Had Americans been able to stop obsessing over the color of Barack Obama's skin and instead paid more attention to his cultural identity, maybe he would not be in the White House today. The key to understanding him lies with his identification with his father, and his adoption of a cultural and political mindset rooted in postcolonial Africa.
David Canter (1923-2004) was the son of Harry Jacob Canter, a lifelong communist who: served as secretary of the Boston Communist Party; ran for governor of Massachusetts on the Communist Party ticket in 1930; earned a special invitation to Joseph Stalin’s USSR in 1932; worked in Moscow as an official translator of Lenin’s writings; and later taught at the Abraham Lincoln School, an infamous Chicago-based front that indoctrinated students in the teachings of Marx and Lenin. Like his father, David Canter was also a lifelong communist. He was educated in Stalin’s Soviet Union from 1932-37, before returning with his family to the United States. He later became an attorney and developed ties to the National Lawyers Guild. In the Guide to Subversive Organizations and Publications, an exhaustive Congressional analysis compiled between 1955 and 1968, Canter’s name appeared 25 times. On July 12, 1962, Canter was subpoenaed to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC), where he was questioned about the agendas of Translation World Publishers, the pro-Soviet, Soviet-subsidized publishing house he had co-created with LeRoy Wolins, a well-known communist. Canter refused to answer any HUAC questions about his past or present membership in the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). Canter’s associate, Don Rose (who is still alive), was never proven to be a CPUSA member. He was, however, a member of the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam, an organization replete with communists and Sixties radicals. He also belonged to the Alliance to End Repression (a suspected Communist Party front), and he did some press work for the Students for a Democratic Society. In the 1960s, Rose and Canter collaborated to establish a far-left, pro-communist community newspaper called Hyde Park-Kenwood Voices, which echoed CPUSA propaganda. Soon after meeting Axelrod, Canter and Rose became mentors to the young man and helped shape his political development.

He was Percy Sutton’s and Vernon Jarrett’s friend who solicited help for Barry’s admission to Harvard Law, according to Percy Sutton. Sutton’s 2008 description of Al Mansour’s request for help from Percy remains, amazingly enough with all the scrubbing of YouTube and Google archives we have seen. Sutton, a remarkable Texas-born attorney, who flew for the Army Air Corp’s black battalion, was formerly the President of the Manhattan Borough, attorney to Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan, Muslim Brotherhood, Charles Rangel, and many other powerful black figures.
Mansour used to lecture on the need to kill white men regularly on his weekly radio program from Oakland California during his sojourn as a law student at U.C.’s Boalt Hall. He seemed even more concerned of the need to kill white women and their babies because they were the source of the future solders of the white devils. Al Mansour was simply expressing, entirely consistent with the Quran, of the need to convert or kill infidels; most white people are infidels. At the time al Mansour was also helping to found the Black Panthers, and was known by his birth name, Don Warden. After law school he opened his first law office in San Francisco under his Wahhabi name, Khalid al Mansour with his partner, Alwaleed bin-Talal, who was not a lawyer, but had attended Menlo College, a small private college in tony Atherton California at the time Warden was attending Boalt.
Bin-Talal now controls over 95% of Saudi Investments, including the largest external (not Murdoch family) block of News Corp, which owns Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, many other publishing interests. He also has major investments is Cisco, Citibank, Twitter, GE, etc. etc. (Why else would those, including many Republican politicians, discourage domestic development, including Keystone, and pump fictional replacements such as solar and wind power?
These are simply facts, easily confirmed by listening to Warden/al Mansour’s YouTube lectures spanning at least 30 years, and to Percy’s interview on New York public service television. By searching a bit you can read Vernon Jarrett (yes, Valarie’s father-in-law) writing in the Chicago Tribune about al-Mansour’s venture to spend twenty million dollars each year to “educate†minority U.S. citizens. This article was first published in 1979, just as Barry was beginning at Occidental.
The first 20 million dollar contribution from Bin-Talal was made in about 1985, not too far from Barry’s application to Harvard Law. The acknowledgement of the donation was on the Harvard web site until about 2009. It didn’t, that this author recalls, cite Harvard Law as the recipient, but the AL Waleed bin-Talal Center for Islamic Study became the most prominent division of Harvard Divinity School for several years before it was quietly depreciated. Bin Talal has since opened similar operations at Georgetown, American University, Cambridge, and probably more. These donations and centers are not illegal, but they are clearly to buy influence. Decide for yourselves if Muslim Brotherhood-influenced education will make us a better Judeo-Christian society?
Al-Mansour has been one of Alwaleed’s principal legal tools for over 40 years, and converted to Wahhabi Islam in the 1950s (much earlier than our CIA Director, John Brennan, who converted in the late 90s, according to retired Commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral James Lyons). This suggests that Barry has been a project since his talents were recognized by Frank Marshall Davis, Jarrett’s one time publishing partner of the Communist paper from Chicago, and before Jarrett ended up at the Chicago Tribune. The media are just now discovering the Black Nationalist movement of “Reverend†Wright, Jarrett, Marshall Davis, and skillfully inspired, if not instigated, by the KGB. Marshal Davis who was a card carrying communist like many among the black intelligentsia.

