ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A young woman who worked at a Denny's Restaurant on Albuquerque's West Side was killed Saturday morning during what police describe as a takeover-style robbery, and officers are still searching for suspects.
Police by mid-afternoon Saturday detained two possible suspects from the 10 a.m. robbery at the Denny's on Coors Boulevard at Iliff Road NW.
"Four masked men came in with guns," Brian Thompson told News 13. "Two went toward the back. That's all we could see because we all hit the ground."
Albuquerque police spokeswoman Nadine Hamby said witnesses told police they saw between two and six suspects.
She said police are interviewing at least 100 people to piece together what happened.
Suspect search brings SWAT to mobile home park
When the gunmen left the restaurant, investigators believe they headed to Central Avenue, then west to a mobile home park near 98th Street, which is not too far from the restaurant.
Within minutes swarms of SWAT team members, detectives, negotiators and police officers invaded the quiet neighborhood.
Michael Berry, who lives in that mobile home park, he counted more than two dozen SWAT members, all in green, looking for a killer in his neighborhood.
From what I know of it was a robbery that happened at Denny's the guy that killed the girl ended up here, it's been a standoff since 11 oclock this morning, Berry said.
For Crystal Montoya, the idea that snipers were pointing guns near the home she shares with her mother and younger sister was too much to handle.
It really hit close to home with it being that close, Montoya said.
As Montoya sat stuck outside the police lines, her mother and younger sister barricaded themselves in the back rooms of their home.
They heard the cops swarming all over the place...we actually had cops in our yard, hiding behind our vehicles, Montoya said.
After it was over Montoyas sister talked about the horrific experience.
We heard a big boom and it shook the whole trailer, Mercedes Benavidez said,
It was the same boom that Michael Berry's 17-year-old daughter heard. She was also stuck inside the standoff. The only form of communication between the father and daughter was a cell phone.
I talked to her by phone, by cell phone and tell her what's going on and keep the doors locked and stay down, don't go near the windows and stuff, Berry said.
Investigators said the boom was a shock bomb they had set off into the home. Their last resort to try and get the suspects out of the home; but when the swat team went inside, they didn't find what they were looking for.
I am assuming not because there was no arrest made, Montoya said.
Seven hours later residents were allowed into the mobile home park. That's when they found out there had not been an arrest.
We haven't seen anybody come out in custody so how do we know it's really over, Berry said.
A car parked in front of the home was also being dusted for fingerprints.
The girlfriend of the man who lives at the home said she hasn't seen her boyfriend all day.
Police are still searching for more possible suspects in the robbery and shooting. Anybody with information is asked to call Albuquerque police at 505-242-2677.
The victim's name has not been released.

This story included this very important informational comment from a reader:
"This robbery is the result of having the state declared a sanctuary state by governor Retardson and comrade marty has declaring ABQ a sanctuary city. I want to thank Retardson and comrade marty for their efforts in making NM and ABQ such a safe place to live (heavy sarcasm intended). A young woman working was shot because one of the killing robbing punks slipped and she commented about it. The area the police are looking in is known at Little Tijuana, the same area where builders made the first all mexican strip mall. When will our government get serious about removing this menace from our state? ABQ has become a battle ground and our wonderful politicians are doing nothing about it; innocent people are dying and our politicians sit on their collective backsides stealing us blind while we die. Thanks but no thanks."
In situations like this, it is nice to carry conealed. Sometimes, one( or two) person can make a difference.

I'm willing to bet big $$$ that the perps are illegals.
LOL Illegal aliens can't carry a gun.
Apparently the murder victim was a teenage female employee.
When (not IF) this happens in South Carolina in an Applebee's or even a Pizza Hut, the folks inside will all be helpless victims thanks to idiot lawmakers who insist that it is is in the community's best interest for CCW permit holders to be disarmed while in an establishment that serves alcohol in any form.
Hopefully, the citizens will then hold the politicians accountable for the blood that will be on the politician's hands.
Most of the folks in the restaurant were citizens, it’s a bit further north than the SWAT situation.
Time for concerned citizens to show up at the jail with a few ropes.

The govt, whose primary function is to protect its citizens, has abdicated all responsibility to do so. First by not protecting the borders, then by allowing sanctuary cities to flourish, and then by not imposing harsh penalities on violent offenders when caught. The govt has failed time after time after time......
CCW of the citizenry is the only answer.
When seconds matter, the police will be there in minutes. Time for CCW with a Springfield 1911 EMP.
Slain student called 911, but no one came in time

During the 2007 anti-amnesty battle, I did a lot of research and concluded that the U.S. industries which make use of unskilled labor are the culprits behind the illegals invasion of America.
Without going through the whole litany, it includes the associations (aka “lobbyists”) for restaurants, fast food, home building, and meat packing.
And that’s just for starters.
I don’t know how exactly these associations exercise their influence in states and in DC - or whether it’s through corruption or persuasion or both - but there’s no question that they’re doing something with our elected officials.
