The White House could easily have granted the press conference Gordon Brown so clearly craved. Though there was something a little craven, a touch humiliating about much of the build-up to this week's Prime Ministerial visit to Washington, it's reasonable to suppose that, in this instance at least, Brown may have been treated a little shabbily. The kindest way to view this is that the White House is so focused on economic fire-fighting that it has little time for diplomatic niceties; alternatively it sends a tough reminder as to who wears the trousers in this relationship partnership. There'll be none of this Athens to Rome nonsense, Mister Brown. (Was it just a coincidence that the BBC went big on Macmillan visiting JFK in their footage last night?)
There is a third possibility, of course. Obama has been briefed about the British press corps and sees no reason to humour them. This would not be wholly unsurprising: Fleet Street's finest are viewed as scatalogically-obsessed, bottle-throwing, teenage yobs far too fond of relieving themselves behind the bushes in the Rose Garden, or worse, in the East Room's pot plants.
Anyway, as you might expect, the British press corps is not happy with being ignored and sidelined today. Instead of half an hour in which to ask rude penetrating questions, they will have to watch and fume as the wire services ask a couple of softball questions while Brown and Obama pose for pictures. Most unhappy of all are the DC-based correspondents who have been denied access to even the "pool spray" press mini-event there will be. This means the colourful reconstructions of the "summit" in the Sunday papers this weekend may have to be (even) more artful than usual.

Acting President Obama has teleprompter withdrawal.
Obama, healer of the global community is a DUD.
now they are starting to understand the O, just a bit
0 is afraid of the British press corp.
I seem to recall the hysterics the left went through with Bush and the rest of the world. I can’t believe all the openings 0 and the rats have given us. Pity the chair of the RNC is to busy trying to get with it. I did have a lot of hope in Steele.
Obama continues to fail and our country continues to burn.
O is afraid of the questions ...
Of course, this is the new American philosophy of treating our allies with respect. DDWBD - Don’t Do What Bush Did.
Obama is insecure and out of his depth. Obama doesn’t know what he is doing.
He is only concerned with “CONTROL.” He needs to control all variables to insure he “looks” good and is not exposed as the FRAUD he really is.
Too late. I see you. I hear you. I know.
Based on Odumbo’s understanding of economics, I can understand why he does not want to answer questions without preplanned answers.
Obama has his marxist ideas, but they aren’t based on knowledge, or a grasp of anything, they are based on indoctrination and theatrics.
When 0bama tells the international media to ESAD, they just have to continue to praise him and remember that ‘the One’ is all about ‘Hope’ and ‘Change’ and that most of these Eurotards desperately asked for what they are getting now.
There's pot plants in the East room?
Anyway, as you might expect, the British press corps is not happy with being ignored and sidelined today. Instead of half an hour in which to ask rude penetrating questions, they will have to watch and fume as the wire services ask a couple of softball questions while Brown and Obama pose for pictures.
Was this a way to avoid those 'rude penetrating questions'?
Who’s this Gordon guy anyway. Does he vote in Chicago? I didn’t think so.
LLS
The British press has been running stories about his birth certificate, and questions about his citizenship.
Nothing too penetrating, but they're running them anyway. No way is he going to take a chance on getting asked something he doesn't want to answer.
Whenever I hear even conservative pundits remark on his great skills, strength and intelligence, I wonder what what the heck they’re smoking. Obama strikes me as someone who lacks confidence, he wants to be popular, needs to be adored and will most likely end up looking petty and mean when faced with widespread criticism.
The man is a puny, greenish, little chain smoker who likes to party.
Not Ready For Prime Time.
He has to answer to Jumpin’ Jack Pelosi—LOL!!!
Yes indeed. The one time Obama was caught without a teleprompter....
enter Joe the Plumber..spread the wealth infamous quote.
Genuine honest people with principles can speak from the heart and they don’t need a crutch like a teleprompter.
Master manipulators need all the cheat sheets to stay on message for fear the truth may POP out.
Mr. Obama ....we see you. You can’t hide. We see your true colors and you too Rahm.
Bingo.
The Acting President Obama, he is a good actor, he reads his lines from the script off the teleprompter with just the right speech inflection and delivery style.
He just can’t think. He knows nothing about life in America, and has no understanding of life in the real world. How could he, being raised in Indonesia.
Perhaps, but I think even the British media are still starry-eyed over him. I think this snub is more a matter of 0's self-obsession. I really believe he thinks it's no big deal that he publicly snubbed our closest ally. It'll backfire, of course -- but because of hubris, rather than fear.
The fear will come, of course: Obama's way out of his league with folks like Putin, and even Ahneedajihad: guys who've successfully played for keeps -- with real bullets -- against smart opponents. Once they hand him his rear a couple of times, Obama will be too afraid to take questions.