Saudi donates $20m to Harvard
Money will fund Islamic studies

A Saudi Arabian prince who is one of the world’s richest people is giving $20 million to Harvard to establish a university-wide program in Islamic studies, Harvard officials said yesterday.
Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, whose net worth was estimated by Forbes magazine this year as $23.7 billion, is also donating $20 million to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., to promote Muslim-Christian dialogue and understanding.
The Harvard gift, which officials said was one of the 25 largest in the university’s history, will pay for four new senior professors, one of whom will hold an endowed chair named for Prince Alwaleed. It will also provide start-up funding for a project to preserve and digitize significant Islamic documents that are in Harvard’s possession and make them available on the Internet.
‘’We are very grateful to Prince Alwaleed for his generous gift to Harvard,” university president Lawrence H. Summers said in a statement announcing the gift. ‘’This program will enable us to recruit additional faculty of the highest caliber, adding to our strong team of professors who are focusing on this important area of scholarship.”
In the statement, Alwaleed said ‘’I am pleased to support Islamic studies at Harvard, and I hope that this program will enable generations of students and scholars to gain a thorough understanding of Islam and its role both in the past and in today’s world. Bridging the understanding between East and West is important for peace and tolerance.”
The gift to Georgetown will be used to expand its existing Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. In addition to his donations to American universities for Islamic studies, Alwaleed is backing the development of American studies centers at universities in Cairo and Beirut.
Alwaleed, who is in his late 40s, is a professional investor who has made billions buying into blue-chip companies while they were in trouble and their stock prices were depressed. A $590 million purchase of Citicorp stock in 1991, now valued at around $10 billion, is the cornerstone of his fortune.
After the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, in which 15 of the 19 attackers were Saudis, Alwaleed tried to donate $10 million to the Twin Towers Fund for victims. Former New York City mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani rejected the gift because of an accompanying press release in which Alwaleed urged the United States to reexamine its Middle East policies ‘’and adopt a more balanced stance toward the Palestinian cause.”
Gifts to Harvard from wealthy Arabs also have been controversial in the post-9/11 environment.
Donations during the 1990s to the schools of law and design from relatives of Osama bin Laden were criticized after 9/11. But the money had no known ties to bin Laden or terrorism, and Harvard kept the gifts. Last year, Harvard Divinity School returned a $2.5 million gift from the president of the United Arab Emirates because of the president’s ties to an Arab League think tank with alleged anti-American and anti-Jewish leanings.
But problems with the Alwaleed donation do not seem probable. The prince, who is a nephew of Saudi King Abdullah, is widely known for his pro-American views and for his major investments in the United States.
Donella Rapier, Harvard’s vice president for alumni affairs and development, said last night that the donation had been reviewed by the Harvard Corporation, the seven-member board that runs the university.
Officials said they could not determine last night where the gift ranked among all donations to Harvard.
Rapier said Harvard has 13 senior faculty and 29 junior faculty and visiting scholars in various areas of Islamic studies, including faculty in Near Eastern languages, a program at the law school, and several programs at the school of government. The university, which does not have a separate Islamic studies department, said it has the largest group of Islamic specialists in the English-speaking world.
New faculty funded through the prince’s gift will also be located in a variety of departments, rather than in an Islamic studies department, Rapier said. ‘’They will interrelate through this program,” she said.
Steven E. Hyman, the university provost, added in the statement, ‘’For a university with global aspirations, it is critical that Harvard have a strong program on Islam that is worldwide and interdisciplinary in scope.”
Alwaleed received a bachelor’s degree from Menlo College, near Palo Alto, Calif., and a master’s degree from Syracuse University...

In August I received a curious email. As a magazine that covers international politics, with a focus on Mideast affairs, Israel Insider gets more from its fair share of baseless tips and phony rumors. I ignore most and delete them unread. This one was a bit different. It came from a national security lawyer with extensive credentials and intelligence connections that checked out, and a phone number.
Israel Insider had been running a series of articles exploring the vagaries of Barack Obama’s birth, and his concealed documentation, and this was the jumping off point of the email, which confirmed the claim that Obama was not born in Hawaii, that “Mossad are going with Mombasa” but “Proving Mombasa is not so easy, as NSIS in Nairobi are clamming up tight, as are MI6 in London, who have the original Mombasa file and full details of the birth.”
He said that “Disproving Honolulu is child’s play. You’ve already shown that the birth certificate put forward by Obama (whose people privately are not denying Mombasa, by the way) is a fake. Why fake it? If he was born in Honolulu he could obtain a genuine one. Hawaii Dept of Health would hardly denounce a potential presidential candidate’s birth certificate as fraudulent without cross-checking birth records for August 1961. No birth was registered in the name of Obama in Honolulu in August 1961.”
