House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer and Reps. Chris Van Hollen and Daniel Maffei have circulated this letter today ...

... to Obama expressing “growing concern” with the closures of GM and Chrysler dealerships across the country. The lawmakers say they’re asking for a “compelling justification as to how closing healthy dealerships will make the automakers more financially sound. The lawmakers are asking for lawmakers to sign this letter by 5p.m. today.

Full letter below:

Dear President Obama:

We are writing to express our concerns about General Motors’ and Chrysler’s decision to close profitable automobile dealerships across the country, and urge you to ask GM and Chrysler to delay final action on proposed closures pending further review of the decision to consolidate dealerships and the process by which Chrysler and GM selected the dealerships to close.

Closing these dealerships will put over 100,000 jobs at risk at a time when our country is shedding jobs at an alarming rate. We also question the criteria being used to determine which dealerships should be closed and the fundamental fairness involved in this effort. It is our view that the market rather than leaving it up to the manufacturers whose poor leadership contributed to their demise. Furthermore, we believe car dealers will be key players in any effort to revive the American auto industry.

We believe the dealerships are one of the auto industry’s key sources of strength and the manufacturers should continue to honor their agreements and contracts. The dealerships, and their more than 1 million employees, form personal relationships with customers that often contribute to brand loyalty and will be key to General Motors’ and Chrysler’s recovery following this economic downturn. While we understand the desire to reduce the number of unprofitable dealerships, no one has yet sufficiently explained the need

Because the closing of dealerships may have been politically motivated, and even they’re starting to realize it.

If it turns out the closed dealerships were owned by Republican contributors, the sh*t will really hit the fan and I think this is what is behind this letter to the community organizer.

Maybe folks are beginning to wake up to the kind of ‘hope and change’ 0bama was promising...he’ll make the changes and you hope you keep a job.

This arrogant marxist gasbag is dangerous for the country.

This all boils down to the main question;

HOW IN THE HELL, DOES AN ELECTED PRESIDENT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO TRAMPLE THE CONSTITUTION AND BEHAVE LIKE A DICTATOR, AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO RECUSE THIS ASS?

Other than that, things are just great in Bizarro World.

If, as has been reported, most of the dealerships targeted for closing where owned by Republicans, then I wonder how much effort Steny Hoyer will expend on their behalf?

At least he can say "I wrote a letter. I tried". That will be very comforting on the unemployment line, I'm sure.

As the old saying goes: "That and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee".

Obama*s power grab is so obvious that even members in his own party are starting to question his decisions.

The job losses, and the resulting destruction of lives, will be massive. Most of the jobs that have been and will be lost are relatively high paying jobs.

Yes, a lot of people, both Dimocrat and Republican, are calling and writing their reps about this. The story has huge and long legs.

If Rattner cannot pin the selections of closed dealerships on an underling, he will be thrown under the bus at some point in time.

Obama cuts all ties with people under him who get caught.

The Dems are so schizophrenic. Waxman is pushing thru an environmental bill that would destroy the economy and then you read comments by these congressmen indicating they’re concerned about the economy not flourishing.

Hussein doesn’t give a damn about making the economy work. He cares about confiscating wealth from the successful.

Hoyer, et al. are damn fools for not seeing this earlier. As plain as the nose on their faces.

“If, as has been reported, most of the dealerships targeted for closing where owned by Republicans, then I wonder how much effort Steny Hoyer will expend on their behalf? “

The problem for the RATS isn't the Republican dealer losing his source of income, it's the fact that thousands of others are also losing their job at the dealerships.

Ad to that the fact that cities will lose tax revenue and the RATS have a hard time selling the idea that closing the dealerships is a good plan for anyone.

If “our” government and it’s actions and policies were being reported as if it were happening to another country the cries of tyranny, take over and dictatorship would be deafening.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure.
From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s great civilizations has been two hundred years.
These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.”

Sadly most Americans just simply change the channel.
