The Senate on Tuesday backed an amendment that would allow people to carry loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.

Sen. Tom Coburn... sponsored the measure, which he said would protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. The amendment allows firearms in parks and wildlife refuges, as long as they are allowed by federal, state and local law.

Twenty-seven Democrats joined 39 Republicans and one independent in supporting the amendment, which was attached to a bill imposing restrictions on credit card companies. The amendment was approved 67-29.

Well now, isn't that a slap in the face of the Obama administration, which when faced with a Judge's order from D.C. to stop implementation of a rule allowing concealed carry in national parks, said that they would not appeal it.

I wonder what the house will do. It would be nice to see Obama either sign this or veto it.

“The amendment allows firearms in parks and wildlife refuges, as long as they are allowed by federal, state and local law. “

So lets pass a law saying you can carry a gun if its legal.

It's chance is good in the House, but not good enough to override a veto. The blue and yellow mutts will more than likely vote for it. The NRA & GOA will hold it against them if they don't. It would help the GOP in 2010 if they note NEA. We have to worry about RINOs & Obama.

I haven’t found the text of the Coburn Amdt. No. 1067, but here is the roll call - and both Webb and Warner from Virginia voted for it :)

"Faehner's group sent a letter to senators Tuesday stating that Coburn's amendment would allow individuals to openly carry rifles, shotguns, and semiautomatic weapons in national parks. "As a result, individuals could attend ranger-led hikes and campfire programs with their rifles at Yellowstone National Park and other national park treasures across the country,"

Oh no!! Law abiding citizens carrying guns?? Say it ain't so!! I'll bet it even allows them to carry airsoft pistols in parks also!![/sarcasm]

"which was attached to a bill imposing restrictions on credit card companies."

I'd actually like to know more about the bill before I come to the conclusion that it's a good idea this passes. While this one amendment could be good, the whole bill could be a real turd so I'm withholding judgment.