(This last detail may explain why Hawaiian officials last Friday confirmed that a birth certificate does indeed exist but conspicuously refused to release any details or even confirm that the details conform to those on the computer-generated Certification of Live Birth. The name on the “original” certificate may in fact not be Obama nor the birthplace Honolulu. But Obama’s recent visit “to his grandmother” may well have had less to do with her health than eliciting this vague and inconclusive statement from the Hawaiian Health Department.)
The source continues: “There is no evidence Ann Dunham had even met Obama Senior in or around November 1960, the alleged time of conception, indeed it is not even clear Obama was in Honolulu at that time, although he may have been. Ann Dunham was only 17 and although she might have been in Honolulu the timing is tight.” “More to the point, she was in neither of the medical centers put forward by the Obama campaign (question: why do they not know in which hospital he was born?) on August 4th, nor are there medical records to back up the claimed birth, nor has an attending physician been named. I’ve heard of births with the father absent, births with the mother absent a bit trickier.”
“There are said to be photos of Ann Dunham on Waikiki Beach taken in or about July 1961, when she is supposed to have been in her third trimester, in a bikini, taken by a fellow female student. AD is clearly not pregnant. Media have not yet talked to fellow students, but it can’t be long. There are bound to be other photos of AD in existence taken during the alleged 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Obama campaign are terrified some one will press for her medical records, which have been accessed by CIA.”
“Moving to Indonesia the Obama campaign are also suppressing the Indonesian immigration and passport records, which I believe show him as a Kenyan citizen, and the naturalisation records. They have not denied Internet claims he was naturalised in Indonesia. If he was a US citizen there should be a visa record to back that up.”
“Obama Senior was murdered in Kenya in 1982 to silence him. Interesting story re his sister Auma as well — she appears to be a full sister, not a half-sister as he is claiming, i.e. they share the same mother. She was ordered back to Kenya in 2007 to prevent DNA testing .... CIA did a DNA test on the grandparents, using saliva from glasses, which conclusively rules out any relationship between Obama and the Dunhams.”
“The source said that the Dunham family became involved because Stanley Dunham, Sr. was suspected of espionage. Boeing, he said, has “a 1944 security file on Stanley Dunham in connection with suspected sabotage of B-17G aircraft at their Wichita Kansas plant and the theft of B-29 blueprints, a full set of which were passed to the German Abwehr via Lisbon by June 1944. Ann Dunham appears to have been chosen as the surrogate mother in 1963 because of the family connection to German Intelligence. German assets in the US, including Rezko, who is connected to the Syrian Mukhabarat and the German DVD, sponsored his career.
“Effectively,” the source concludes, “Obama is a German sleeper agent.”
Well, this is a lot to take in, and on first reading it struck me that the source had been reading too many Le Carre novels or Bond movies. I mean, really: “The Manchurian Candidate” meets “The Boy from Mombassa”?
It seemed completely preposterous, and indeed I initially dismissed it as preposterous. Obama a “German sleeper agent”? Of course, in those days the East Germans were a Soviet satellite, and the DDR was perhaps the most feared and ideological of the communist states, with more than a sprinkling of rehabilitated Nazis uncured of their genetic fantasies and experiments. 1961-1963 were the peak years of the Cold War, with Berlin playing a central role in East-West hostilities.
But what made no sense to me was why anyone in the spy business, or anyone in East Germany for that matter, would give a damn to find a foster parent for a newborn illegitimate offspring of mixed black-white parentage. What made him so special that the Syrians and the German would go to all the trouble or see some potential in grooming him? What could possibly make intelligence agencies groom from infancy a sleeper agent.
The source didn’t answer this, nor could I, over the succeeding months of the campaign. We exchanged a few more emails, but the nagging question of “why” anyone would bother with this baby would not leave me. What did come out in the ensuing weeks, however, was a litany of unexplained facts in Obama’s youthful history, of help from strangers in high places all along the way, benefactors who had either Arab-Muslim or Communist-Social connections. There was his Islamic education in Indonesia. There was the fact that in Hawaii the boy was tutored in the ways of revolution by leading black activists, Muslim activists, and Communist activists. Influentia black nationalist and Communist Frank Marshall Davis would become a huge influence in the young Obama’s life.
But things really got strange with the revelation that Khalid al-Mansour, close adviser to a Saudi billionaire and royal family helped Obama get into Harvard Law School (and reportedly Columbia before that) and financed his education and advancement.
It was al-Mansour who asked Percy Sutton, a high profile black lawyer active in the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s, to help Obama get into Harvard. Sutton described Mansour as “the principal adviser to one of the worldÂ’s richest men. He told me about Obama and asked him to “write a letter in support of Obama’s application to Harvard Law School, Sutton recalled. “”And his introduction was there is a young man that has applied to Harvard. I know that you have a few friends up there because you used to go up there to speak. Would you please write a letter in support of him?” Sutton obliged:“”I wrote a letter of support of him to my friends at Harvard, saying to them I thought there was a genius that was going to be available and I certainly hoped they would treat him kindly.”
