Obama's Big Tax On Business Is Also A Tax On Consumers
US News and World Report ^ | 3/7/09 | Matt Bandyk

President Obama's proposal for a carbon cap-and-trade program tries to defray the cost it puts on middle and lower-class Americans by channelling $60 billion of the money raised by selling carbon permits towards various tax credits and subsidies. But businesses of all stripes emitting carbon will shoulder the burden of the cap. Irwin Stelzer explains in the DC Examiner that this means inescably higher energy costs for consumers--not made up by the $60 billion handout:

The fourth problem is that Obama has promised that no family earning less than $250,000 per year will pay one dime in higher taxes. But the companies that have to pay for permits will pass that cost on to consumers in the form of higher prices for electricity and other products. So these families will pay $645 billion, only some of which will be returned in the form of lower income taxes, for a system that is terribly inefficient.

Cap-and-trade is a strange kind of tax in that for some reason we've decided not to call it a tax.

Businesses don't pay taxes, government doesn't have it's 'own money'. Why are people so dumb, because that's how the government wants them.

According to one judge, those questioning Zero's eligibility are "agents provocatuer". Guess we'll see how long before we get to the treason trials.

“But the companies that have to pay for permits will pass that cost on to consumers in the form of higher prices for electricity and other products.”

The increase in costs will be whatever the tax is, plus what the exec has to pay as a result of the increase in goods or services on themselves as well. No one taxed will take the hit. This is how you do away with the middle class. The rich stay the same but relative to the poor, who lose bigtime, they are ‘richer’. Capitalism is the only game in town where everyone wins.

I saw all of these plans in the incubator when I majored in Political Science at Indiana University from 1977-1981. At the time, it was a dogma preached by academic kooks to lazy students (like me) who didn’t want to tackle a challenging degree. I know what this communist dogma calls for; the intentional destruction of the American capitalist system, private property, individual liberty, religion, and the Constitutional Republic. Once they have destroyed all, it will be replaced with a communist paradise. At the time, I thought “yeah, right.”

Today, the students who drank the kool-ade have firmly grasped the levers of power in this country.

This is quite a surprise coming from a predictably liberal weekly “news” magazine.

no no no no no - businesses will pay those taxes out of thin air, or out of the “ill-gotten gains” bag they keep to give themselves bonuses. Money is evil unless the government spends it, then it’s magic.

My idiot governor (Granholm) showed us how it works when she imposed a higher tax on diesel a few years back. She said it wasn’t a tax on everyone. She called it a tax on the evil transportation industry. Never mind the fact that they passed the cost on to the consumer (as was their right)

Now she has brilliant a new plan. She’s not taxing us poor innocent drivers, she wants to raise taxes on wholesale gasoline.

I don’t about you guys, but the best part of this article is that we are now seeing the mainstream media criticize Obama. That’s something I thought that I would never see. Just a few minutes ago, I read an AP story saying that this is Obama’s economy now, and he is responsible for the problem.

If the mainstream media is dissing Obama at this stage of his presidency, can public opinion be far behind?

IF there’s a silver lining in all this, it is that the knowledge that WE pay business taxes will finally bubble to the surface.

All taxes come from the populace, either directly or indirectly.

Taxes on businesses and corporations are passed onto consumers of their goods or services.

How many different policital offices has Granholm held over the years? Did she start out as Governor?

Every person who contributes to her or votes for her is guilty.

Granholm is stupid—but the voters are worse.

Absolutely correct! But it can be a stress reliever to dis Obambi.

What we are witnessing now is encouraging. There is very recent MSM printing of articles not supporting Obama, and some Dems in Congress are questioning Obama's fiscal leadership. Some are shedding their blinders.

Business needs tax breaks not more tax burden. Obama sure doesn’t understand economics, does he?

Watch prices rise.

And BTW, start stocking up on groceries.
