The government site cars.gov still lists 80% of the funds as being available.

But the USA Today article says they have suspended the program already!

Anybody else hear that when the feds moved the goalposts on fuel mileage so that cars that were eligible before weren't anymore so they want customers to pay back the money.

Mass confusion over how many vehicles have been sold using the clunker program, dealers not getting paid, paperwork fiascos, rules being changed and a 135 pages of rules that the dealer has to follow.

I don’t doubt a lot of dealers are SCREWED because they took vehicles in and don’t have the right paperwork, or the vehicles don’t qualify.

And these people running this program want to run our health care?

And these people running this program want to run our health care?

As a person who works hard to keep old equipment running, I find this program to be deeply offensive. The card that the government buys are destroyed by having abrasive material poured in through the engine fill, and then the engines are run at high speed until the sieze.

Somebody has been working hard to keep just this sort of thing from happening to these engines for hundreds of thousands of miles, and the governments solution is to grind them up.

Of course, they have a similar plan for health care. Want to know what really in the Red Pill?

The more I think about it the bigger disaster I realize it is. Everything from removing decent and affordable used cars from the market to the loss of jobs that are a result of the used parts market.

The program wasn't for clunkers, just older lower fuel economy vehicles.

You know, the ones that those with fewer financial resources buy. These usable vehicles were going to be deliberately made unusable, pissing more US resources down the drain.

Kinda like what's in store for Seasoned Citizens.

From the story ... "Mr. Lee says his group has accepted 100 clunker trades, and is owed $450,000 from the government, none of which had been disbursed. By his reckoning, there must be a lot of other dealers waiting for money from the government, so he's holding back from doing the trades right now. "We haven't been paid on one," Mr. Lee said." Just you wait, I'm sure the gov't will settle up with you at some point .... SUCKER!!! HA HA HA!

Did ya’ll know that they are purposely destroying the motors of these clunkers so they can NEVER be used again. Total waste. It hurts my head to think about it. No way would I sell my soul to the .gov destroyers. I could not believe it when I took in my truck to have a new motor(used) put in that this is what they are doing to these motors. Destroying them. They are NOT allowing the old motors to be resold.

I was shocked this morning when the female announcer on the local morning conservative talk-radio show announced she’d just bought a car under the cash-for-clunkers program. I was tempted to email Carleen and say, “Well, now we know how much it takes for you to sell-out your conservative principles: $4,500.”

Well, duh. The whole idea behind this program is to remove inefficient engines from the roads, for good. It may be a f*ed up deal, but it would make no sense whatsoever NOT to destroy the engines. Put them back out there and defeat the purpose of the whole thing.

I heard this tidbit this morning on our morning AM radio show. The story was actually that dealers were at risk for selling cars with the subsidy potentially unavailable.

All this program was about was another way for liberals to make you xo what they deem best for society. You see, the intent was to get auto manufacturers back to making and selling cars. But libs can’t simply provide a tax break at the corpororate level. No, they make you buy the car THEY want while ridding us all of the car they don’t want.

Someone traded in a running, no-significant-functional-problems extremely rare manual Jaguar XJS to a local Toyota dealer under the program.

I saw it only when it was on the flatbed heading for the crusher, and only because I happened to be at the dealership next door.

So the government ripped through $1 billion in taxpayer monies in less than a week in this crazy giveaway program.

I wonder how fast it will take to rip through that same billion in their crazy new medical plan? Probably about a billion between breakfast and lunch...

What a perfect illustration of how BO and the dwarfs in D.C. will run ObamaCare! On Fox, they said that the paltry $1 billion allotted for the Cash for Clunkers program only allowed for 12 clunkers per dealership. After 3 days, some dealers already had 30 cars to get rid of and weren’t at all sure that the people bringing in their old cars would get their rebate.
Way to go, Congress. What a bunch of morons.

“The more I think about it”.

I am a small Ford dealer and I didn't sign up. You wouldn't believe the interest in this program. Farmers dragging ‘89 model F150s to the lot. Unqualified customers inquiring about it. I posted before that at CURRENT SALES RATES the money would run out in a week. I may have been a little optimistic. According to the rules of the program a dealer had to poison the trade in, obtain a certificate from a certified salvage company that it had indeed been poisoned, BEFORE the government money was approved to the dealer. Assuming some dealers “killed the trade, AND ASSUMING THE CUSTOMER BOUGHT THE CAR SUBJECT TO GOVT. APPROVAL, I wonder how many dealers are going to say “sorry we didn't get the money, our deal is off, and by the way, I've poisoned your car!!Look for the crybabies to get MORE OF OUR TAX MONEY APPROVED FOR THIS DEBACLE. This country is INDEED being governed by the stupidest people in, maybe, the history of the world.

Re changing mileage, my grandson who is in college has a really old car that avgs about 14-15 mpg but it was cheap to buy and insure and good enuf for him for a while. I checked the govt chart on Sunday and it said 16 mpg so his was eligible. When he went to look at new cars on Tuesday, chart had been changed to show 20 mpg and so not eligible. I’ve been around too long to fall for something like this. If it sounds too good to be true, it is!

That "clunker" probably "fell off" the ramp truck somewhere along the way. People in the used car industry are too clever to let that kind of opportunity go by.

Kind of like the guy I met once who ran a business gathering up old parts that were removed at dealerships. You know, catalytic convertors, rebuildable cores, airbags, etc. that somehow ended up in the trunks of the mechanics cars, or in some guys garage, or whatever.

I wondered from the beginning how anyone was going to actually verify the clunkers were destroyed. I mean, how hard do you think it would be to get a junk yard guy to "work with you" when there's $4500 on the table?

Even if we act like liberals and assume everyone's honest here...is it even feasible that 220,000 additional cars were destroyed in LESS THAN A WEEK?!