How in the world would Percy Sutton know that Obama, a young man he had never met, was a “genius”? It turns out that Sutton was among the lawyers for Malcolm X.
And why would a big wheel like al-Mansour take such an interest in a drug-taking party boy from a second-rate college? While helping Obama get into Harvard, he was representing top members of the Saudi Royal family, Saudi billionaires Abdul Aziz and Khalid al-Ibrahim, and Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, nephew if King Abdallah of Saudi Arabia. So there was, early on, a direct connection between Obama and Saudi royalty and an aggressive effort by a Saudi agent to make Obama’s way in the world.
It was this connection to Saudi wealth that has led to Obama being dubbed the “Mansourian candidate”.
Then there were the revelations about Weather Underground co-founder Bill Ayers and his wife Bernadette Dohrn — unrepentant terrorists and communists both — who helped launch Obama’s political career from their home. Ayers, indeed, may well have ghost-written Obama’s memoir Dreams from my Father, creating the impression that Obama was also skilled in writing as well as “community organizing.”
More substantially, there was Antoin “Tony” Rezko, the Syrian born real estate wheeler-dealer and convicted racketeer, who helped Obama raise his first campaign funds and assisted him financially.
There were influential Palestinian scholars and propagandists Rashid Khalidi and Edward Said, colleagues and personal friends of Obama, despite his unconvincing efforts to distance himself from them and squelch his praise for their anti-Israel ideologies.
There was Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s spiritual mentor, who conducted his marriage, baptized their children, and gave Obama’s campaign manifesto “Audacity of Hope” its title before being distanced (at least for the duration of the campaign) when their close twenty year relationship came to light.
And, of course, there is neighbor Louis Farrakhan, current leader of the Nation of Islam, who recently spoke of Obama as the “Messiah” and — as a report from Ken Timmerman, citing an insider, today confirms — enjoys an “open channel” of communication with him.
Why did all of these important scholars and ideologues, fundraiser and networkers, these millionaires and billionaires – especially from the Arab and Islamic world, and extreme socialist and communist party activists — reach out to help this unknown, undereducated young man, many before Obama was anybody of known importance? Was it just that he was tall and handsome and bright, with a silver tongue?
Or was there some other factor – a genetic factor, a secret legacy of heredity — that mysteriously opened the doors and wallets and elicited the kindness of strangers?
Last week, a long and rambling post attributed to one Rudy Schultz was made to the Atlas Shrugs blog of Pamela Geller. The starting point for the post was revelation of school records that show that the supposed mother of Barack Obama enrolled in the University of Washington just a few weeks after her son was purportedly born in Hawaii. But the intention of the poster was apparently to imply that Obama’s father was unlikely to have been Barack Hussein Obama, Senior (photo at left).
The post provides photos and a video of Malcolm X, with a notation that he and Obama had the same height (6’2-6’-3”) and striking physical resemblances: identical hairline, jawline, and other distinctive facial features, similarities not shared by Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. or other members of the Luo tribe bloodline.
The post noted striking similarities in speaking cadence and style, not to mention a bright flashing smile and a wry sense of humor. The man born in Nebraska as Malcolm Little also was a light shade of brown, the product of a mother from Grenada who, he said, “looked like a white woman” and a black father.

The post also traced the path of Malcolm X in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, a journey that took him to Africa and the young leadership circle to which Barack Hussein Obama Sr. also belonged, including the activist Tom Mboya who was behind the program which airlifted, with US funding, young African leaders to Hawaii to study at the university, a cohort to which Obama senior belonged.
But Schultz concludes his post by pulling his punches a bit: “While Malcolm X may not be Obama’s biological father, Malcolm X is demonstrably Barack Hussein Obama’s philosophical father, and the lineage is undeniable! Obama Jr. was sired in the social soup stirred by Malcolm X.”
While Schultz backed away from claiming that Obama’s biological father may in fact be Malcolm X, the hereditary claim cannot be discounted. If he was indeed the illegitimate offspring of Malcolm – the closest that one can get to “royalty” in the messianic broth of black radical Islamic and Communistic politics – that would explain the otherwise inexplicable:
why this “illegitimate” baby, and later this young man – a druggie and underachiever — would have had paved for him the royal road to privilege and power, paid for his Ivy League education, got him jobs and a home, raised millions of dollars for his political career, got him selected to address the DNC in 2004, got him into the senate in 2006, and led him straight to where he is today, just two years hence, on the verge of the US presidency, powered by hundreds of millions of untraceable overseas contributions.
In the minds of the leftist and Islamic leaders, he is the heir to the throne of “freedom fighters”, the revolutionary prodigal son – heir to legacy of black powers and black Islam — come home to rule.
