Obama's Assault on the Middle Class
The American Spectator ^ | May 2009 | Peter Ferrara

Posted on 05/16/2009 2:15:41 PM PDT by pleikumud

The Obama administration itself estimates that cap and trade will involve increased costs from 2012 to 2019 alone of $645 billion, and admits in its own budget that the actual costs could be much higher than that, depending on permit prices over those years. Indeed, other estimates put the costs three times higher. So the increased burden on each Ameri can over this period alone would be $2,100 to $6,300. For a family with two children, that would be $8,400 to $25,200, with much more to come after 2019. These increased costs are effectively a new tax on the American people, even though Obama promised in his campaign that there would be no tax increase for the bottom 95 percent of income earners.

Obama and his Socialist Congress are planning to enact cap & trade, aka "cap & tax". This scheme to limit CO2 emissions is based on the bogus religion called man-made global warming. Cap & trade, as the author points out, would severely tax everyone in the United States, cause companies to leave, significantly increase unemployment, lower our standard of living, and give the federal vast new powers to control everything in our lives that involves carbon dioxide. It is truly a frightening expansion of government aimed at the destruction of the American economy. Cap & trade is an insane and must be stopped. Write to your Congressmorons!

If cap and tax passes, it’s the end of our economy. The death blow. That’s all folks, it’s over. If high gas prices brought the economy to it’s knees at the 4 dollar a gallon mark, making all other energy more expensive than it is, is a fatal blow. As Rush said last year, our economy thrives when there is cheap plentiful energy. If that is gone, we’re done for. Energy bills are high as it is. Premium gas (to avoid ethanol) here in WI was $2.55 yesterday. O wants to cripple our country so the weak of mind will want to depend on government. Many will fall for it. We will not.

... theory of global warming...

...increased CO2 is allegedly trapping heat..

...will allegedly cause the earth’s temperatures to rise...

... that is how cap and trade is supposed to...

... expectation is that consumers,...

...Obama administration itself estimates ...

...actual costs could be much higher...

...other estimates put the costs three times higher ...

...increased costs are supposed to cause this decreased consumption ...

...means you are expected to cut back ...

...production and use of fertilizer also allegedly contributes to global warming...

That's an awful lot of fancy ways to say the word GUESS. For somebody to want to totally remake the world's largest economy based on so many guesses takes either diabolical disregard for the welfare of said economy's citizenry or the willful suspension of reality. Or both. So who exactly is the evil speculators now Mr. Dear Leader?

Kudsman is right.

We will do nothing at all. We are too busy trying to hold on to the way of life we have against the odds.

Like a person who needs to change careers or a company that needs to diversify we have waited too long holding on to the old ways hopeing that the truth is not true.

The 2010 elections are too far off and even if they were not there is no Republican / opposition leadership to organize a real counterfource to overtake or at least balance the Congress or the Senate.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck."

I think that the American people are tolerant.....but up to a point. The spineless GOP is not opposing this. This apparent lack of opposition will only embolden Hussien and the dems. This is a very bad scenario.

I predict that there will be a breaking point. And when it breaks, it will BREAK.

Good idea if the pitchforks don't get their attention. People showing up with muskets would be asking to get shot as insurrectionists. If every gun owner showed up in D.C. with an honest to goodness pitchfork though, to remind the elitists that we do have guns and are ready to use them if necessary, then the Government would look awful foolish if they began mowing down peasants with farm tools.

How about starting with books.

“Heaven and Earth - Global Warming: The Missing Science”
by Ian Plimer

is a good place to start. I have never, ever seen the global warming lunatics put so firmly in their place (and into historical context). Dr. Plimer is an Australian Professor of Geology and provides over 2,000 footnote references to back up his assertions. No one in their right mind who reads this book could possibly subscribe to the human induced global warming nonsense.

His assault on middle class has started on all fronts. Closing of car dealerships selling large and midsize American cars is a ploy to get us all into the little electric puddle jumpers advocated by greens.

Locally, Alabama Power failed to renew its contract with local coal mines. More people out of work (high paying jobs in mining here)in this area that has already lost a great deal (most) of mfg.companies.

What they are using to produce electricity I do not know, but am sure it will cost more.

My husband heard on tv today that people earning over $35,000 a year will have a hefty income tax increase next year. I do not know if it was a pundit projection(probably) or an announcement from the govt. "O" has already laid the ground work by announcing the present spending is unsustainable, while at the same time continuing to spend--latest is to bail out CA.

