Yale University is publishing a book about the notorious cartoons of Muhammad, printed in Danish newspapers in 2006, that inflamed radical Muslims and touched off riots in which upward of 200 people were killed.
While many Muslims say any depiction of Muhammad is blasphemous, the irreverence shown to Judeo-Christian religious figures has become so commonplace in Western culture that only the deeply religious notice anymore, and when they complain, they're dismissed as bigots or worse by academics and journalists.
By comparison, the Muhammad cartoons were quite mild, but you're going to have to take our word because Yale, that bastion of unbridled thought and speech with its faculty internationally renowned for its anti-Christian secularism, refused to publish the drawings in "The Cartoons That Shook the World" because Yale is afraid they might offend Muslims.
But printing this book without the cartoons makes as much sense as publishing a tome about the Chris Dodd Bear Market without mentioning Sen. Dodd.
Ping to a Republican-American Editorial.
If you want on or off this list, let me know.
From the merely bizzare to the surreal.
LOL!
He’s...da Bomb!
They are muslim phobic.
Eric Idle admits to this phobia too. He steering clear of any jokes that might offend muslims in The Life Of Brian. He was fearful of his life.
Cowardice.
Hitler wasn't happy about being mocked either.
This violent response to protected speech must be erradicated around the world. Not cowering in fear from our muslim "masters" who openly discriminate against non-muslims under their laws.
Did Newsweak’s unsubstantiated rumor of korans being flushed down the toilet offend muslims? Why would they print such a thing?
While you wait it's not music you hear it's readings from their religious books. The guy I talked to suggested I take my questions to their whyislam.org site -- he was IMO more interested in proselytizing and than discussing.
I'd like to know what American Muslims feeeeeel about this cartoon vis-à-vis free speech for example. Why should we respect American Muslims if they do not respect us?
Meanwhile in a country of Muslims, Turkey, hundreds of thousands of Turks took to the streets a year or so ago to defend their democratic republic and freedoms against their governments' surprise Islamist tendencies. The AKP had promised voters to respect Turkey's secular heritage.
If we Americans took to the streets to protest American Muslims' intolerance American Muslims would start screaming even louder about hate crimes. Go figure.
Seems to me that the era of Brian preceded Islam.
I am not being argumentative just remembering a different take on the controversy at the time of it's release, early 1980s. I know that many Jewish organizations were upset and some scenes were removed.
I’m just passing along what I read in an interview with Mr. Idle.
The People’s Front of Judea/Judian People’s Front also predates such organization naming conventions.
EVERY muslim bows to the segregated (non-muslims are forbidden under penalty of death) city Mecca five times a day every day. This city (the capital of the Islamic empire) is in a nation that forbids all other religious texts and openly discriminates against non-muslims under the law (non muslims have fewer rights and protections, an offense by a non-muslim against a muslim is greater than a muslim against a non-muslim).
When will the so called moderate muslims speak out to denouce this apartheid system?
Thanks for the ping Graybeard.
