on the district that runs back to the 19th century.

Only posting this because it SUCH FUN to post this good news . . and . . . there is a short blurb about Obamanation wanting to use this election to "to break the GOP's historic hold on the district that runs back to the 19th century." Interesting twist to the story that the conservatives DENIED Obama the win. Grin.
Go Doug Go. Win Doug Win.

Like I asked in a previous post, will Dede’s LACK of endorsing Hoffman help him or hurt him? I’m afraid that it may be the latter, & most of her supports will vote for the Dim.

What happened to the $200,000 the GOP was gonna spend on the RINO? Did the a-holes spend it on her or did they wise up first?

If Dede’s votes go to Hoffman based on Monday morning polls you’ll see more of the Big Hitter DEMS in NY than in Hollywood.
Wonder who Newt will endorse now? Hoffman or Owens?

The only thing that could have been better would have been to see the little GOP marxist come in 3rd.

Supposedly Newt endorsed Hoffman over Twitter earlier today. He voted against Hoffman before he voted for him. What the hell has happened to Newt?

I hadn't thought about this before, but I read this and think "what a d**k". To appoint a Secretary of the Army from ANY party for purely political purposes is just so wrong. So THAT'S how much our soldiers' lives mean to this narcissist? Merely pawns in a political game.
And thinking that most in the media probably admire the move....just sickening. These are very scary times. God Bless our soldiers and sailors!
