WASHINGTON In a vote that should send chills up the spine of those satisfied with their current health insurance, Democrats in the Senate Finance Committee today rejected a Republican amendment that would allow Americans to keep their current health care coverage.
Sponsored by U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), the amendment stated that the implementation of the final health care bill would not take place unless the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) was able to certify before Congress that the legislation would not cause more than 1,000,000 Americans to lose their current coverage.
The amendment was rejected 10-13, with all Republican Senators voting in favor and all Democrats voting against.
Notably, the defeat of the Hatch Amendment comes on the same week that the head of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Douglas Elmendorf, testified before Congress that seniors would see reduced Medicare benefits under the bill currently in the Finance Committee.
It also came on the same day that various media accounts highlighted the Democrats defense of the proposed cuts in the popular Medicare Advantage program that so many senior citizens rely upon for their health care.
Its inexplicable that the same Democrats who continue to insist that Americans current health care coverage will not be affected by the Democrats government-run proposal would then turn around and vote against an amendment that would ensure just that, National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Amber Wilkerson Marchand said today. Blanche Lincoln needs to level with her constituents, especially the senior citizens in her state who the head of the CBO said will see deep Medicare cuts in the Democrat proposal: will they get to keep their current health care coverage, and if so, why did she vote against legislation that would ensure such a provision will be included in the final bill?
I wouldn’t call tea-parties, a million marching on Washington and less than 40% support for current HealthCare legislation a sign of a slumbering populace.
While I wish that EVERYONE were politically aware, we must give credit where credit is due: a sleeping giant HAS been awakened.
What about our HSA?
I understand that all the Dims’ bills would ‘outlaw’ HSAs.
Say it ain’t so, Joe.
You can’t keep your existing insurance, because how would the government control you? Thats just nonsense.
Socialism is on the march worldwide, making tremendous strides inside the United States. The foundations for these scumbags have been in place for a long time.

Barack Obama IS A LIAR.
“While I wish that EVERYONE were politically aware, we must give credit where credit is due: a sleeping giant HAS been awakened.”
I remain skeptical. But, we will know in 2010.
That was a given. The story that “blue dog Democrats” were against, maybe, was a ploy.
They were only teasing, taunting , and tormenting you. A Democrat by any other name is a Democrat.
If you think that what they did now is bad, wait until they get you [us] in the killing room.
Elections have conaequences.
It isn’t about health care or health insurance.
It’s about control for the government.
It may also be about setting up a few state-approved health insurance companies as the chosen ones to take the people’s premium money with the force of government covering their backs, but that’s a secondary objective to pay back their friends.
Yep and they're playing both ends against the middle. Driving the health insurers out of business will be accomplished because the bill it puts huge financial burdens on business owners who would be forced to insure employees with insurance policies that meet gubmint requirements or pay a hefty fine. The idea here is to get business' to dump their private insurance and force their employees onto the "public option." The result will be the failure of the private insurance providers.
As far as HR3200 and HSA's, the language contained on pages 26-30, Section 122, defines what is "acceptable" coverage. The language contained in this section of the bill makes health plans in which individuals pay for routine services, but carry insurance only for catastrophic events, (such as Health Savings Accounts) illegal.
Um, except for the ONE MILLION PEOPLE in Hatch's amendment that would be "allowed" to lose their coverage! Read the article.
See post 29. HSA's are outlawed according to language contained in HR3200, pages 26-30.
When TSHTF, in honor of family tradition, I wish to carry a BAR just as my dad did in 1944 when he fought against another socialist/fascist dictator.
