Exactly...but they’re not the “new” Dems, they’re Dixiecrats.

WV is a place out of time and a reality all unto its own.

Now I really, *really* wish I’d been there.
It sounds almost transcendent.

the national anthemn is fast becoming a soul tune because of the way many sing it and why do black when they sing it have to carry on the notes for so long. It was never intended to be played like that so why do they think they have to change it?

I feel the same way, but I can't help but wonder if all they can find is someone who doesn't want to do it except for the money, and all they can find are people who could give a rat's behind. Reminds me of Bing Crosby and Silent Night. He considered the song so Holy that if it wasn't sung perfectly to his standards, it was a disgrace. That's how America was founded.

The (Georgia) secession congress voted overwhelmingly for leaving the Union.

The politicians ignore the will of the people. Do y'all think that its OK for arrogant "statesmen" to run roughshod over the people when the usurpers happen to be southern? The popular vote was close, evidence discovered in 1972 suggests that secession did not even win a majority, but either way it did not have the popular support to justify the overwhelming approval needed for such a revolutionary step.

The reb soldiers were generally brave and honorable fellows, but there was nothing good or noble about the crooked political Confederacy.

The actual vote was for secession (yeah I know some revisionist history denies that).

Any documentation? Facts are our friend.

Here's a link to a page in the book by Michael P. Johnson discussing the Georgia secession. Hardly the overwhelming call of the people needed to effect a legitimate revolution, but Democratic Party politicans have never been known for their political ethics.

Thats your "proof?" Where is the proof of how Georgians allegedly 'cheated their state into secession'?

FYI, Johnson's proof is a recount based on media accounts (remember Florida in 2000)? Additionally, the vote in question is a POPULAR vote. The vote that mattered was the vote by duly elected delegates to the convention, who voted overwhelmingly to secede (208 to 89).

To effect a Constitutional amendment, you need more than a majority. But to effect the monumental step of secession, the reb politicians just needed to ignore the almost even election results and induce enough of the political "betters" to ignore the will of the rabble electorate to be able to push the thing through. But the last laugh was on the stupid secessionists when the lack of sufficient popular support sabotaged the rebellion in Georgia.

The politicians could cheat and manipulate their way into a rebellion, but were unable to manipulate the hearts and minds of the people into sufficiently supporting a revolution.

A popular referendum is NOT a Constitutional amendment. The vote by duly elected representatives of the state is NOT a Constitutional amendment.

But to effect the monumental step of secession, the reb politicians just needed to ignore the almost even election results ...

The people of Georgia had duly elected representatives to the convention. The "popular" vote you refer to was simply a referendum, not legally binding vote on secession.

The politicians could cheat and manipulate their way into a rebellion ...

Again, I ask you for PROOF (aka FACTS) of this alleged cheating.

The very fact the election was neck to neck and the secession convention vote one sided seems evidence of the charge that pledged Unionist candidates betrayed the people by either prior design, bribery or intimidation.

Below is a link to the members of the secession convention. I know Presley Yates of Catoosa County, who voted against secession, later got a bullet in his head from a brave concealed hero of Dixie. I get the feeling that life was none too safe for anybody who voted against secession in the glorious land of southern freedom. The attempted murder of Presley Yates was certainly not an advertisement for the legitimacy of the process.

Adopted as the state song back when the state legislature districts were drawn primarily based on geography, giving disproportionate power to the eastern shore and the panhandle.

These days, MD is dominated politically by the DC/Balto Megapolis.
