3,000 Retired Educators Take Home Six-Figure Pensions (California, of course)
Orange County Register ^ | 9/18/2009 | Tony Saveedra and Jennifer Muir

Retired Capistrano Unified School District Superintendent James A. Fleming could face jail if convicted on a felony indictment charging him with using school resources to track his political enemies.

But that won't stop his public pensions from rolling in. Fleming collects $141,331 a year in California state teacher retirement funds, on top of the $64,068 pension he collects from working 27 years in Florida. Even if convicted on the 2007 charges, both his pensions will remain untouched.

Fleming is one of 3,090 educators in the California State Teachers' Retirement System who make at least $100,000 a year in taxpayer-guaranteed public pensions, according to a CalSTRS database obtained under the state Public Records Act...

Well, there should at least be a clause in there that if you commit a serious crime you forfeit the pension! That one clause alone would probably save the taxpayers of CA a pretty penny.

Trying to imagine where this state wastes money would be mind boggling. I'd guess that something slightly less than half of the budget is Acornian and represents an investment in 'people' with zero impact on infrustructure.

I could be wrong, it could be much larger than that and it is appropriate to sight the lack of major projects being undertaken as a sign of such. Filling wallets with money takes presidence over building a dam and filling it with water, don't cha know.

What about the ex-cop Peterson who murdered his wife? Should he collect his 72K per year pension in prison?

That's a very good legal question that is far beyond what I know. I doubt that pension agreements generally include any language stating that pension payments end if the retiree winds up in jail for life -- maybe they should! Then again, other people may be dependent upon someone's pension, eg, a spouse or a disabled child. So why punish them too?

And they’ve done such a bang-up job too, haven’t they? They should be paying the American public back.

I don't have a clue as to what you mean by those statements.

I have no doubt that you don't either.

If you don't understand something, the most dangerous and least productive path to take is to assume it is meaningless.

Never make the assumption that everyone is as ignorant of the same things you are, my FRiend. And thanks for the half-hearted welcome.

“Don’t forget how greedy the government got once so-called drug-related property confiscations became “legal,” allowing such confiscations without due process!”

They don’t do nearly enough of it!

Government at all levels, federal, state, county and city, is government has become massive, bloated, and all controlling, while those in government now collect opulent salaries, benefits and lottery style retirement pensions, while the entire private sector loses it's homes, investments, retirements, jobs etc...

Americans can no longer afford these government tax paid life styles and wages of fire fighters, teachers, city councilmen, mayors, governors, congress members, cops, and all the other millions of government employees. It's crushing America as government clings to the backs of tax payers.

To compound this subversion of our system, the things government is supposed to do, like secure our borders and protect our sovereignty, it refuses to do, while at the same time forcing the people to pay for this epic lawless violence and chaos.

There is something exceptionally delicious about The Envy Ray being turned on teachers' union members.

Those that can't do, live quite well in their reclining years.