This admin. just wants to destroy capitalism and control everything.

Books to read:

Climate Confusion, by Roy Spencer

Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years, by Dennis Avery and Fred Singer

Both can be found at amazon.com Not sure about public libraries, since both books rip up the man-made global warming hoax, and would not be politically correct for a county or city to purchase.

There are a few states getting restless. It'll probably happen there first. Ole Honest Abe Obama may be faced with the biggest crisis our country has faced since 1861.

Maybe this is the big one Biden warned us about- at first we'll not agree with him but later will realize he's made the right choice.

Faith in the Feds has probably never been this low. From Hussein to Pelosi and Reid, I can't imagine a more disfunctional crew. Coupled with a crippled economy that they themselves played a major part in wrecking, this is really bad timing.

The various states should threaten secession until the fed understands their 'limited' role in the government of this republic. Afterall, they (feds) don't even exist when the 'pact' is dissolved. This administration is on thin ice but, to it's credit, it's Chicago pedigree may help them negotiate. It gets cold up there so having ice skates in the closet will help. We shall see.

Thanks for the reference. Since the controversy over this half baked theory first began, I've been saving articles and bookmarking great websites that shine the light of scientific truth on AWG.

I've got so many now, that I have a separate folder on my browser for them.

I'll look up Ian Plimer's book.

Not if several thousand showed up, intermingled with a hundred thousand pitchfork packing patriots.

Of course, more muskets would be even better.

I've been saying for a while now, that our window of opportunity is closing on effective peaceful protests.

If we don't manage to get the traitors in DC to resign, or to back off of their Marxist agenda through peaceful tea parties, then we'll have to take it to the next level.

We'll either do that, or simply roll over and give way to a tyranny that will destroy all that's been built here in the last few hundred years.

Those are our only choices.

IN another long time ago thread, I theorized that subconciously the American public wants to end PC and get it over with quickly rather than go about it slowly.

If we had elected McCain, we would have moved towards a more conservative country slowly, but surely.

However, with Obama we’re getting a bit of a purge mounting. There’s a lot of mounting anger and hatred for everything we’ve had ot put up with from the left for the past eight years, 9/11 was the shift that they keep ignoring and the citizenry are sick of their denial that we are in a new world, a world where we have to start making sacrifices.

After a couple years Zero’s legacy will be the final break with the liberal chaos and stranglehold that RINOs and these useless idiots in Congress have on the gates to advancement in either the party or country.

It’s actually happening and I think it’s pretty cool to be actually living in a time when history is shifting.

In the past, Perez Hilton’s snotty remark about Miss California would have gone unnoticed, but instead people are standing up and telling these Hollywood dips that they are no longer going to get away with this sort of behavior anymore.

People on the left are no longer able to get away with any of this anymore and I think we’re going to see a very different campaign during the next election.

I sometimes think that the election of BO may be a blessing in disguise. The liberals are truly showing what they want to do with the country. The are showing their nastiness an intolerance openly. This is probably good for the young idiots and other fools that wanted to vote for a liberal. He could end liberalism once and for all if things keep going down the path that he is leading.

I felt that way too. I’ll try to find that passage I wrote and post it. I think it’ll give people an idea of what we’re going through.

Zero’s election was I think, a way for the majority to tell every jerk that now they have had everything they’ve wanted and expected gratitude. However, they’re asking for more and we have nothing left to give. Nor would we.

I should greatly like to see that, but who's going to risk their family's lives and well being, walk away from careers, jobs and businesses built over decades to do that?

Remember that the founding fathers were the ELITE in society. Sure, they had the most to lose, but they also weren't "just getting by". At a 6 digit salary with a family to support, it feels like "just getting by" these days.

That doesn't leave a great amount of the populace that can pick up and march on DC in protest at the drop of the dime, and most of us will probably get distracted and go after the dime.

Sorry, but I've been thinking about what this would take. It would require something so life-altering that each an every American would find themselves looking at the precipice before they'd step up any further than verbal complaint.

Liberals and RINOS. Here’s what Senator Mel Martinez (RINO-FL) wrote in response to my letter:

“I believe that the threat of climate change is real, and I am working with my colleagues in the Senate to regulate and reduce greenhouse emissions. As we consider climate change legislation, we need to ensure that the laws we pass will in fact reduce carbon emissions and lessen the threat of catastrophic climate change.”

This so-called Republican senator is kissing Obama’s butt.
