Abortion is the New Big Mac
Creative Minority Report ^ | 10-19-09 | matt archbold

President Obama and his pro-abortion acolytes often say things like "I believe that most women don't make that (abortion) decision lightly."

Can we just be done with that one? Really.

A recent study discussed at LifeSite by the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute shows that over 1 billion abortions have occurred worldwide all while liberals absurdly insist that nobody is actually pro-abortion and that all women take this procedure very seriously. I'm thinking that after 1 Billion we can say abortion is considered with similar weight as the decision on whether or not to get a Big Mac. (Except liberals are actually against Big Macs.)

Look, when something reaches 1 Billion customers, it usually comes in a drive-thru.

I know we're all supposed to pretend that women who carelessly jump from bed to bed to the back seat of a Pontiac all of a sudden become thoughtful and pensive moralists when it comes to abortion. But let's just say it. If women take the decision to have sex with someone they don't love lightly they're likely going to take the abortion decision lightly too. The one thing kind of leads to the other, you know? I looked it up. (Don't worry. There were no pictures)

The funny thing is that pro-aborts get mad when you call them pro-aborts. They demand to be called pro-choice. They say nobody's pro-abortion. Really?...

While driving I saw the following bumper sticker on one woman’s car: “Guns don’t kill people, right-wing pro-
lifers kill people.”

I guess she does not count unborn babies as “people.” She was also “...against the next war before it starts.”

And had an Obama sticker.

I read somewhere that the HCB would allow Planned Parenthood to have operations in every middle and high school in AMerica.

Of course with every one talking about Fox News, saucer boy, rascism we havn’t heard any more about what is in the bill.

When the state sponsors abortion, there will be even more of them.

The seriousness of the decision maker isn't really the issue. Are we to consider rape a less vile crime if the perp is known to have given great consideration to the act before hand? Generally this is known as premeditation.

And if the woman is simply cleansing herself of a parasitical cell cluster, why the need to heavily weigh the decision? They can't keep having it both ways.

I wonder how many abortion clinics will be open when they start getting reimbursed 50 dollars per procedure? I have really thought about this and am convinced abortion clinics are good book cooking spots because it is a cash deal. So, although I loathe the whole thing, having worked in a crisis pregnancy center, I think there may be an upside.

What nonsense.

In my 50+ years I’ve personally known 4 women who had abortions (at the time it happened). These were all over 25 years ago. One was 15 at the time. She married the man 8 years later and raised 2 children over her 25+ year (so far) marriage. Two were 20 year old college seniors, one of whom later married the man and raised 4 children with him. One was 26, recently married, struggling financially, and neither had wanted children at all. None were hopping from “bed to bed to Pontiac”. None were flip about their circumstance. All were conflicted and confused and sad.

I am NOT in favor of legalized abortion on demand. But articles like this just annoy me; they don’t even try to be honest or truthful about the issue. Abortion is a legal, safe, inexpensive option that looks like a viable solution to someone who is distraught, upset or scared to find themselves with an unwanted pregnancy. None of these women considered adoption as an alternative. That always amazed me that that option is not pushed more. Raising a child themselves was not a desired option at the time for these women (or their husbands/boyfriends) though 3 of the 4 went on to have children later. But adoption may have been considered if it had been better understood and easier.

Articles like this and the whole topic of ‘partial birth abortions’ will never bring about the desired result of reducing the number of abortions. The disgusting partial birth abortion is rare and usually tied in with some other equally sad medical complication. Most thinking people know that is not the overwhelming and relatively simple way that most terminations happen.

Demonizing the women is not the way to do it. Desperate, scared and sad women and girls need to see other options as viable and preferable to the abortion “solution”.

You’re right, but you’re also missing an obvious point. If these women were so “desperate, scared and sad” then why did the KNOWINGLY do the deed that put them in that position? If you know you can’t handle a baby, why make one? It’s not rocket science.

Yes, your friends might not have been bed hopping, but they were still selfish and still murdered their children. Don’t make excuses for murder.

For heaven’s sake!

The “deed” was having sex with their boyfriend or husband. Nothing earth shattering, pretty easy to do and mostly enjoyable. People have been “doing the deed” and making planned and unplanned babies in and out of wedlock for a very, very long time. They will probably continue to do so and also start at a younger age.

Obviously I’m going back to the pre-AIDS time, but I don’t think the circumstances are that different today other than maybe people are sexually active younger.

The big difference from 30 years ago is the easy availability of legal, safe, cheap abortions. In the past abortion may have been an option only for the well-healed or the REALLY desperate who had access to someone with a little medical training. Now abortion providers advertise in the yellow pages, Pennysaver and the val pack coupons that come in the mail!

Hard for me to to see how that genie will go back in the bottle. I think education will be the key to saving more unborn lives. Better methods and use of birth control and more access to easier adoption. The out-of-wedlock birth rate for all races and socio-economic classes indicates the stigma of out of wedlock pregnancy is almost non-existent. And the continuing popularity/necessity of foreign adoption indicates to me that there are still plenty of loving arms for these babies.

The partial birth abortion is used frequently for second trimester elective abortions, most before the age of viability. Ruth Padawer writing for the Bergen County Record found thousands performed in NJ alone.

But I agree with you that many women who have abortions are conflicted and sad. It is also true that there are those who are quite callous and unaffected by it.

Perhaps we should take a different tack. Our new slogan should be keep abortion legal for democrats. “Personally, I am opposed to abortion,” but for democrats it will help society in the long run.

I am one who does not care what their reasons were, either. It is the unjust taking of a human life which just didn’t happen to fit in with their plans at the time.

Well, BOTH parents are responsible for the initial part of things, but the law as it stands give the father no power or control over the mother’s decision to kill the child.
