Utahns continue to open their wallets for Mitt Romney.
The former leader of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City raised about $125,000 at a Tuesday dinner held at the Little America Hotel, according to his spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.
Fehrnstrom said 150 people attended the event, which cost contributors $1,000 a plate or $5,000 for special access to a VIP reception before the dinner.
"Mitt Romney appreciates the support, and the money raised will allow him to stay active politically and help the Republican Party come back strong in the 2010 elections," Fehrnstrom said.

Romney is not in support of bailing out corporations.Oh, so big banks in New York aren't corporations and TARP really wasn't a bailout, was it?
"The TARP program, while not transparent and not having been used as wisely it should have been, was nevertheless necessary to keep banks from collapsing in a cascade of failures. You cannot have a free economy and free market if there is not a financial system."

To: rabscuttle385
What is clipped from the article is:
"
The money will go to Romney's "Free & Strong America"
political action committee, which funds his appearances on behalf of
GOP candidates and issues as well as direct campaign contributions."
So Romney can claim it is for others, but is for his own travel expenses.

I think you are mistaken! More importantly, I KNOW you are mistaken! I have friends that work in the banking industry here in Texas and it was no where near as bad as Paulsen and Bush were stating (kinda like the BS that Obama spewed for over six months about the “worst economic recession since the Great Depression” - BS!)
If the original TARP was not passed, some banks and businesses (some big ones at that) would have folded - and that is a GOOD thing! Bad businesses NEED to fail so that corrections can be made!
Money was still in the system and furthermore, there would have been REAL stimulus, as people would have started shopping their money around to other banks! And human nature is simple, cash flows freely in large denominations (people walking around with money in cash have a tendency to spend some of it!)
If you think we were really on the brink of an absolutely collapse, then we are still there! Because the only thing TARP I did was add money on TOP of a shaky, unstable situation. We are now MORE leveraged than we were before all this crap, so explain to me how you think borrowing our way out of debt works!?!?!?!

I’m not sure I buy that argument. Unless you can point at a reliable report that states that there was a liquidity problem in the banking system, then it’s just smoke and mirrors.
I agree that the economy was in a bad way, but you make it sound as though we were at the beginning of a major bank run.
To: Diogenesis
Yes he has received money from AIG. If Romney were truly investigated for kickbacks and schemes, he would already have been in prison. I didn’t know anything about the ACORN thing though. Romney is lucks he is still a free citizen with his financial shenanigans. I don’t know how he sleeps at night, frankly.

So I repeat, can you point on some actual research to back your claim?
To: rabscuttle385; GOP_Lady
Back Spring 2008 I still kind of believed talk radio who finally picked Romney, and Romney talked the best conservative talk of the three. He really can talk the talk and debate. But TARP1 was a great test to show what they will do under stress. TARP1 is the great litmus test. It destroyed the idea of freedom, capitalism and markets and is the center of M Moores movie that attacks capitalism. It sent the message, "Republicans only care for the rich"
I have moved far beyond “A republican must win at any cost”
Add Romney care.

September 2008. I remember that. That was when
Team Romney attacked Gov. Palin.
The McCain/Palin ticket was up winning in the days prior to September 18th, 2008.
So the RomneyTeam attacked Gov. Palin and her children to throw Election2008.
"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 (2008, weeks before the election) Early Show appearance."
David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."
David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician.
Let me say for the record: If Romney emerges as the Republican nominee, I will support him without qualm."
Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House,
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin.
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
He's in charge on November 5th.'"
The Prowler added: "Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."
The Romney supporters in the McCain campaign had access to internal polling which indicated well in advance of the November 4 election that McCain had no chance to win.
So they began working to position their man Mitt for a run in 2012. Just two days after the election,The Palmetto Scoop reported:
"One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"Im told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palins people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romneys former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
These aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.
Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"Heres what I think: I think there are some staffers on the McCain campaign who seriously screwed up the roll out of Sarah Palin, to which Governor Palin herself objected.
These staffers are now out trying to finish her off thinking, as typical D.C. types do, that if they dont do it to her, shell do it to them. They just never understood who Palin is or what she is about."
"Likewise, I do think there are some staffers and others who expect Mitt Romney to run again in 2012,
they decided McCain could not win, and decided to undermine Sarah Palin and her chances hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."
"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign? (Mark Wallace, Romney pimp)
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the Diva leak was Nicolle Wallaces husband."
Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney
"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"
"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"
"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"
"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"
"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Hey, I think they are ALL corrupt! Personally, if we vote for ANY of the sitting members in Congress or the White House, then the USA is doomed to become a full-fledged, wretched Communist nation!!
I have to say, as Republican/RINOs go, my two Senators are not the worst in DC, but I will NOT vote for either one of them because they both voted for TARP I! But, we MUST not get caught up in the “my Senator is not as bad as your Senator” squabble! We need to start over with people who have lived life - who have EARNED the right to represent us - not just someone who’s daddy was once elected!
Our system of government was never meant to be run by “professional politicians!” It was designed to be ran BY the people, FOR the people (I think I read that somewhere once)!!

Again, you are quoting news reports. Show me some research that backs your claim. How about some reserve reports from major banks, both in their vaults and at the Fed. Something that shows that there was a liquidity crises. Don’t just point to some news report. What we did with the bailout was extreme fiscal policy, which may or may have not worked.
