Sen. Arlen Specter says the "prospects are pretty good" for a compromise on legislation making it easier for workers to form unions.
Specter had come out against the bill in March, disappointing labor leaders. They had hoped he would be the crucial 60th vote needed to overcome an expected GOP filibuster of the Employee Free Choice Act.

But Specter has since switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party, and he said Thursday that he's been meeting with labor leaders and fellow senators in hopes of coming up with a compromise he could support.
Specter is facing re-election next year and is under pressure for pro-union groups as they consider whether to endorse him.

he has cut a deal with the dems. he’ll support EFCA if (a) the dem national party keeps another dem from running in the PA primary in 2010, and (b) he gets his seniority back if he gets reelected.

I realize these are politicians that we are dealing with, but isn't there some shred of dignity, some modicum of intellectual honesty, some sliver of principle? This is so pathetically politically expedient that it's embarrassing and sickening. Truly, it makes me uncomfortable.
To: Joiseydude
The chances that Specter will not support this bill are ZERO. He’s a Democrat now and now longer needs to hide his real political philosophy which is based 100% on the GET RE-ELECTED AT ALL COSTS approach to politics.
To: Joiseydude
No surprise Arlen but at the rate this Administration is tanking he economy, there may no be anything left to unionize.

Nah, they just make "offers" that our once and former chum can't refuse.
One thing, Arlen ol' buddy.
All the labor union endorsements won't so much as dent the Benedict Arnold image you have richly earned.
Oh, and once you LOSE the forthcoming Democratic primary election (they don't trust you either)...YOU...GOT...NOTHING!
