FEMA Announces Creation Of Children’s Working Group(FEMA.gov)

While testifying before the Senate Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Disaster Recovery today, the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate announced the creation of a “Children’s Working Group.”

The working group will allow FEMA and its partners to explore and implement planning and response strategies specific to children throughout the agency and ensure that during a disaster the unique needs of children are not only considered, but fully integrated into how FEMA administers this support to states and the public.

“It is time for special needs populations, whether children or any other segment of our communities who have traditionally been underserved, to be more fully and consistently integrated into preparedness and planning efforts at every level of government,” Administer Fugate said. “Children are a part of every community. We must understand and address their needs from the outset, recognizing that they are not simply small adults. That means not putting the considerations specific to children in a separate box, but incorporating them into our planning on the front end.”

The Children’s Working Group will be composed of FEMA employees across multiple directorates and offices to ensure coordination and action, and will report directly to the Office of the Administrator. The working group will be chaired by Tracy Wareing, counselor to Secretary Napolitano for FEMA.

Areas of focus of the Children’s Working Group will include:

•Child-specific guidance as to evacuation, sheltering, and relocation;
•Tracking and reunification of families;
•Coordinated case management supports;
•Enhanced preparedness for child care centers and schools as well as for children in child welfare and juvenile justice systems;
•Enhanced national planning, including incorporation of children into national planning scenarios and exercises; •Incorporation of children’s needs into grant guidance; •Improved recovery coordination across the federal family and with state and local partners in support of children’s education, health and housing;
•Consideration as to how the federal family can help ensure child care centers are able rebuild and restore services more quickly following a disaster, and;
•Increased public awareness efforts to educate families and protect children during disasters.

FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.

OMG This administration is not only BUSY it is CRAZY!

Mother(Secretary) Napolitano will take the children for safe keeping then return them to the real parents when all is well(HE**) So where will the parents be?? Some camp for adults? Wait I believe Hitler used this same plan during WW2! Put your thinking cap on...something stinks and has since Jan 20 2009. The "Feeley-Meeley" Feel Good Liberals are at it again making everyone believe this is "Oh so nice for our children." UGH

Everything out of these peoples’ mouths are lies. I question all their motives. I do not trust them at all.

Go to the link and be sure and read the comments, too. No one is being fooled here. This little known new program has just slid past, but is exactly what we expected. Kids in Brown Shirts are coming, trained by Obama and his nutty ACORN troops

Well that's disturbing. I wonder if there is someplace we can be reported to for mentioning this?

Little of this is new, and none of this is really all that scary. FEMA already does take care of children during disasters, and they already perform family-tracking activities. All this is saying is that children are going to be focused on as a special-needs population (just like the elderly, the disabled, and others who may need extra help).

This is absolutely not saying that parents will be separated from their children; it's simply saying that, in disaster scenarios, children have different and often greater needs than adults, and disaster planners ought to recognize that.

Frankly, this is overdue policy.

What better way to ensure compliance than to announce that “we have your children”.

I want to wake up from this dream soon. My husband had no idea why I burst into tears when the election was set in stone. Now he knows.

But mind you those were tears of anger and pure frustration. Now we know that attending their town hall meetings and showing up where they are in general makes dems crazy. Sic em folks. Sic em. And if the the brown shirts want to come after me, let them. FUBO!

I know you are trying to see good in this. But I was with the Red Cross. The Red Cross and many other organizations like it do this already for children. This new program is very much like what Obama has promised he would start with children (and has started at his Camps). I don’t trust this one bit. And I don’t think we need another govt. entity to focus on children, with all the bureaucratic do-gooders involved. Churches, community organizations, and groups like the Red Cross are doing fine. I have watched them in action. Obama and his cronies are not needed, IMHO.
