Every state song should call somebody scum, just to keep things interesting.

...this debate has been going on for several years now in Maryland....what it’s really about is trying to appease black Democrats who now wield considerable political power in the state.

“Just one more of a long list of reasons I am seeking a job in North Carolina so I can leave this state”

.....my family has been in Maryland since 1645....I left in 2005 and moved to western N.C.....our county is 98% anglo-european/judeo-christian....low crime/low taxes/good schools/honest government/family&church oriented....only drawback right now: a bad economy.

Thank you. This nation needs a lot more honesty and a lot less bootlicking.

Courtesy is well and good. But so is facing hard facts. Especially in hard times, which we are headed.

I think it would take a semester to decode all the allegory in that song. Who the heck was Carroll?

the Yankees use to head to south FL but now they have overpopulated it, made it look like the north east and now are moving here.

You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

“I think it would take a semester to decode all the allegory in that song. Who the heck was Carroll?”

....that would be Charles Carroll of Carrollton who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence....he was the only Catholic signer, one of the wealthiest men in America and outlived all the other signers....today the Carroll family still controls valuable land in Maryland, but reside on 5th Ave in Manhattan.

“The despot’s heel is on thy shore,
Maryland!”

That would be Washington DC, no?

Things haven’t changed much.

It ends with a call for the state to stand up to the Union: "She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb — Huzza! She spurns the Northern scum!

The rebs always talked a better game than they delivered. If hot air counted for anything, Richmond, VA would now be the capitol of the world.

She breaths! She burns! She'll come! Maryland! My Maryland!"

Nope. It was South Carolina that burned, but our side gets the credit for that.

If Lincoln hadn’t arrested a large number of Marylanders and flooded the state with federal troops it may well have voted to secede, leaving Washington surrounded....

And if the rebels hadn't cheated their state into secession, Georgia would have remained in the Union and the Confederacy would have been stillborn and the nation saved from four years of bloodshed.

fwiw, i truly LOVED it when a choir of USNA midshipmen sang the REAL words at the opening of Pimlico last year (could have been every year, for little i know!).

the REBEL YELLS were DEAFENING at the racetrack. (nearly as deafening as when the "good 'ole rebs" at a DuPont Circle, DC theater HOWLED when the first BLUEBELLIES "got theirs" in RIDE WITH THE DEVIL, which is DECIDEDLY not "rebel gray territory". = but that's another story for another day!!!)

for once, you are likely correct.

as for me & mine, we will continue to sing the REAL words, when we go to the Point Lookout DEATH CAMP Remembrance Weekend, to remember the THOUSANDS of CSA prisoners of War that "lincoln's minions" slaughtered like so many cattle..

I doubt you'll find many 'Yankee scum' who care about that, either. Any more than you Lost Causers care about Andersonville and the other rebel murder mills.

Now if we could only eliminate the liberal scum from the state it would be a pretty good place to live.