Nothing short of a DNA test is going to prove who Obama Jr.’s father really is, or, indeed who is real mother is, or is not. His long-suppressed birth certificate, which he wrote about possessing in Dreams from my Father and which Hawaii now admits is on file, could help solve the mystery.
No one to my knowledge has explored the possibility that Stanley Ann may not be the birth-mother. That would explain the lack of hospital records in Honolulu and the fact that no one can remember seeing her pregnant. Suddenly she just appeared in Washington state with a little baby boy.
There is, too, a curious comment that Stanley Ann Dunham reportedly made after high school, remembered by a friend, that “I don’t need to get married or date to have a baby.” And the fact that in June 1960 her family – who were reportedly highly sympathetic with left-wing causes — suddenly left Washington state for Hawaii, where they continued to be involved with socialist-communist causes and personalities, such as Frank Marshall Davis (identified by Obama only as “Frank” in Obama’s Dreams from my Father), who proved so influential in his upbringing.
There is also new information, published in Atlas Shrugs and confirmed elsewhere, from the University of Hawaii that she was only enrolled only in the fall of 1960, and that from the Fall of 1961 (weeks after Barack Jr. was reportedly born) and through the following spring, she was enrolled at the University of Washington.
There is the fact that she abandoned this baby on repeated occasions, and the fact that Obama returned the favored when he refused to visit her as she sickened and died. If she was merely his foster mother, then she was just a means to an end, to be discarded when she had outlived her usefulness.

Malcolm broke with Elijah Muhammad in large measure because the then-leader of the Nation of Islam had conducted illicit affairs and sired illegitimate children. If Malcolm himself had sired a boy, it is not something he would have wanted to advertise, or to bring along with him in his hectic and dangerous revolutionary path. But he may well have arranged to give the boy a first-class upbringing and education, free from the burden of his own violent legacy, his history as a convicted felon, his likely fate as a martyr, to realize the legacy he never could. He knew he was “a walking dead man,” marked for death — how could he perpetuate his principles beyond the grave?
Malcolm X was marginalized even from the black leadership after he said, following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, that the “chickens had come home to roost.” That term would be resurrected by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, much to Obama’s chagrin, in a sermon discussing the reasons for the Islamic attacks on the United States, reasons that Obama echoed in his own post-9/11 statements, in somewhat less inflammatory terms.
Malcolm himself was assassinated in 1965, reportedly by agents from the Nation of Islam.
If indeed Obama is not just Malcolm’s spiritual son but his biological one as well, it would represent the realization of a lifelong preparation to seize power, not by guns but by genes, and the genius of Obama’s handlers, mentors and assistants along the way who prepared his path to power.
According to this scenario, the sleeper agent is now wide awake, although it is also conceivable that Obama himself may not be fully aware of the role he was programmed to play. Nor is it clear who has supplanted his initial handlers — which my source identified as East German and Syrian — although the Saudis and their allies, including those within the US government and not just the Democratic side of the aisle, clearly seem implicated with pulling some of the strings and pouring some of the huge funding that has brought him to where he is today.
Those who have helped him reach to the threshold of power — some knowingly and some “useful idiots” — have been working in concert to fulfill the revolutionary goals of Malcolm’s by putting his boy in power, using the system to destroy the system. Early voting. ACORN. Untraceable online funds. Brilliant. But that, of course, is just the means to the end.
Barack Obama wrote, in Dreams from My Father, of the huge impact this black revolutionary hero’s memoir had on him, as none others did: “Only Malcolm X’s autobiography seemed to offer something different. His repeated acts of self-creation spoke to me.” Self-creation indeed.
If Malcolm X secretly sired Barack Obama, then the title Dreams from My Father would indeed take on a whole new meaning, with Obama Sr. revealed as a kind of paternal proxy, a stand-in for a revolutionary of a higher spiritual and political order whose identity the self-creating son could never reveal if his own ambitions, and his real father’s ambitions for him, were to be realized.
In 1964, the year before his death, Malcolm gave an address, “Ballots or Bullets” (audio available here) in which he urged African Americans to turn away from violence and create revolutionary change through the US electoral system.
If the O is in fact an X, and wins the red, white and blue tic-tac-toe on Tuesday to become the President and Command in Chief of the United States then, truly, America’s chickens will have come home to roost.
Red States may soon take on a whole new meaning.

But no. So I guess social media really was too new, but it’s finally catching up with it!
Well, Donald Trump, long time habitual twitterer, is a birther from waaaaaay back. Remember, he and Jerome Corsi are the two who pushed hard enough to get Obama to pay an incompetent graphic artist on the cheap to forge him a birth certificate, who did such a half-assed job, it was easily proven a fraud.
Even I knew right away it had been constructed in layers, because it loaded on the screen in back-to-front layers, rather than top-to-bottom rastering, so it was not a scanned “true copy”. And then came this article certifying there is and was never, any Hawaiian birth certificate on record.

