FOX News Poll: Most Americans Want Unused Stimulus Money Returned to Taxpayers

With improvements in the economy and only a fraction of the stimulus money having been spent so far, most Americans -- 72 percent -- say returning the unused portion of the $787 billion dollar stimulus to taxpayers would do more to boost the economy than having the government spend it.

Majorities of Democrats (59 percent), Republicans (87 percent) and independents (70 percent) think the money should be returned to taxpayers.

Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from August 11 to August 12. The poll has a 3-point error margin.

Rating the President and Congress The president's approval rating drops a point this month and hits a new low of 53 percent, down from 54 percent approval in July. The high-water mark for President Obama was 65 percent approval during his first week in office (27-28 January 2009). His average approval to date is 60 percent.

In addition, while a 57 percent majority says Obama's job performance is about what they expected it to be, slightly more people now say he is doing a worse job (23 percent) than say he is doing a better job than they expected (18 percent).

With the president traveling the country to discuss health care and the economy, almost half of Americans (49 percent) say they would like to see less of Obama on television, up from 36 percent who felt that way previously (3-4 March 2009).

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton outshines her boss with a 66 percent approval job rating, up from 56 percent in April.

This is proof that Americans are coming to realize what an incredible screw-up happened when Baraq Alias Obama got the nomination.

How dare those arrogant Brooks Brothers organized taxpayers!

President Obozo needs that $787 billion slush fund to stimulate green jobs!

Like the $3 billion he spent last week on electric car research.

And whatever else he wants.

Have people forgotten that when Slick Willie first took office, he wanted a massive ‘stimulus’ bill rammed through congress because of the ‘Bush recession’ he inherited? It turned out that the recession ended before Slick took office, and the stimulus package he wanted was political payoff to his supporters. Zero’s Porkulus Package is just another payoff package, not an economic stimulus.

I’m going to say something I never thought I’d utter.

I miss Der Slickmeister..

While he spoke BS often, it was HIS BS, not reading the words of someone else.
He could speak coherently, not have to read his lines.
The stumble bum in there now simply is lost without a script.

Slick had a concept of economics, was not the ideologue we have now.

The only positive of the Bamster is his enunciation.

Other than that ZerO is a dunce, period.

Not only should we get the money back, we should also; force ACORN and the Union Thugs etc to give back the political payoff money, demand criminal prosecution of both groups, and have their addresses and phone numbers published online.

Unspent(?) “Weatherization” stimulus money in the hands of non-profits.....an invitation to fraud, theft and politics as usual.

Hahahahahahaha! That is the most naive thing I've ever heard. The money is never going to come back to the taxpayer. There will always be some pork soaking it up. Congress will always be corrupt. Hussein will continue the lies.

What we DON'T want is the money to be returned (as in previous "REBATES") having re-distribution of wealth to NON-TAXPAYERS.

If you weren't screwed into paying in more taxes, YOU DON'T GET A REFUND!

Watch and see where they hand out the appropriated tax dollars to their welfare-based constituents as a "refund".

I'm a bit confused. If the stimulus money is money that hasn't been earned yet, how can it be given back? Wouldn't that be the same as each of us taking out a loan that would have to be paid back anyway? Nix the stimulus immediately. Make the government doing without, and repeal/cut taxes instead.

People will look back at this period (Nov. 2008 -Aug. 2009) as one of the most insane and bizarre in American political history, as messianic hysteria and delusions of Obammunism led to the biggest tax&spend spree in history, as an equally deluded con artist, puffed up with grandiosity and narcissistic personality disorder, picked their wallets and bankrupted the country, almost destroying the U.S. healthcare and medical system in the process. Historians will try to sort out what caused people to fall for this and why so many Americans were stuck in Stockholm Syndrome to believe it initially. The war, the economy, and the dumbing down of the public through media propaganda and a failing educational system. The true believers in the MSM still won't give up. It's time for the cult deprogrammers for them.

The money does not exist.

It simply has not yet been printed.

How do you "return" money to taxpayers when the money was not derived from taxes but was pulled out of thin air?

It is money that will be paid back by taxpayers who have not yet been born.

The word ‘taxpayer’ is being misused quite a bit. Do people want the surplus returned to the treasury, or given to them directly?

With the purchases of AIG, FNM FRE GM Chrysler etc., plus TARP, the media has intentionally described these as taxpayer purchases in an effort to make the public more supportive of the looting of the US Treasury,. The Treasury (or the Fed in the case of AIG) own part of all of those companies. Taxpayers do not own or operate the treasury.

But what specifically has Rodham DONE as SecState that anyone approves of? How many of these 66 percent could name a SINGLE accomplishment of hers as SecState?

These polls are just throwaways. We’re crazy to trust ANY poll at this point, especially the ones that show entrenched Democrats losing in places like New Jersey.

If money were to be returned, it would go back to China where it is currently coming from.

Slick was just as big a commie as Comrade Obamsky but back then the idea was to present a false flag (of moderation) to the American people. Plus, Slick had people on his payroll like Morris who weren’t commies. But Slick was all that the reds could have hoped for at that time—just as the Comrade is today.
