Letter: Obama administration’s strategy not ‘socialism’ (blind liberalism alert)
Bemidji Pioneer ^ | 5/24/2009 | Stephen Booth

Posted on 05/24/2009 8:36:26 AM PDT by markomalley

“Socialism” is the new fear word being used by those opposed to the Obama administration to attack its policies. I saw this word on dozens of signs at the anti-tax/anti-government spending rally in front of Paul and Babe.

Three cheers for the protesters. Our democracy is built on open debate. But should the debate really be about socialism? Socialism advocates the government ownership of industry and financial institutions.

It’s true that the Obama administration is trying to get the U.S. car industry back on its feet and is shoring up the banking industry so that we don’t have a total collapse of our financial system.

But Obama and the Democrats do not advocate socialism, or the government ownership of industry and the financial system. So, what’s up with this new trend by some Republicans and the anti-Obama faction of yelling “Socialism!” like McCarthyites hurled the accusation “Communist!” in the 1950s?

It’s a strategy to generate fear and negative feelings without really discussing what’s best for our country.

“It is sad but true our country is headed toward total socialism like a fully loaded freight train headed down a steep decline at full throttle,” a protester is quoted as saying in the Pioneer’s front page article April 16. “If you love America, it’s time to stop the train.”

I think it’s time to stop making this an “I love America and you don’t” debate, which is really what the tag “socialism” tries to do. Yes, the Obama administration is trying to spend us out of the recession. Do those opposing this strategy have a better plan?

Only reason I post this is to show that there are some dhimmicrats who are still in some major, serious denial mode. By the time they wake up, we'll all be wearing Mao suits.

It should be about ANYTHING those who protest do not agree with.

Does this writer really have to be told that?

“Socialism” is the new fear word being used by those opposed to the Obama administration to attack its policies.

First, the word has been used for Obama's ideas and now policies since he entered the race. It is NOT recent.

Second, do these people know the definition?

This isn’t Socialism, more like Italian Fascism. Obama is more like Mussolini or Peron than Mao.

Hey, Steve, baby....what do you it when the Obammy adminisrtation demands, as part of it's bailout of GM, that it gets to place 4 of the 10 people on the Board of Directors, hmmm? You telling me that's not "ownership"?

But they’re right: it’s not socialism, it’s fascism.

Obama’s not going to fully nationalize anything. Instead he’s shown that the game is to have the Federal government direct how private owners use their property, and in some cases the terms under which they will sell it to whom. It’s the UAW that get’s a controlling stake of Chrysler under Obama’s plan to trample on centuries of bankruptcy law that assures creditors rights. He’s going to continue the trend Congress started under Bush of telling companies what kind of lightbulbs they can or can’t make and extend it to every product and service, but he’s not going to actually have the government *own* anything. Same style of economic policy as Hitler and Mussolini.

Actually, shouldn’t it be about fascism? So I guess this guy is right in an unintended fashion.

Socialism advocates the government ownership of industry and financial institutions.

My sincere view is that socialism is a social welfare state in which the government discourages private enterprise. Could someone please set me straight if I am wrong?

I think he'd answer you like this:

Quit trying to rebrand the word Socialism. We ain’t buying it.

Obama = Socialism = Communism

Socialism is exactly what the 0 and Co. are. He tells us that himself.
And just the fact that Castro, Chavez, and all the other Commies
love his way of doing things, says it all.

This author needs a dose of Lawrence O'Donnell:

Where Obama fails, America will eventually succeed.

Hoping Obamas policies fail IS American, because his policies ARE socialist.

And every time dissenters are critisized as being racists and haters (mostly by racists and haters btw), the more folks see the truth.

We do really need to get away from the Socialism label. This is not Socialism (ownership and control by the state). It is Fascism - private ownership but control by the state.

Open debate? You have got to be kidding.

Everything conservatives say is either not publicized by the leftstream media or it is ridiculed. Open debate just doesn’t exist anymore like it used to.

If Obama had left the banks and the car companies alone we would be at least a trillion dollars to the good and well on our way to a healthy economy.

Instead we are losing jobs daily and in debt to the tune of trillions in loans and the interest on those loans.

Of course his boys in the Unions might be hurting a little, but they would have survived.
