Obama's Self-Actualizing Language
The American Thinker ^ | May 08, 2009 | Lee Cary

In the minds of his believers, Barack Obama has only to utter words and they become so. It is a phenomenon somewhere on the border between politics and religion.

In the arena of Biblical scholarship called the New Hermeneutic, spoken words can become self-actualizing language events. This power, reinforced by media adoration, was an effective element of Obama's campaign speeches. And it continued to be effective into his first 100 some days in office.

First, we'll review (aiming to be succinct) a school of Biblical criticism based on the notion of self-actualizing language. Then, apply it to how Barack Obama uses language.

A self-actualizing language event displays the power of the spoken word to make manifest that reality to which it refers. In the Biblical narrative, that power falls solely within the providence of the divine, either directly, or through an agent like Moses who parts the waters with powers not his own.

The creation story in the Old Testament book of Genesis is the premier account of self-actualizing language. God speaks and order emerges out of the chaos. God says "Let there be light," and the divine word makes it so.

Such is the power of self-actualizing language when effectively used, and uncritically heard, by those who've made a deep emotional investment in the person behind the voice...It moves close, does it not, to fostering a cult?

Very interesting article.

Self actualizing language? This is standard fair for Liberals.

When a Liberal gets involved in something corrupt, the Liberal community says we should pass a law against it and the corrupt activity dissapears (it doesn't).

Quite. And, caring about a problem - speaking about it - solves the problem, to a liberal.

Cliff’s Notes: Obama’s a liar. He takes full advantage of the liberal’s propensity for crimestop:

crimestop - Orwell’s definition: “The faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought. It includes the power of not grasping analogies, of failing to perceive logical errors, of misunderstanding the simplest arguments if they are inimical to Ingsoc, and of being bored or repelled by any train of thought which is capable of leading in a heretical direction. In short....protective stupidity.”

I'm reminded of a news story from a few years ago, out of Florida I believe. A very, very big fan of psychoactive drugs had climbed a tree, while quite nude, and refused to come down, much to the surprise and chagrin of passing pedestrians. He was quoted as telling police that "I actualized myself up the tree, but I couldn't actualize myself back down."

The emperor has no clothes. And he’s up a tree. Doesn’t know it yet, but there he is.

“Stop me before I do it again.” Clinton was the master of this.

spoken words can become self-actualizing language events

Simple translation of the article: Obama tells lies, his naive followers believe his lies. Obama says he wants to be bipartisan, and his followers therefore believe that he IS bipartisan.

You don't need post-modern mumbo-jumo to get the point across. Obama is just a con man.

Sigh... If only the Obamassiah was the one who spoke, he would have said:

Behold, I, uh, say that, uh, there should be, um, sustainable, green, and uh environmentally sensitive light generated in a non-polluting, jobs creating way!

And we wouldn't have had this Global Warming™ nightmare... See, the Obamassiah could have saved us all!

Well... one could argue that God announced what He was going to do, and did it. That the power wasn’t literally in the language.