The Chicago Crew
DURING THIS post–World War II period, when his Communist agitation was at its peak, Frank Marshall Davis became involved in seemingly every Communist front in Chicago—and there were plenty of them.
Among them was the Abraham Lincoln School, located on the top floor of a building in the heart of Chicago’s Loop. Davis first hooked up with the school in 1944, the same year Congress correctly listed it as “Communist.” Run by well-known Party members like Davis’ good friend William L. Patterson, the school was notorious for its Marxist instruction. The Chicago Tribune labeled it the “little Red school house.” Davis taught a history of jazz course there. More than that, he served on the board of directors.
Davis was also intimately familiar with the Citizens’ Committee to Aid Packing-House Workers. A surviving April 12, a member and among the small group of journalistically inclined individuals who comprised the group’s publicity committee. Joining him in both capacities was Vernon Jarrett.
Jarrett would become a major name in Chicago and known nationally. He wrote syndicated columns for the Chicago Tribune before joining the Chicago Sun-Times, on whose editorial board he later served. When Jarrett died in May 2004, he was hailed in a Washington Post obit titled “Vernon Jarrett, 84; Journalist, Crusader.”
The Post’s tribute neglected to note that in his youth Jarrett was elected to the Illinois Council of American Youth for Democracy, the CPUSA youth wing, at the group’s 1946 national convention. He also wrote for the left-wing Chicago Defender. In any or all of those capacities, Jarrett would have met Frank Marshall Davis.
In April 1948, Jarrett and Davis put their minds together for the Packing-House Committee and their pens to joint service defending Chicago’s oppressed proletariat. “The duty of this Committee,” declared their statement “is to give publicity to…the plight of the workers.”
Today, their political heirs put their minds to joint service at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In 1983, Jarrett’s son, Dr. William Robert Jarrett, married a young woman named Valerie Bowman. Valerie Bowman became Valerie Jarrett, who today is Barack Obama’s top adviser. (See my profile of her, “Letting Obama Be Obama,” TAS, July/August 2011.)
If that’s not eerie enough, there is another connection between Valerie Jarrett’s and Obama’s political ancestors. His name was Robert R. Taylor, and Davis worked with him at a CPUSA/ Comintern “antiwar” rally in Chicago in November 1940. The group behind the rally was the hideous American Peace Mobilization, later described by Congress as “one of the most seditious organizations which ever operated in the United States.” This “instrument of the Communist Party line” was “one of the most notorious and blatantly Communist fronts ever organized in this country.” The goal of the American Peace Mobilization was to keep the U.S. out of World War II, because, at the time, Hitler was allied with Stalin via the Hitler-Stalin pact. And so, the good comrades at CPUSA saluted the red flag. Davis and Taylor worked together on an event billed as “Negroes and National Defense.”
Robert Taylor was the first African American head of the Chicago Housing Authority. He also appears in the major 1944 congressional report “Investigation of Un-American Propaganda Activities in the United States.”
Taylor was the maternal grandfather of Valerie Jarrett.
The Canter Family—and David Axelrod
COLLABORATING WITH Barack Obama and Valerie Jarrett at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is David Axelrod, who, in another bizarre twist of political fate, likewise has roots in this same Chicago crowd and period. (See my profile, “David Axelrod, Lefty Lumberjack,” TAS, March 2012.)
Architect of Obama’s “hope and change” message and presidential campaigns, Axelrod is a native New Yorker who, like Obama and Frank Marshall Davis, found his political and professional calling in Chicago. In the 1970s, while Obama was being mentored in Hawaii by Davis, Axelrod was being mentored in Chicago by people with connections back to that same Chicago crew.
Axelrod had enrolled at the University of Chicago in the fall of 1972, majoring in political science and writing for the student newspaper. He soon secured a nice job as a very young political columnist for the Hyde Park Herald. Through his work at the Herald, Axelrod met David Canter and Don Rose. Canter and Rose mentored Axelrod and helped set him on a path that led to Barack Obama and the White House.
David Canter was the son of Harry Jacob Canter. Harry had been secretary of the Boston Communist Party. In 1930, he ran for governor of Massachusetts on the Communish Party ticket. Harry was so progressive that in 1932 he received a special invitation to Stalin’s USSR, which he eagerly accepted, bringing along his entire family. Fluet in Russian, he taught printing techniques to the Bolsheviks, translating major volumes of Lenin’s writings.
In 1937, Harry and family suddenly left Moscow and landed in Chicago. Close to Harry not just biologically but ideologically was his son, David Simon Canter, born in Boston in 1923, and nurtured in the USSR under Stalin’s collectivization, mass wealth redistribution, and five-year plans.
Like Axelrod, whom he would mentor, David Canter attended the University of Chicago, writing for the college newspaper and other publications. He eventually edited the Packinghouse Workers Union newsletter.
