The increasingly ironically named Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, better known as ACORN, might as well take down its shingle.
Turns out ACORN itself is in dire need of reforming.
Now, however, the organization's reputation is so shot that only those who think their particular political side can do absolutely no wrong are blinded enough to support the organization, whose claims that ACORN's troubles are all due to a few misguided employees and a concerted attack by the far right sound increasingly hollow and desperate.
The left-leaning group came under fire last year in the presidential campaign when it was discovered that ACORN's voter registration drives, which were blatantly designed to swell the ranks of voters who were likely to vote for Democratic candidates, had resulted in many fraudulent registrations.
Since then, conservative filmmakers James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles conducted their own undercover "sting" operation, which their evidence documented on video. Posing as a prostitute and pimp, the pair got advice from ACORN officials on how to get government housing help and how to hide their income, which the ACORN officials believed was illicit. That resulted in the firings of four ACORN employees in the group's Baltimore and Washington offices - along with claims by ACORN officials that the tapes were doctored.
By the time the organization realized that the evidence was going to stick in the court of public opinion, its leaders decided Wednesday to launch their own investigation into what they claimed, just as they did during the voter fraud last year, that it was just isolated cases.
It's clear that ACORN is simply trying to deflect its guilt. This kind of immoral conduct doesn't just happen. It is evidence of the culture that pervades the organization, one that the end of furthering a left-wing agenda justifies whatever means are employed. Instead of being part of a solution to foster reform, ACORN is the new poster child of what needs to be reformed.
The Senate jumped on this earlier this week, voting decisively 83-7 to cut off federal funding of ACORN. Neither of Georgia's two senators - Saxby Chambliss, R-Moultrie, and Johnny Isakson, R-Marietta - were fans of ACORN to start with, and they did the right thing by voting to kill the organization's funding.
The Census Bureau was wise to sever relations with the group as well. Frankly, if ACORN were involved in the population count next year, the numbers would be tainted.
On Thursday, the House followed suit, voting 245-75 to cut off the federal funding that is the lifeblood of the organization. To their credit, two representatives whose districts include Southwest Georgia counties - Reps. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, and Jim Marshall, D-Macon - joined 11 other members of the Georgia legislative delegation in voting to stop funneling more federal money to this corrupt organization. What's unbelievable, however, is that two Georgia congressmen - Reps. John Lewis, D-Atlanta, and David Scott, D-Atlanta - and 73 other House Democrats could rationalize continuing the shovel tax money to illicit purposes.
The action of Congress, however, hasn't turned the spigot on the flow of money. For that to happen, President Obama has to sign the legislation. He should not even wait for the ink to dry on the paper before he signs.
Congress and the president need to thoroughly investigate ACORN and identify the culprits who have created this culture of corruption so that when they reorganize under a different same, they won't again be allowed access to taxpayer funds.
Rats that are run out of one nest never go away. They just look a new place to nest - and infest.

Obama IS Acorn. He won’t have any problem throwing them under the bus though. Besides haven’t you heard that anyone who is against Acorn is a racist?
The real fun begins when the rats asses get too near the crowbar hotel, then they begin to SING. What a pretty melody they will scream.
87 to 3 and 245 to 75.
Now where’s the list of those 3 and 75 names?
And where’s the Special RECALL ELECTIONS for them?
Nest and infest. That is the problem.
FReep mail me if you want on/off the list.
Right. The progressive media has to push this FAST. Before the people realize what they are doing.
When an employee of a “BIG business” company screws up, who gets sued?
A RICO investigation is needed.
ACORN is a window into the vicious world of liberal (win at any cost) politics.
It should shine a white hot spotlight of examination on the president who has been an ardent supporter. But due to the corrupt MSM, it won’t.
Here’s your list:
Tsk tsk, so negative!
The wind has changed, different weather is a-coming.
Thank You. And Senator John McQueeg listed as Not Voting.
What a surprise, NOT!
