Poll: News Media’s Credibility Plunges
CBS ^ | Sept. 14, 2009 | AP

The news media's credibility is sagging along with its revenue.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans think the news stories they read, hear and watch are frequently inaccurate, according to a poll released Sunday by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. That marks the highest level of skepticism recorded since 1985, when this study of public perceptions of the media was first done.

The survey found that 63 percent of the respondents thought the information they get from the media was often off base. In Pew Research's previous survey, in 2007, 53 percent of the people expressed that doubt about accuracy. .

Newspaper ad sales plunged by 29 percent, or nearly $5.5 billion, during the first half of this year, according to the Newspaper Association of America. TV ad revenue on broadcast stations dropped by 12 percent, or nearly $3 billion, during the same period, according to the Television Bureau of Advertising. Radio advertising fell by 23 percent, or $2.3 billion, according to the Radio Advertising Bureau.

But he still believes many media outlets still go to great lengths to get the facts right and own up to their mistakes when the information is wrong.

"The great flood that goes under the heading `news media' has been poisoned by junk blogs, gossip sheets, shout radio and cable-TV partisans that don't deserve to be trusted," Keller told The Associated Press in an e-mail.

The Internet also has made it easier to research information and find errors in news stories, said Kathleen Carroll, the AP's executive editor. And the Web's discussion boards and community forums spread word of mistakes when they're found.

Carroll hopes the increased scrutiny and accountability fostered by the Internet will lead to better journalism.

The media is the enemy’s front line defense, until they are confronted and exposed nothing gets better! There is an ABC,NBC, CBS, CNN affiliate in every city. We could ALL attend these protests nationwide! At least they would get local coverage...my CBS affiliate had NO news on Saturday night - zip! They can ignore and lie about protests when held in one spot, but they can’t ignore us in every city at the same time.

The time is right...LET’S ROLL!

If this is true, how do we explain BO’s “skyrocketing” new poll numbers? Somebody, somewhere is buying the MSM’s garbage.

Mathematically:

They needed a pol to tell them this? Ratings, no news paper sales weren’t enough. They are really out of touch. When no one buys your product, I guess it would only be a reporter, columnist or a kos kiddie that would need out side info to tell them the bad news. They sure can’t figure it out for them selves.

File that response under "screeching in defiance of reality."

Is it just his personal approval?

How are his approval numbers on the issues?

Also, how overweighted with democrats are said polls?

As important as the errors (in addition to “errors”) they make are the things they choose to totally ignore.

More important in my opinion. Their sin is ‘omission’!

I trust the news media on the whole when it comes to simple facts that cannot be clouded by personal politics. An example would be a hurricane headed toward Florida with 120 mph wind gust. Or an earthquake somewhere measuring 6.1 in the Richter scale.

They tend to get the “Who, What, When and Where” right. The “Why” is when their liberal (lying) nature kicks in. To the MSM the truth has to be less important than the goals they wish to achieve. After all, it's for the children.

My physiology is this -
The first time I deal with someone who I am forced to deal with, I and calm, polite and warn then that the next time I won’t be so nice. If that does not work and I have to come back a third time for the same reason I am going to be so nasty they are going to want to call the cops.

I then suggest that they not go to step 2 or 3 and do their job the first time and we will both be happy.

Unfortunately with government personnel, 90% + of the time we get to the third stage. It seems that most government workers don’t think that they are responsible for anything but to collect a salary.

When one gets mean and nasty they quickly resolve the problem due to the fact that all supervisors get directly involved and they want to get you out of their as fast as possible.

If you tell a lie consistently, it becomes the reality for those who aren’t paying attention.
