Parasitic infections and other diseases usually associated with the developing world are cropping up with alarming frequency among U.S. poor, especially in states along the U.S.-Mexico border, the rural South and in Appalachia, according to researchers.
Government and private researchers are just beginning to assess the toll of the infections, which are a significant cause of heart disease, seizures and congenital birth defects among black and Hispanic populations.

One obstacle is that the diseases, long thought to be an overseas problem, are only briefly discussed in most U.S. medical school classes and textbooks, so many physicians don't recognize them.
Some of the infections are transmitted by bug bites and some by animal feces contaminated with parasite larvae; still others are viral. All spread in conditions of overcrowding, malnutrition, poor sanitation and close contact with animals receiving little veterinary care.

Illegal immigrants working in the kitchen of the restaurant you frequent, the illegal who works cheap as your house cleaner or that illegal who picked that apple or lettuce you forgot to wash may give you some nasty illnesses. Many illegals do not practice good sanitation or use window screens as they were not familiar with such concepts back in their home country.
This is another social and economic cost of illegals, they bring in diseases to the U.S. that were once confined to other parts of the world. Some are transfered from sick persons by insects, others by the sick person's virus shedding or in feces.
Many American doctors are not schooled in these illnesses as these were once rare in the U.S. Illegals who go to emergency rooms for the illness and are diagnosed often don't follow up due to reluctance to get noticed by immigration or due to being uninsured.
Since the days of janet reno de'bull no one has been screened coming here.
Having announced to the world, and especially to Mexico, our decision not to control entry across our borders, we are reaping the consequences of our folly.

If somebody tells you that this kind of story is hyperbole, challenge them to spend ten minutes in an urban emergency room. Odds are that a native-born American will be symptomatic by the next morning and be out of sorts for a week.
Michael Savage is spot on with this demo tape. Thousands upon thousands of Americans (including school age children) have been exposed to TB, requiring testing. Many politicians avoid their children being exposed to third world diseases by enrolling them in pricey private schools. The rest of us are not that fortunate.

Health officials say forty-two inmates and jail workers have tested positive for the disease since an outbreak last month. Only two of those reported cases are contagious, and one former inmate is being examined to see if the disease has reached his lungs.

I’ve always had an interest in parasitology, though I took my college courses some 40 years ago. Perhaps there were a lot more poverty stricken people back then, but all of the diseases mentioned were fairly familiar, except for chagas. Those little animals have always been with us. They are fascinating in their approach to life.
What’s interesting is that the WSJ mentioned so few of the diseases. There are plenty more that were given no coverage in the article. Many are tropical diseases, and your physician probably slept through those courses, unless he went to the University of Louisiana Med School. That state has a truly excellent tropical medicine school.
One should not forget the big killer in the parasite world, malaria. It literally kills millions. Why it is not endemic in the US is a puzzlement. My parasitology profs always made it a point to remind us that the species of mosquito that transmits malaria is common in some parts of the US. Just a reminder that malaria was a commmon parasitic disease in the US. I don’t know that it has ever resurged domestically,

Working with Medicaid here in Georgia, I was often of the opinion that the USofA will see an increase in some of the illnesses we have “eradicated” such as TB, due to the influx of illegal aliens.
Many of the Illegal Aliens from Mexico are from poorer areas. Not only do they not read Spanish, it’s not their first language . . . so forms in Spanish do little good to assist them. They are from rural areas and lived without indoor plumbing. Many don’t have a clue about sanitation.
The USofA has lost its common sense. Ellis Island should have never been closed. The Border should have been closed.
Yes, it’s been a problem not well covered in the main-stream media. As for private schools; home schooling is an excellent choice, too.

Can’t blame the third world for that one. Blame Bed Bugs on your friendly neighborhood environmentalist. It’s the direct result of banning effective pesticides.
I finally asked whether it wouldn't be less painful just to answer the question honestly. She agreed, but it's a problem the whole country has.

That's total nonsense. Toxocariasis, Cysticercosis, and Chagas' Disease are all discussed in any standard Parasitology course. Cytomegalovirus would be included in Virology, and has in fact been more common for decades than this article would lead one to believe.
Contrary to what these two MSM authoresses imply, the doctors are the least part of the problem. The porous border patrol and tolerance of illegal aliens by the federal government is by far the more important factor in the increasing number of cases of these illnesses seen in the US.