David’s surviving son, Marc, recalls “all sorts of wild memories of being the son of one of the organizers of the meatpackers union. Don’t get me started!” David Canter’s politics, like his father’s, became especially bold—and pro-Soviet. He was eventually subpoenaed to testify before the Democrat-run House Committee on Un-American Activities, where he refused to answer any questions about past or present membership in the Communist Party.
The committee was especially interested in an operation called Translation World Publishers. The committee had evidence that “the Soviet Government advanced to Translation World Publishers…the sum of $2,400” for a specific set of books to be produced.
The committee concluded that Translation World Publishers was “an outlet for the distribution of Soviet propaganda,” was “subsidized by Soviet funds and was created by known Communists to serve the propaganda interests of the USSR.” Canter, according to the committee, had thereby failed to comply with the provisions of the Foreign Agents Registration Act. To clarify: This is the same Canter who directly mentored David Axelrod.
Frank Marshall Davis would have met the Canters in any number of functions. At the Abraham Lincoln School, Harry taught the Monday evening class, 8:45–10:15 p.m., titled “Wartime Trade Union Problems.” Further, the Canter family was very Much acquainted with and appeared in Davis’ Chicago Star.
To cite a couple of examples, Harry Canter is listed in the April 28, 1947, edition, wishing “May Day Greetings” along with other “Friends” of the Star. The May 15, 1948, “Inside Labor” column spotlighted Canter, who was a candidate for delegate to the International Typographical Union’s 90th convention, as a “leader in the fight against the Taft-Hartley Act” who “calls himself a ‘non-partisan Independent-Progressive.’” That would be a progressive who happened to have run CPUSA in Boston and worked in Moscow as a Soviet translator and editor.
Davis eventually sold his Chicago Star in 1948 to something called the Progressive Publishing Company. A look at the officers and stockholders for the company revealed the usual suspects, including Harry Canter, secretary of the four-man board of directors.
Again, the overlapping orbits are fascinating. The ghosts of Chicago’s frightening political past are alive and well in Washington today.
Davis Called to Testify
WHEN FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS sold the Star in 1948, he suddenly made his way to Hawaii, a move almost certainly dictated by the Party. There, as his declassified 600-page FBI file shows, his bread would be buttered by Harry Bridges’ Communist- controlled International Longshore and Warehouse Union. The ILWU bankrolled a Communist newspaper called the Honolulu Record, for which Davis immediately began writing a regular column that lasted through 1957. Those columns picked up where Davis left off at the Star, with the same incendiary pro-Soviet themes and Party agitprop.
It is no surprise that these columns at the Honolulu Record, on top of everything Davis had written for the Star and elsewhere, were read not so much by Joe Sixpack but by the boys in Washington. The Democrats running the committees at the U.S. Capitol wanted to talk to Davis. Things reached a critical mass in late 1956, when Davis was summoned to Washington to testify on a decade and a half of work and association with Communists, Communist fronts, and Communist causes.
Liberals today—including the leading Obama biographers— try to portray Frank Marshall Davis as a benign civil rights fighter who was an unfair victim of McCarthyism, of ol’ Tail Gunner Joe and his rapid Republican smear-mongers. To the contrary, Davis did not deal with Joe McCarthy; it was Democrats, especially those on the Senate Judiciary Committee, who pursued him and his friends. Democrats who controlled the U.S. Senate included intense anti-Communists like John F. Kennedy (D-Mass.), Pat McCarran (D-Nev.), and, among others, Thomas Dodd (D-Conn.), father of recent Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.). Most ironic, the Republican who questioned Davis was Utah Senator Arthur Watkins, the nation’s top anti-McCarthyite. It was Watkins who was the namesake of the 1954 Watkins Committee, the special Senate committee that censured Joe McCarthy.
In other words, Davis was hardly being questioned by McCarthyites.
Interestingly, though the Democrats targeted Davis, and he them, in the end, Davis would seek to blend in among them. After all of his blistering attacks on their party, Frank Marshall Davis hopped in bed with the Democrats—but only to use them, just as he and fellow Communists had long exploited the “progressive” label. With Henry Wallace’s Progressive Party having collapsed, Hawaii’s Reds changed their tactics. They went underground and concentrated instead on infiltrating the Democratic Party, even running their members in local elections to seize delegate positions. One of those who not only urged this tactic but was himself elected to a Democratic precinct was Frank Marshall Davis.
For America’s Reds, it was the start of a long march to operate within the Democratic Party, transforming it from the party of Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy to the party of Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.
When Davis Met Obama
ALAS, IT WAS IN HAWAII that Frank Marshall Davis eventually influenced Barack Obama, beginning in 1970 and continuing throughout Obama’s adolescence. It was Obama’s maternal grandfather, Stanley Dunham, who introduced the pair, seeking in Davis the father figure and role model that Obama lacked at home.
