Obama administration guns for assault-weapons ban
The Hill ^ | 2/26/09 | By Mike Soraghan

The Obama administration’s announcement that it will push to reinstate the assault -weapons ban has stunned Capitol Hill and revived a debate that has been dormant for years.

Congress’s leading supporter of the assault-weapons ban reacted with surprise and praise after Attorney General Eric Holder indicated the administration will push to renew the ban that expired in 2004.

“I was thrilled by it,” said Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), whose 1996 run for Congress was fueled by outrage at the cancellation of the ban. “We’ll continue to work with him. The president realizes this is real.”

Zero's Holder zeroes in on losing issue

Having denounced America as a nation of cowards, Eric Holder -- in a brilliant follow up -- now attacks America as a nation of (excessively armed) cowards. Obama apparently hired Holder to show there's someone even stupider than Obama.

Holder just found out that Mexico is filled with corruption and drug cartels, so he wants more gun laws in the U.S. (providing yet more evidence of the failure of affirmative action).

As part of the White House's serious push to make the 2010 elections good for Republicans, Holder told reporters that, "As Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons." Just a few gun-grabbing tweaks here and there, nothing to see here, move on.

Having lost to the Second Amendment in the D.C. v. Heller case (that liberals would like you to forget about), libbies now argue that a well-armed U.S. citizenry is making the streets of Mexico unsafe. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed -- unless Mexico has drug gangs!

And just when you thought the press is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party, a flurry of articles on Mexico's drug cartels mysteriously appeared moments after Holder's remarks on Mexico's drug cartels. "Drug cartels' tentacles stretch across U.S." (AP); "Mexico's fierce drug war looms large for U.S." (MSNBC); "Gunmen kill mayor of Mexican town" (CNN); "U.S. Is a Vast Arms Bazaar for Mexican Cartels" (New York Times).

Another headline read, "At least seven dogs killed in machete-massacre in Mexican flat," which means liberals will soon call for a ban on "assault machetes".

Holder maintains that, in his preposterous view, since the cartel violence in Mexico is spreading to the U.S., it's time to disarm people in the U.S. (Baffling brain-teaser: Erect border fence and install locks on Mexico's military armories . . . or, more U.S. gun laws?)

For liberals, it's always time to disarm. The Soviet Union has nukes, time to disarm. Soviet Union disappears, time to disarm. Iran's about to get nukes, time to disarm. Hezbollah and Hamas attack Israel, time for Israel to disarm. Osama attacks the U.S., time to elect Obama.

Liberals insist that the war on terror be carried out with search warrants and indictments because of al-Qaeda's Constitutional rights, but the Second Amendment has got to go because there's violence in Mexico. Muslim fanatics shouting "Death to America!" threaten to nuke America, but it's those Mexican gangs who are the real threat.

As with foreign policy and dealing with America's enemies in ways that don't work, to liberals it's always time for more 'gun control'. And 'gun-free-zones'. Virginia Tech's 'gun-free zone' massacre happens, time for more gun-free zones. A year ago, some nut open fires on the campus of Northern Illinois University, killing five students and wounding twelve others. Several seconds later, liberals demand more gun control. Turn America into one giant 'gun-free zone', and the ruthless drug gangs running Mexico magically turn into model citizens! You'll see!

Hmmmm, or maybe if we passed a law banning drug trafficking. That's never been tried.

The surest way to halt drug smuggling would be to dry up domestic demand -- by shipping all Hollywood celebrities to Mexico.

As further proof that liberals are full of Obama, violent crime in the U.S. has dropped by 38 percent since 1991, even as states passed Right-to-Carry and hunter protection laws, the federal waiting period for handguns ended, the "assault weapons" ban expired, and Congress and 33 states prohibited idiotic lawsuits against the evil firearms industry (source: NRA-ILA) Liberals spent this entire period screaming that less "gun control" would mean more crime, so murder went down 42 percent and robbery dropped by 45 percent. The only category of crime that rose during this period was sexual assault, but that was Bill Clinton dating the White House help.

Typifying the Democrats' profound knowledge about guns, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, in a TV interview immediately after the Virginia Tech shooting, couldn't tell the host what a "barrel shroud" was or why she's got the hots for regulating "barrel shrouds", according to her own legislation she apparently hadn't read. Asked to define the term, she explained that 'barrel shroud' means "a shoulder thing that goes up." When informed that that's not a 'barrel shroud', the Democrats' premier weapons expert admitted "I actually don't know what a barrel shroud is." Maybe she should stick with the subject she knows best -- deranged people randomly popping off.

