Gates case shocker - Woman who called Cambridge Police says she never referred to intruders as black

The 40-year-old woman whose emergency call to Cambridge police sparked the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and a raging national debate on race relations claims she never said “black” men were breaking into his house.

“This woman is 100 percent clear on what she said,” said attorney Wendy J. Murphy, who is representing 911 caller Lucia Whalen. “She never said she saw two black men. She said, ‘It never crossed my mind that there were two black men.’ ”

In fact, Whalen, who wants the world to know she is not a racist, isn’t even white - as had been widely reported - but has “olive-colored skin and is of Portuguese descent,” Murphy said.

I’m usually opposed to releasing 911 tapes because they’re usually little more than media porn. However in this case it’s relevant and should be released ASAP.

Geez and I would think referring to the tone or color of someones skin would actually help in the ID process.

Let me get this straight: two men are assaulting an elderly women witnessed by a neighbor, the neighbor calls 911. The operator asks for description and the response is...”I am sorry I cant give you that information because I don't want to be accused of being a racist.” oh wait they are white so OK they are 2 white men with tattoos.

That evil media trying to paint her as a racist by describing her as white, because we all know olive-colored skin people lack the capacity of racism. I know whenever I get a tan I always act less racist on a daily basis compared to when I have whiter skin.
