The BBC's amazing U-turn on climate change
Telegraph ^ | 10-11-09 | Damian Thompson

Posted on 10/11/2009 9:00:08 AM PDT by kingattax

I think the BBC wanted to slip this one out quietly, but a Matt Drudge link put paid to that. The climate change correspondent of BBC News has admitted that global warming stopped in 1998 – and he reports that leading scientists believe that the earth’s cooling-off may last for decades.

“Whatever happened to global warming?” is the title of an article by Paul Hudson that represents a clear departure from the BBC’s fanatical espousal of climate change orthodoxy. The climate change campaigners will go nuts, particularly in the run-up to Copenhagen. So, I suspect, will devout believers inside the BBC. Hudson’s story was not placed very prominently by his colleagues – but a link right at the top of Drudge will have delivered at least a million page views, possibly many more.

Hudson’s piece is a U-turn – not because he has joined the ranks of sceptics who reject the theory of man-made global warming, but because at last he has written a story about the well-established fact that the earth’s temperature has not risen since 1998, and reports seriously the theories of climatologists (themselves not sceptics) who believe that we are in for 30 years of cooling caused by the falling temperatures of the oceans.

Where is the someone that can bring a lawsuit against the global warming fraud perpetrated by Gore. Cap & Tax is coming and many on Wall Street stand to make untold fortunes.

If three or four major publications merely took up the idea of journalistic ethics...and stood their grounds on facts...most of this entire debate would dissolve within twelve months. Even Hanson from NASA would start to stumble and be limited as to where he spoke.

Great! Now all they need to do is to start exhibiting some concern for the ‘youth’ problem [read - Islamic youth]. Small steps toward enslavement require massive leaps back to reality.

NASA has been getting a considerable percentage of it’s budget from the AGW fraud. That’s in jeopardy as reality starts to sink in.

Seeing some pushback on the AGW hoax is like a breath of fresh air. If BBC can get skeptical, maybe a US medium will follow.

No wonder the global socialists changed the name of their scam from “global warming” to “climate change”.
Now they’ve got everything covered.

I don't know how old you are, but I am old enough to remember that the global socialists (and their fellow-travelling / well-paid "scientists") already cycled through that scam, back in the '70s. I was just out of college at the time and remember it well.

If the level of CO2 drops because of a drop in the outgassing from the Earth's oceans due to global cooling its going to make life really difficult for the AGW global warming climate change cult followers.

I said on yesterday’s BBC thread that this would be an important article, perhaps even a turning point, because the BBC is one of the principal villains in the Global Warming scam. They have done their utmost to propagate this fraud, and they are extremely influential.

I also mentioned that it was linked on Drudge. Just a simple headline at the top of the page. No picture, even. But as Damian Thompson points out, that made all the difference. The BBC gives it credibility, coming from an extreme politically correct leftist source not easily dismissed, and Drudge gives it widespread and unexpected publicity.

Well, people might possibly get mad if they learn that Obama’s insane climate czar had spent trillions to bury CO2 in the oceans, and then it turns out that we are entering a little ice age, and trees and food crops are dying, because of a government-made shortage of CO2.

Unless, of course, the media manages to spin it. Which they would certainly be ready and willing to do.

One scientist predicted the rise, then the cooling trend, from right here in Washington State. Of course, he's always written off as a whacko and not a "real" scientist because he's from a small State school.

Professor Easterbrook nailed the rise AND the current cooling trend, in magnitude and time. And his conclusion: man has minimal, if any, impact on the trend. And that the heating over the next century will be less than 1 deg Celcius, as opposed to the 4+ of the IPCC.

Thier global warming coverage was (IMHO) criminal in being so biased. Obvious lies and half truths, I will never believe a thing the BBC says without another trust worthy source saying the same.

Here's the latest NASA model graph for solar cycle 24 (courtesy of solarcycle24.com ):

Notice the gap between the actual numbers and the beginning of the red "prediction" curve. The NASA model is becoming less tenable with each passing month. That's why they're in such a rush to get legislation passed before December.

Lots of scientists know it’s a fraud. Lots of people in government know its a fraud. Cap & Tax, the VAT, this is the true purpose behind global warming. We spin our wheels and vent, but we can’t vote on the bill. That’s up to the clowns in D.C. There is too much power concentrated in the hands of a few. How do we change government so it is truly representative government. Overwhelming majorities oppose health care reform, cap & tax, stimulus bills, bailouts and they STILL go ahead and disregard what the voters want. They ignored the hundreds of thousands who marched on D.C. What does it take?

When you show that graph, you need to show all of the nasa prediction graphs for SC24 since 2006, the goal posts have been moved on average every 3 months.

You can probably find them in the archives of wattsupwiththat.com. Anthony watts has posted a story about it every time its happened in the last few years. Not only has the ramp up been moved forward in time, but the amplitude at peak has been brought down dramatically. In 2006 they were predicting SC24 to be the biggest ever...now its predicted to be one of the smallest. (I must say that NASA was saying this, other solar physicists were predicting a small cycle like we have now...NASA scoffed at the other scientists).

I found the graph comparisons at wattsupwiththat.com in the Jan 8 2009 entry.

The NASA graph from Oct 2008 predicted Solar Cycle 24 would show significant activity by early 2009 (of course, it didn't), and peak around 2012 with an activity of close to 140.

The revised Jan 2009 prediction had it showing significant activity by the end of 2009, and peaking at a little over 100 closer to 2013.

And the latest (Oct 2009) shows a peak of around 90 in 2013 (the Dalton Minimum/"Year Without A Summer" range was 50 to 100). So they're backtracking significantly on their predictions. NASA's model still predicts significant activity by January 2010, and we're not seeing anything yet. They may have to revise again and put the old graphs in the memory hole.

If we arrive at spring 2010 and still do not have any significant sunspot activity, it will be time to start worrying, because that will make over two years with little or no activity. The amount of time that we've been without activity is very unusual for the last 300 years, and could be an indicator of another Maunder Minimum-type event

We have lost about a month of spring and a month of fall to winter as it is. Generally it takes about 3-5 years for cool down or hot up periods to work their way through our climate system. Our climate seems to have about that much hysteresis ...

Of course no one knows what causes the glaciation ice ages ... we think we know what started them, the closing up of the Isthmus of Panama by plate tectonics, but what causes them to cycle is still up in the air.

So what if it is going down and doesn't stop? Never bet against the sun.