That initial introduction was witnessed by a woman named Dawna Weatherly-Williams, a friend and nextdoor neighbor to Davis, so close that she called him “Daddy.” It had been eagerly anticipated by all sides, suggesting the potential that Davis rightly saw in Barack. “Frank was also a great listener, which may be why Barack liked him, too,” Weatherly-Williams told Obama biographer David Remnick. “I am sure he influenced Barack more than Barack is saying. About social justice, about finding out more about life, about what’s important, about how to use your heart and your mind.”
Davis already knew Stanley Dunham. “He knew Stan real well,” Weatherly-Williams told Toby Harnden of the London Telegraph. “They’d play Scrabble and drink and crack jokes and argue. Frank always won and he was always very braggadocio about it too. It was all jocular. They didn’t get polluted drunk. And Frank never really did drugs, though he and Stan would smoke pot together.”
Here we see the distinctly non-Rockwellian upbringing of the young Obama, which, reportedly, featured two elderly male influences smoking pot while they received Social Security and advocated socialism and Communism.
Weatherly-Williams informed the Telegraph that Davis was introduced to Obama “in 1970,” and Harnden wrote that the young Obama spent the previous three years in Indonesia with his mother and her second husband, Lolo Soetoro. If this timeline is accurate, which it appears to be, then Obama knew Frank Marshall Davis not merely for a few years but a full decade—i.e., throughout the entirety of his adolescence.

Tracing Obama Snr’s steps as a student at Maseno School

The old pieces of paper lie inside a small safe at the Maseno National School’s administration block. Tucked away at a corner in the principal’s office, the safe is one of the school’s most precious assets.
It holds the school’s celebrated history and sensitive information on former teachers and students.
It is here that the academic secrets of a Kenyan economist, the late Barack Obama Snr, are kept.

The late Obama is the father of the man touted to become America’s first black President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
Maseno School’s senior teacher in-charge of archives, Mr Mangla Okanda, only speaks about the records contained within with the permission of the principal, Mr Paul Otula.
Old records
“The records here date back to 1906, when the school was founded. We have records of all the students who have passed through this school,” says Okanda.
Several prominent Kenyans, including the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Ramogi Achieng’ Oneko, have their records here.
“The head teachers that time were very mean with information. They condensed a student’s four-year record in a small piece of paper,” says Okanda.
Inside the safe is a small cabinet with drawers that contain the documents.
Okanda removes a brown card from one of them. “This one belonged to Barack Obama Sr. He joined the school in 1950 and left in 1953,” he explains.
Obama Sr — Index No 3422 — joined the school with his elder brother, Joseph, who left in 1951 for unexplained reasons.

Obama Sr is said to have come from Alego-Ng’iya in Central Nyanza. His age was not indicated.
The head teacher then was BL Bowers, who served longest at the school, from 1951 to 1969.
Records describe Obama Sr as an intelligent student and show that he was promoted from Class B to A.
“This is an indication that he was a brilliant boy, since Class A was reserved for the very bright students,” says Okanda.
In a neat handwriting, Bowers described Obama Sr as “very keen, steady, trustworthy and friendly. Concentrates, reliable and out-going”.
Okanda says Obama Sr was a member of the Willis House, the first student hostel to be built at the school.
Otula says students admitted to Maseno were exclusively Christians, since the Anglican Church of Kenya ran the school.
Strict teachers
The teachers were very strict. Students were thoroughly vetted before being enrolled.
The students were taught sciences, art and technical subjects, including carpentry and tailoring.
Otula says Obama Sr went straight to the US from Maseno, to start his academic tour. He later married an American woman, the mother of Senator Obama.
The classroom in which he studied, an E-shaped brick house built by the Scots, is still intact and currently hosting the school’s Form Four students.
The 10 pioneer hostels built in 1906 are still standing. Old boys have thwarted attempts by successive administrators to demolish and replace them with modern dormitories.
“The old boys have rejected moves to bring down the houses. It reminds them of the good old days. They would rather have them renovated than demolished,” says one of the school’s deputy principals, Mr Duncan Owiye.
Students of the Willis House were unaware Obama Sr was once a resident.
One other landmark in the school that has withstood the test of time is the bell. Now rusty but still in use, the bell has served the school for over a century.
It hangs on an equally ageing ‘Oseno’ tree, from which Maseno borrowed its name.
“The bell is a sacred feature in the school. No-one has ever tried to damage it,” says Owiye.

3, Zeituni Onyango was born in 1952 into the Luo tribe in Kenya, daughter of Onyango Obama and his third wife Sarah Onyango Obama. She was a much younger half-sister to Barack Obama, Sr., the son of their father’s second wife.[1][2][3][4] She was born during the British rule of the Protectorate of Kenya.[4]
4. Sarah Hussein Onyango Anyango Ogwel Obama (1922) She was the primary caregiver for Barack Obama Sr. after his mother, Akuma, left the family when her children were still young.