Just not yet.
I don’t know if Obama wants to rule the world (my guess woud be pretty close to yes) but Congress has got to understand that there will be no Congress if they approve his bills. There won’t be any need for Congress. Obama may or may not want a one world government which I don’t even understand the concept of; but I know he wants to be the only representative of the United States. The Congress critters will fall into the category with the rest of us.
Try and understand Congress; no matter what he has told you or what you have blindly been led to believe (like not reading the bill) it won’t be good for you either.
IMHO - Anyone who viewed that appearance, friend or foe, had to come away wondering whether "...this guy Obama is anywhere near as sharp as I thought he was."
Very true. Obama is quite like Osama Bin Laden in a way. Both are figureheads that represent the sick movement they head.
Neither plans or does the spadework to carry anything forward. They are incapable other than being a symbol.
Hey maybe that is why Obama has to have a graphic symbols attached to everthing he does.
Kind of like that hokey “Office Of The President-Elect” sign he pinned on the front of a podium, or like that symbol on his plane.
Arrogant narcissistic dickweed.
You are right about the starry eyed Brits, that’s what makes this really funny.
The Brits don’t see the teleprompter crutch ... and wouldn’t understand the stupid ‘profits and earning ration’ type answers.
Jes gittin’evn wi’whity
Maybe they'll see which side of their bread isn't buttered.
I agree. I don’t see his “gifted” communication skills either. He counts on nailing a speech and being hailed in the media and he hopes no one calls him on his lies. So far, they haven’t to a great extent. He is overt with his lies too.
When I look at him, I see insecurity. When I hear him, I hear a bad preacher who hopes you’re buying what he’s selling. All his tactics are centered around “get in their face” strategy (ACORN community organizing.) Hasn’t he been on television every day since November 4th??? I don’t watch but I read about his “show.”
I think he still believes people are afraid of being called a “racist” if they disagree with him. We all need to get over it.
He reacts like a child to me. He is a grown man but somehow stunted at a 6-year old child level. I am disgusted and embarassed by his behavior most days.
“...Hey maybe that is why Obama has to have a graphic symbols attached to everthing he does....”
I think this symbols are “act as if” and it will be true. The recovery.gov logo makes him feel that he has accomplished something good and it is “real” Recovery even though we know it is a sham and it is all about a Liberal Payback/Earmark Patronage Spendulus Plan to benefit all his liberal/socialist friends who will help him get re-elected.
It is a pretend game with him.
His obsession with the President Elect sign was another absurd tactic. “ACT AS IF AND IT WILL BE TRUE.” He was hoping no one would find out who he really was...a fraud.
It is all smoke and mirrors. Sick is a good word for it.
They are NOT used to dealing with intelligent Americans. They think we are stupid (like their own constituency).
"Hasnt he been on television every day since November 4th??? I dont watch but I read about his show.
I don't watch, I read..it's better to not have to subject myself to their lies. Yes, he has to have his daily media face time so that he can continue to peddle his BS to his ignorant followers (the 0-bobble heads). He sounds like he's still stumping. Hmmm--I think he has a country to run???
"I think he still believes people are afraid of being called a racist if they disagree with him. We all need to get over it.
I'm not afraid of being called a racists. I live in the south, I'm white...liberals think we are all racists anyway, so I'm over it. But conservative America needs to stop playing into political correctness. Enough is enough.
"He reacts like a child to me. He is a grown man but somehow stunted at a 6-year old child level. I am disgusted and embarassed by his behavior most days."
He (and his press secretary) act puny..I'm sure his bashing on Rush is probably a feeble attempt to divide and/or distract conservatives, but it sure makes HIM look petty and weak. On TV? It looks like every press opportunity is all about how that moment will look in a 5th graders social studies book some day. It's all about "this historical moment" every day--all day. It IS embarrassing, because it's so immature.
Did he ever benefit from Affirmative Action or has that been put in the vault with the rest of the paper work?
“acting” is right. Bambi is stark raving mad
The rumor is that’s how he got into college ... but since those records are secret, we may never know.
Well that explains a lot.
Well the problem with being something he's not is: eventually it shows.
Like all O’s, O is empty
Actually, it’s very simple: the Kenyan resents the colonists, wouldn’t you?
I like the sound of that, “Acting”.
He snubbed the Brits good and proper and they should be mad as hell.
Yes, that is referred to as "magical thinking". It's a symptom of people with mental disorders (I'm serious)..like adult children etc...(but that's what most liberals are anyway).
Example of (lib) magical thinking:
"If we're just nice to terrorists, they will want to be nice to us."
It has no basis in reality.
"...magical thinking is "a fundamental dimension of a child's thinking."