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...

Ha! Goes to show that Barry is already overplaying his hand and has no concept of exactly how poisonous this issue is to Rat Congress critters.

Pelosi can't be happy since she is already looking at the 2010 elections, and as James Carville himself once said, "gun control is a loser issuer."

McCarthy is thinking of a burial shroud, one for the Second Amendment.

Another McCarthy, a REAL American, had it right. Senator Joe McCarthy. He said there were Communist infiltrators in our federal government more than 50 years ago. And they finally surfaced last November and seized control of all three branches and now we have Comrade 0bama and his politburo in charge.

And any dictatorial regime knows that the first thing it has to do to solidify control, is to begin disarming the public.

Great post JH2.

“and as James Carville himself once said, “gun control is a loser issuer.””

Yeah, hope so. I think the bill will pass the house as a simple majority is all that's required. However, there are several so called “Blue Dog” Democrats that won this past election cycle as pro-gun moderates. Well, they will get their chance to “walk their talk” so to speak. It will be interesting to see if they choose to buck the Obama/Reed or their constituency....

This will be the right time and the right issue for republicans to rally and hand the Obamassiah a resounding defeat.

If they can’t win on this issue they might as well hang up their togas.

Since gun ownership has reached record highs, including all sorts of “evil assault weapons”, could it be possible that a well armed and determined citizenship is actually a deterrent to violent crime? I'd say at the very least, it proves that more guns don't equal more crime. To be entirely fair, I'll admit that the lower crime rates don't entirely have anything to do with gun control. It has a lot to do with at least three things that were done well under the Bush administration.
Criminals were arrested and punished. A record high number of them remain incarcerated.
The economic conditions for average Americans were, in spite of the DemonRATs and MSM’s painting them as dismal, actually quite good.
The Bush justice department and homeland security concentrated on bad guys, not gun owners. There has been a resurgence of the idea that homeowners, gun owners and citizens have more rights than criminals, thugs, carjackers and drug dealers.
Fear not, liberal asshats. Obama and his team are busy working to drive the economy to record lows, empty the prisons, and pardon millions of criminal aliens. Once he achieves his welfare state, he'll have more time to devote to harassing evil conservatives, Christians and gun owners. Good times are on the way once more. /s

“President George W. Bush endorsed the renewal of the assault -weapons ban but did not call on Congress five years ago — then controlled by the GOP — to extend it.”

That LIE pi$$es me off every time it gets printed!

President Bush NEVER endorsed the stupid AWB, he said he would sign the renewal IF it made it to his desk.
As soon as he was elected he set out to make damn sure that it would never make it to his desk.
He worked with the NRA and Bill Frist to see that it would never even make it to a Senate floor vote.
The NRA wrote an article about it and thanked President Bush and Bill Frist for their help in killing the AWB.

The wave of gun buying around and following the election was just starting to slack a little. People were either running out of money or decided there had been no move of the Zero adminsitration to ban things... and now this. I expect the next gun show I hit to be more packed than ever.

Bush could have repealed the EO's of Clinton and Bush41 with a stroke of his pen. Import ban, DRMO ammo de-mill, expansions of BATFE persecution of FFL's. Not ONCE did he even make a noise like he wanted to right these wrongs.

Bush 43 wasn't a gun owners best friend. Not by any stretch. The best that could be said about him was that he didn't add to it, unless you had an FFL.

FBI Agent Shot, Possibly by Another Agent, in New York Drug Raid

Thursday, February 26, 2009

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An FBI agent was shot during a roundup of drug suspects at a house in Buffalo, authorities said.

Laurie Bennett, special agent in charge of Buffalo’s FBI office, said the agent is in stable condition after being shot while executing a search warrant at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Bennett did not identify the agent and did not comment on a report in The Buffalo News that another agent fired the shot. At a news conference, she declined to discuss details of the shooting and said an internal investigation involving FBI headquarters would take several weeks.

The agent was part of a group of law enforcement officers rounding up drug and money-laundering suspects. Thirty-one people were arrested.

Bennett said the shooting happened after a suspect was arrested at the house.

Holder not only backs an expanded AWB (More like a semi-auto fiream/deer rifle ban), he also supports an expanded HR 45 FOID with insurance requirement, and he supports ammunition accountability, which is the micro stamping and registration of of all ammo and destruction of nonstamped ammo.
