Is There a Democratic Revolt Brewing that Could Slow Obama Agenda? (`Blue Dogs' in Red States)
Rotor News ^ | March 3, 2009

Posted on 03/03/2009 7:00:18 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

A quiet revolt appears to be brewing in the U.S. House of Representatives that could slow some of President Obama’s fast-moving priorities. It appears that support for the Democratic majority’s progressive agenda is increasingly not assured as evidenced by 49 Democrats who appear to be defecting from the party line based on recent votes in the House.

The 49 Democrats are from congressional districts that backed Republican Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential race. The defections could cause significant heartburn for Democratic leaders charged with ushering through Obama’s three biggest priorities: a healthcare overhaul, a cap and trade system to curb carbon emissions and his fiscal 2010 budget blueprint. The president might also have trouble winning their votes for an anticipated second financial bailout package.

Many in the group of 49 Democrats have particular concerns about Obama’s call for allowing the Bush-era tax cuts for wealthy families to expire. Republicans are looking at the group of 49 Democrats as prime targets in their party’s push to expand the 178 seat minority in the 2010 elections. At the end of the day, Democrats in the current Congress can afford to lose as many as 37 Democrats on a given bill and still see it pass!

Will the GOP be smart or tough enough to use this? The jury's out on that one, IMO.

Jurys out? They’ve been too dumb to use every single advantage they’ve had for the last 8 years. Why would that change now?

There is a democratic revolt... it remains to be seen whether or not there will be a democrat revolt, however.

I’ll believe it when it happens but I doubt it will happen considering the Republicans have been intent over the years to be more like socialist Democrats.

Don’t look to Steele to capitalize on that or try and motivate the GOP to do anything with it.

Steele is a nitwit and another RHINO.

Smart Republicans should be lighting up the phone lines.

Democrats take mortgage deductions and charity deductions too. Churches and universities and charities will get starved out by this tax plan, and loss of the mortgage deduction for upper level earners will further depress housing. Some people on the democrat side must be starting to think it through.

Be positive. I see so many people who I never thought would vote for Obama now are livid. We have to have hope, I believe in the American people.

I hope all of the democrats alledgly in revolt save America. We are the greatest country in the world and I pray we stay that way.

What Obama is doing is wrong pure and simple. It will affect everyone big and small. If our Congress won’t help us; who will no matter which side of the fence they are on?

So --something called the Rotor News (something printed for the helicopter industry apparently)---reports this. Has anyone seen it mentioned anywhere else?

I'm not sure I'm buying it just yet.

I’d feel one hell of a lot better if we had one or two Zell Miller types in the Senate. All the current Dems goosestep in perfect unison. I guess all those nice majority percs are more important to them than their country.

“One party rule?” needs to be the bumper sticker for the 2010 elections.

allowing the Bush-era tax cuts for wealthy families to expire

Such utter crap. We sure didn't feel too wealthy (NYC single income of about 70k for family of five) when we saw ours.

The uprising has begun. When you can feel the discontent with Porkulus even in a liberal haven like Charlottesville Va (I find I’m almost able to speak my mind these days without castigation) you know some real “change” is afoot.

I wouldn’t get too giddy over supposed “blue dog” unrest. Only seven voted against the “stimulus” bill. Four others who initially opposed it changed from blue to yellow.
