McCain is a dumbass. Voting for “mandatory volunteerism” is voting for “involuntary servitude”.
Stupid dick lugar. I might have guessed it.
Why would these fools vote for this? Mark Souder voted yes also, Mike Pence voted no.
Ah yes, our lil’ ol’ cheerleader Kay Bailey Hutchison is there, jes like I thought she’d be. Pathetic pro-abortion, closet socialist but maybe not so closet now...
Corker didn’t? I am surprised. Alexandar seems to want to lose this Fall.
How much is this liberal piece of hooey costing us? People want to ‘give back’ join a church, volunteer at your local hospital or somewhere in your community, donate money or time to charities. We don’t need taxpayer money or a bill to make this happen. Our government is completely off the rails! Duly noted regarding the list of Yes voters. Thanks for the post.
“
Feingold (D) Yes; Kohl (D) Yes.
Yeah, I KNEW I could count on my socialist senators from Wisconsin.
At least the matter is simplefied now. When the time comes I will do what I have to.
Achtung! McCain du bist ein dummer assel!
I know I can’t spell.
Not surprised to see Lugar on that list.
Both our Georgia Sinators voted for this travesty.
I have let them know that they will not get another
vote from me or anyone else I can get the word out to.
“...broadly expand incentives for students and seniors to give back to their communities.”
***Is this the same bill that will make it mandatory to volunteer?
Let McCain’s daughter go first.
The republican party needs to be sent to the trash heap. A new party is needed that advocates a smaller federal government, state rights, and a general overall return to what our founding father’s had in mind for our country. The republican party hasn’t been that party, and I see no indication of anything changing.
Over the past few years when the republicans weren’t promoting outright socialism themselves, the republican idea of resisting the socialism of the dems is one of “me too, only we will do it a little less”. Screw that.

Now there's a surprise. </sarcasm>
Yep, they’re making our minds up for us......tick....tick....tick
Has anyone actually read the bill? It’s VERY long to sift through. If you have, can you point me to the areas of the bill that people are claiming makes volunteering mandatory?
ping
Cochran is starting to vote like he is giving harry a lewinsky. I am so diappointed... and he was at one time a staunch and I mean staunch Conservative... now he just sucks.
LLS
Hutchison (Tex.)
Voted for this..
Time for tar & feathers!!!
Could someone explain exactly how McCain would have been substantially different/better than Obama?
Once again the stupid GOP Seantors believe the democraps will be honest with this maneuver ... the langauge/provisions removed recently will be re-inserted now that the fool GOP has voted for this bill in present form ... and once again a bill will get added to and rushed through without the elected representatives actually reading everything int he bill. That’s how billions got allocated for ACORN and ACORN related projects, recently.
`SEC. 151. PURPOSE.
`It is the purpose of this subtitle to authorize the operation of, and support for, residential and other service programs that combine the best practices of civilian service with the best aspects of military service, including leadership and team building, to meet national and community needs. Such needs to be met under such programs include those related to--
`(1) natural and other disasters;
`(2) infrastructure improvement;
`(3) environmental stewardship and conservation;
`(4) energy conservation;
`(5) urban and rural development; and
`(6) other unmet needs consistent with the purpose as described in this section.'.
In other words, twenty odd Republicans just voted to establish an Obama brownshirt corps today.
Idiots.
Bring it on, let’s get it started...
SEC. 6104. DUTIES. b 6 (6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
NEVER.
Goober in the red Flannel shirt? It's way past time for him to go. Why anyone ever voted for him as sentor I'll never understand. His claim to fame was replacing a felon governor. He was big government then as governor. Lamar's deals after office were very questionable.
“Could someone explain exactly how McCain would have been substantially different/better than Obama?”
The only thing better is McCain is old. We had the chance of him croaking in office.
Excellent ping list. DisGUSTing that so many Rs voted for it. Now I’m thinking that “they” wanted McCain running against 0bama so no matter who “won” the leftist fascist agenda would go forward.
Any R who voted for this hateful piece of crap should get booted out as soon as they’re up for re-election.
Please do not insult idiots. They are so much worse than idiots, they are traitors.
I’d have expected no less from these traitors.
Something is going to spark it and only God knows what it is. In fact , it will be God who does it, he works in mysterious ways...
I called both of the Rinos when this was put to vote for cloture. I will call again tomorrow and tell them the same thing that you told them. Also I don’t care if a
Democrat does get either seat. Would we know the difference?
Lamar!
Get yer head out of your Clymer
So now a large number of Republicans are drinking Obama’s Kool-Aid... How can they walk lock-step in his efforts to build his Brownshirts?
As if college already doesn’t have enough money-wasting, time wasting programs they force students to go through to “earn” a degree... now the federal government will now mandate that said students perform hundreds of hours of “volunteer” service/community organizing/public service to get a degree.
Socialism is firmly in control. Turn out the lights, turn in your guns. It’s over.
Sphincter did it again! I’m surprized McPAIN didn’t pick Sphincter as his Vice Presidential Running Mate!! altough We kn ow he wanted Lieberman thinking that would guarantee his LOSS and resultant Bonus from SOROS and The Drive-bys!
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
There is only ONE instance in which it is legal for involuntary servitude to exist w/in the US, & it is spelled out right here (punishment for a crime). What crimes have these young people committed?
Shouldn't this also include the prohibition of a military draft, which I believe is a form of involuntary servitude?
Go to Washington and you will be paid off. Money is buying all these so called Republicans by the Dem’s and they have lost their values. Money is the root of all evil.
Burr (NC) voted YEA ????
The same day it posts he starts a re-election drive..??
WHAT !! ??
LOSER..
Correction. Money CAN be the root of all evil.
I’m not surprised that Souder voted “yes”...from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a supporter of the big Security / Prison State. He’s a Drug Warrior on steroids, too.
You think my email to my Senator might be a bit harsh?
Well, I must say that I am not surprised that you have chosen to get behind yet another mass indoctrination program of the socialist agenda.
Your vote today to mandate that any college or university that receives any sort of Federal funds (think financial aid) must require hundreds of hours of “volunteer service” from their students for them to receive their degree is absolutely insane.
Exactly what part of “volunteer” includes being mandated to do something?
I suppose the next step will be the Federal Government mandating what counts as Volunteer hours. I am sure such hours will be required to be in Leftist-Socialist approved venues.
