Creationists Given Academic Credit for Trolling
Via LGF ^ | 8/10/09 | Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

William Dembski, the “intelligent design” creationist who is a professor in philosophy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, has some rather interesting requirements for students of his creationism courses — 20% of their final grade comes from having written 10 posts promoting ID on “hostile” websites: Academic Year 2009-2010.

Spring 2009

Intelligent Design (SOUTHERN EVANGELICAL SEMINARY #AP 410, 510, and 810; May 11 – 16, 2009)

NEW! THE DUE DATE FOR ALL WORK IN THIS COURSE IS AUGUST 14, 2009. Here’s what you will need to do to wrap things up:

AP410 — This is the undegrad [sic] course. You have three things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 40% of your grade); (2) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 40% of your grade); (3) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 2,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).

AP510 — This is the masters course. You have four things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 30% of your grade); (2) write a 1,500- to 2,000-word critical review of Francis Collins’s The Language of God — for instructions, see below (20% of your grade); (3) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 30% of your grade); (4) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 3,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).

Tantrum throwing? Your side had to go to daddy (JR) and complain that “He’s looking at me”.

Where’s the scientific proof I asked for Saturday to start the civil debate? Still waiting.

The evolution side asks for scientific proof time after time. All we get in return is religion masquerading as science from people with NO background in the field they are talking about. The articles they post have NO data, they are just incorrect (or purposely slanted)reviews of actually articles supporting evolution with a paragraph tagged on at the end saying god did it.

Isn’t one of the commandments “Thou shalt not lie”?

oh nooooooo you don’t wack-a-doodle-doo...

your side of the aisle whined and brought up JR being coerced...

you’re just sore-headed YOU all got exposed lying...

for like the ga-jillionth time!

Project-alot-all you wish, but normal people know (you)better!

I continue to be registered Republican because despite the liberal drift in the NorthEast (incl DC) - I believe the party can be turned around.

I hope so, dearest sister in Christ! But from my perch in Massachusetts, I'm not exactly holding my breath. The GOP "eats their own": See the dispute between David Frum and David Horowitz, for instance; or the one between Michael Steele et al. and Glenn Beck.

However, lately I'm increasingly coming to believe that the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law effectively made organized political parties irrelevant. In elections, the "real action" — financial and ideological — has devolved into the hands of "non-profit, non-partisan" private organizations which have zillions of ways to accumulate and move money around outside the direct purview of the FEC. They can collaborate and pool funds in selected races in ways forbidden to the official, organized parties.

Whatever the case, my prediction is the GOP can never recover, unless it re-embraces its conservative, largely Christian core. I figure they need us more than we need them.

As you can see, I'm feeling rather bitter about this situation. But then, the GOP has the magnificent reputation of always finding a way to shoot itself in its own foot.

If you can’t quote my whole post, you are a joke and a fraud.

Please show a post where I “ridicule people of faith”. You can’t. I simply point out the incongruity of a specific part of that faith which is inconsistent with the last few thousand years of scientific study.

Don’t like it? Tough.

It turns out labels aren’t particularly helpful. I suggested that the self-described “true conservatives” who were objecting to Fundamentalist pressure on JimRob were perhaps Libertarians.

Now I’m wondering whether they may actually be “Radical Progressives.” The reason I wonder is the type of tactic being used here is straight out of the radical progressive playbook: “First of all, blame the other guy for doing what you are, in fact, already doing.” Thus one manages (somehow) to self-innoculate against any suspicion that one — a pillar of virtue — is capable of sinking to the level of behavior of the “enemy.”

It’s absurd. But the description seems to fit this case: Fundamentalist Christians are being blamed for what these “Liberaltarians” (or whatever you want to call them) are doing themselves. I.e., pressuring JimRob.

Why are they pressuring JimRob? Simply to remove speech of which they disapprove from public view.

But who made them “Censor?” Haven’t they ever heard of the First Amendment???

I posted #380 before I read this...so I see we’re on the exact same page...”radical progressive” is just another word embarssed liberals use to avoid “liberal”.

Also, agreed 100% about the GOP too!

"Few thousand years of scientific study"???

You ignorance of history continues to be appalling.

Indeed. That is what I am saying, too.

They likely will not succeed in Massachusetts in the next decade, but I believe they can recover the states they lost in the last general election by 2012.

But only if they actually pay attention. And they must start proving they are listening for 2010.

Thank you for sharing your insights, dearest sister in Christ!

What most of us don’t love is the hijacking and abuse of science to promote liberal, Christian bashing agenda.

When it becomes a weapon which is used to attack people and tear down their faith, that’s just not acceptable. When science has become the new religion that is being offered to replace people’s faith, that doesn’t work either.

Well said and of course is exactly what’s going on...right here in this very thread.

Closet liberals right here for instance badger GGG to take the fight to another site...

and then have the audacity to demand creationists be “civil”...right after a long screed about fairy tales...stupidity...knuckle-dragging...

and then with a complete straight face call us liars and whiners to JR...you know, immediately after saying he’s been coerced.

and best of all babble and parrot “peer review” nonsense then demand “proof”...

Knowing full well each and every single instance will be automatically met 100% of the time with “that’s a reliigious attack on science, not proof”...

some have even admitted they don’t bother reading the articles while attacking them!

and lastly, they’ll project about US “running from the room” and acting like liberals!

But not once have a I seen a single evo EVER answer or present how they would:

1. know if a creationist or an evo scientist submitted something for peer review if their name wasn’t attached to their work...

2. Show me ANY well known liberal that subscribes to creationism.

Not asking for much but as far as I know, there simply aren’t any. Not algore, not the zero, not Chrissy Fit Matthews...

so the queestion remains...with all the endless liberal protestations of evidence...

let us see some in regards to the legitimacy of peer review and prove evolution is not the liberal(’s) position, virtually 100% of the time.

I’ve only been waiting for months now!

... there’s a much larger amount of closet FR liberals doing their very best to 5th column FR.

Well I think you're probably right about that, tpanther! FR is what you'd call a "rich target" ....

I'm bearing in mind a recent statement from David Horowitz, a "radical son" who recovered from Red Diaper Syndrome to become a leading conservative voice for our age. He said that the people who attack America are people who haven't spent 15 minutes in their entire lives thinking about what constitutes the Good Society. They are people whose own rise to power absolutely depends on destroying whatever they believe constitutes the social "status quo."

So, who are these people? They don't seem particularly friendly to the idea of liberty....

In the end, it doesn't matter what labels they wear. It's what they DO.

That's what a censor does, he grants you the right under the 1st. Amendment to say what he permits, but check with him first for permission just to be safe.

Thanks, Jim..

As we have discussed once before, this is the “missing link” in the discussion.

God gave man the mind for scientific inquiry. Most of the posts on this thread are buried in deep denial of that simple fact, and in effect, disgrace themselves in the eyes of the Almighty because of it.

...picking my jaw up off the floor...

You said once you weren’t always a YEC. Did someone insult you into changing your mind?

Why do you assume it was insulting? Why must you always project your victimhood?

Well said, count-your-change! The self-appointed "censor," however, has failed to detect the (logical) fly in the ointment....

It's a small point. To wit: Censors are unconstitutional in the first place, under the First Amendment.

Oh, these pesky details!!!

The bible is a religious document, not a peer reviewed scientific journal article.

Where is the proof?
