White paper orders huge military build-up

Patrick Walters, National security editor | April 25, 2009

KEVIN Rudd is set to announce Australia's biggest military build-up since World War II, led by a multi-billion-dollar investment in maritime defence, including 100 new F-35 fighters, a doubling of the submarine fleet, and powerful new surface warships.

Kevin Rudd is set to roll out the biggest military build-up since World War II. 04/09 Sky News Views today: 21Sorry, this video is no longer available. The new defence white paper will outline plans for a fundamental shake-up of Australia's defence organisation to ensure that the nation can meet what the Prime Minister sees as a far more challenging and uncertain security outlook in Asia over the next two decades.

China's steadily growing military might and the prospect of sharper strategic competition among Asia's great powers are driving the maritime build-up, which will see new-generation submarines and warships equipped with cruise missiles, and a big new investment in anti-submarine warfare and electronic warfare platforms, including new naval helicopters.

The white paper will consider the emerging non-traditional threats to Australia, including cyber security, climate change and its associated risk of large uncontrolled people movements.

I’m guessing that Rudd thinks that Australia might not be able to depend on the U.S. in the near future. A combination of a doofus, at best, for a president and national poverty.

I don’t blame them. The United States is not a reliable allie any longer.....or at least the ruling Caesar is not.

Things are hotting up in the Pacific. The “sea dragon” is rising, the russians are in resurgence, Taiwan is still threatened, Japan is beginning to assert herself, India is a growing power - no wonder the Aussies are worried.

I suspect that Australians are anticipating having to take up some slack in Asia and maybe elsewhere as the US abandons its role as policeman and its own self-defense, perhaps worse as the US actually reverses direction in places like Palestine.

The United States is not a reliable allie any longer.....or at least the ruling Caesar is not.

Not only the TOTUS, but 52% of the public.

AND NO I DON'T CARE IF PART OF THAT 52% SUFFERS BUYER'S REMORSE. They had the lack of judgment in the beginning, they allowed themselves to be led by the nose by a shallow and perverse media campaign, and in the end were faithless to basic American principles. Even if they regret their actions now, there's nothing to say that they won't be easily suckered in the future.

When you vote based on feelings rather than on reason, you're not worth dealing with.

Perfectly stated.

How can we live amongst such fools?

Dude, I don’t think there is any “BUYER’S REMORSE”. Beck quoted a poll on his show yesterday that said exactly 0% of blacks polled had a negative opinion of Hussein 0bama.

“When you vote based on feelings rather than on reason, you’re not worth dealing with.”

Well said. I might add that a lot of people voted based on ignorance.

I heard the same thing, but if you will recall, Beck highlighted that this was a CBS/NYT poll. I think the context was mocking how skewed the poll was.

AND if you look at the poll’s internals, they show that 43% of the respondents claim to have voted for Zero, while only 25% claim to have voted for McLame. IIRC, the actual figures were more like 52-48. So it sounds like their sample may have been just a tad bit skewed.

Note to self: put Australia near the top of my list of “potential places-to-live-if-America-doesn’t-wake-up-by-November-2010-elections”.

as far as I ma concerned those obama voters are just as much as the enemy as others who hate us.

They were thick enough to vote for a clown who they knew nothing about, they thought it was either American idol or cool, even some voting because he is non white(not black)
I never met one, not one voter for bozo who knew about him.

IDIOTS

Any sovereign state who depends on past American alliances and foolishly expects compliance will certainly receive ignorant indifference garnished with good intentions.
