"The Newlywed Game" is bringing on its first gay couple.
It's a celebrity duo for the long-running game show, now on the GSN cable network. George Takei, who played Mr. Sulu on "Star Trek," will appear with his partner, Brad Altman. They just celebrated their first anniversary after being married in Los Angeles.

sthwell.
Microviewage.
People actually watch this program, and even get upset over it?
George was good in Green Berets
I have nothing against the man
Ew.
Please, no photon torpedo jokes.
Isn’t that the show where they ask intimate questions of the “spouses” to see how well they know each other?
Man, this would be a good SNL/MadTV skit.
Actually this is George Takei’s last gasp at trying to be relevant.
It’s sponsored by Harmony.com who got sued for not offering their services to gays and lost. They had to set up a service for the gay, lesbian and transgendered communities. My guess is they are just being proactive to prevent another suit or maybe complying with the agreement they made to settle the lawsuit.
(BARF) You know, even when i was a kid and watched this show when I was home sick, I thought it was shallow and hokey with their stupid q/a (cheapo prizes, too), but this somehow manages to make it even worse.
What would Scotty say?
I have nothing against the man”
Neither do I. And I intend to keep it that way. ;O)
Seriously though. I met him years ago at breakfast before a convention in Little Rock. He took time with the fans and was a cordial person. While I personally disapprove of his lifestyle, as long as it doesn’t effect me. To each his own.
Is the bride pregnant?
Going where no gay men have gone before?
I foresee a severe loss of ratings for "The Newlywed Game". Viewership will likely be up when the queers are actually on, but longer term, normal straight viewers will probably tune the program out in disgust.
Warp factor 2!
The stupid thing about this is not that they are a gay couple — if the people who watch the show don’t mind, they’ll make money, and if the people who watch the show DO mind, the ratings will fall and the show will either not repeat the error or will get cancelled.
The stupid thing is that this “newlywed couple” has been living together for 20 years. The mild entertainment value of this show was that these newlyweds, so much in love they couldn’t take their eyes off each other, would be shown to know nothing about each other, would be embarassed in public, and maybe would even reveal things that might shock their spouses.
I don’t see how any of that happens with a couple of 20 years. Which is why they don’t run the “married for 20 years” show.
