31 GOP Votes To Kiss Off A Constituency (Barf Alert!!)
IBD Editorials ^ | August 11, 2009 | RUBEN NAVARRETTE JR

Posted on 08/11/2009 6:21:41 PM PDT by Kaslin

During his recent HBO special, "Tall, Dark and Chicano," comedian George Lopez tore a hole in the Big Tent. Incensed that 31 Senate Republicans had voted against Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court, Lopez informed the GOP that it would never again get the votes of Latinos.

In fact, he said, given changing demographics, Republicans might as well get used to losing in the years to come because "you won't win a . . . pie-eating contest."

That's harsh, but fair. Republicans know not what they did. They're only fooling themselves if they think they won't pay a price for their petty opposition to the nation's first Latina justice.

Remember when Republicans used to say that people should take responsibility for their actions? Never mind. They didn't mean it. Not when it comes to Senate Republicans trying to dodge responsibility for voting against Sotomayor.

They might be able to stand behind their votes if they weren't afraid that they were standing on quicksand. They're terrified that Hispanics will be sore winners and take retribution at the ballot box — starting in 2010 and possibly lasting for decades.

In fact, Republicans are so desperate to avoid incurring the wrath of one of the fastest growing parts of the electorate that they've pulled a page from the Democrats' playbook.

Petty opposition? my Senator voted against her because of her horrid views on the 2nd amendment and her racist views of thinking her ethnicity should guide her lawmaking/ interpretation. Hardly petty, Tom Coburn voted exactly how any responsible senator should vote.

This is crap. A racist crap article. The Hispanics I know who vote for Republicans didn’t want Sotomayer either. The idea that an ethnic group is brain dead and monolithic driven only by ethnic allegiance even if true should be assailed as a problem not something to be given into.

This Low-pez schmuck missed a very important point.

The Latinos that won't vote for them again would have NEVER voted for them in the first place!

If there really is a free lunch, then Republicans are doomed.

McCain sucked up to them like a Hoover and it didn’t do him any good. They voted against him overwhelmingly. The vast majority of them are looking for a handout, a freebie, having been schooled in socialism in their home countries, and have figured out that’s what the Dems have to offer in exchange for obedience. What he is saying is, they’re here for what they can get, and if a political party doesn’t play that game, they won’t vote for that party. At least he’s honest.

Somebody remind this goofball what the Democrats did to the first Hispanic nominated to the Supreme Court:

Miquelo Estrada was nominated by George W Bush and the Dems trashed the man - villified him.

So Lopez, dont give me your crap about Sotomeyer and the Republicans unless you will acknowledge that the 1st Hispanic nominee was nominated by a Republican and he was rejected by the Democratic Party...

31 GOP Votes To Kiss Off A Constituency

The GOP shouldn't chase constituencies. They should be focused on winning over individual voters.

If your intent is to chase the American dream, build wealth, provide for the security and welfare of your family, and build a life for your kids that is better than what you had, you sure aren't a Democrat. Democrats believe the only entity big enough to provide all that is bigger government.

There are plenty of people out there that still believe in that. It has nothing to do with skin color, ethnicity, or any outward physical characteristic. It is a matter of character.

Dear Reuben,

Your kind has made this a country where politicians are venal little men who seek office by placating some ethnic voting block. Men with integrity don't do that. Your kind uses the privilege of the vote to blackmail & coerce bad policy because it makes you & your ilk feel powerful.

It's people like you, Reuben, who are mainly to blame for the sorry state of our Republic.

“RUBEN NAVARRETTE JR’s main occupation is being an angry minority.”

I was thinking the other day about the whole issue of ‘representation’ in government, and the rhetoric the left often uses that ‘government’ should look as diverse as America. Of course, they're talking about skin color and gender. That's really not the type of diversity that government needs. How about diversity in background and life experiences. When is that last time we had a plumber, or a farmer, or a shop owner in Congress? When’s the last time we had a President who went to a state university instead of one of the Ivy's or equivalent private universities? The point is that diversity isn't skin deep, and it certainly isn't defined by gender, but that's what we've been sold as the gold standard. How can we expect fresh thinking in government when many of those elected went to the same schools and sat in the same classrooms?

In all due respect; baloney.

How far has the GOP bent over backwards to kiss the heinies of the “Black’ and “Latino” constituencies hoping to draw their votes away from the Commiocrats? Who has been a more adamant proponent of open borders and amnesty than George W. Bush in order to placate the ‘Latinos”?

And what did it get them in the end?

What was the Black vote for the Republicans this time?
about 3%, if that much, wasn’t it? Big whoop!

How many “Hispanics” jumped the DNC ship and voted for McLame in the last election out of gratitude for all of W’s understanding and spirit of inclusion?

I’d be surprised if it was more than a dozen - if that.

Let’s face it; the Socialist Democrats have bought and paid for the largely dependent “minority” groups with money extorted from hard working Americans of all races and ethnicities, and their NEA shills have successfully indoctrinated most of them to be forever dependent on government and loyal to the commune - with the possible exception of a few who might wake up and get a glimpse of reality beyond the state trough and slave pen ghettos.

No matter how much the Republican elite try to contort themselves to win their affection, it just ain’t happinin’, folks; all they manage to do by trying to out democrat the democrats is to turn off their Conservative “Base” who they pretty much pitched out the back flap of that “big tent” into the marginal mud years ago.

If you think that they are ready for their party to make a “comeback”, just look at what they did to Ron Paul and Sarah Palin.

Dream on, America.

If Sarah Palin tries to get anywhere with the GOP again, I predict that she will be summarily thrown under the bus - again.

As long as the GOP “moderate” (Liberal lite) elite fall for this perennial Commio-Fascist lie, (as they continue to do hook, line and sinker) Commiocrats will continue to laugh all the way to the White House and Congressional majorities while the soft hearted and soft headed ‘Pubbies and America in general will keep crawling out of the ditch covered with mud with their hair on fire wondering what hit them... and whatever became of our Constitutional Republic?

Bull Puckey! A person’s heritage is NO reason to elevate them into the Supreme Court; no more than it’s a reason to keep them off the court.

I’m sick to death of these gasbag LibTards continuing to play a race card EVERY time someone of principle takes a stand against someone who is in one of their ‘victimized’ groups...gays, Latinos, blacks, Asians, whatever. The simple truth is that Sotomayor is NOT suited to be on the Supreme Court and she will quickly prove the point. Her judicial philosophy is at odds with the foundational principles of the American legal system.

It’s time to take back the country.

This is Democrap trash-talk.

Now, if they want to start a culture war, all-out, and be seen discriminating against whites and calling them names in Spanish (look up gabacho in a Spanish slang dictionary), then fine, bring it. We'll see how things shake out.

In Florida, where the Cubans vote GOP since the Bay of Pigs, and a little bit in Texas, where the GOP gets a split of the Central American and South American vote.

This is Mexican trash talk. They want to immigrate to the States and bring the PRI and PRD with them and lean on gueros and disrespect us. Uh-uh.

Lopez informed the GOP that it would never again get the votes of Latinos...I'm bettin' that at least fifty percent of the Latino population is intelligent and mature enough to want to see people on the Court who are well qualified, will decide cases based on the law and not their personal feelings and values, and don't evidence biases against members of the population who aren't just like them - but maybe Mr. Lopez whoever he is missed the Gallup poll showing that only 47% of Latinos thought Sotomayor should be confirmed........
