A New Assault Weapons Ban Will Not Reduce Crime In This Country
Fox News ^ | Thursday, February 26th, 2009 | John R. Lott, Jr.

It is pretty hard to seriously argue that a new so-called “assault weapons” ban would reduce crime in the United States. Even research done for the Clinton Administration couldn’t find that the federal assault weapons ban reduced crime.

There are no academic studies by economists or criminologist that find the original federal assault weapons ban reduced murder or violent crime generally. There is no evidence that the state assault weapons bans reduced murder or violent crime rates –and there’s even some evidence that they may have caused murder to actually rise slightly. Since the federal ban expired in September 2004, murder –and overall violent crime rates– have remained virtually unchanged.

In fact, when the assault weapons ban went off into the sunset in September 2004 there was no explosion of murder and bloodshed as gun control advocates feared. Immediately after the law expired murder rates fell and they fell more in the states without state assault weapon bans than the states with them.

But yesterday, Attorney General Eric Holder offered a new justification: “I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.” . . .

...it’s still a crime if the government’s the one breaking the law.
The Constitution is the [Highest] Law of the Land.

Only a tyrannical government would view the people with weapons that would enable them to rise up against it as crime.

It has nothing to do with reducing crime.

I agree. Seems to me, the only logical reason to regulate “assault” weapons at this time is that the people in charge fear a insurrection.

At least that fear would have some basis in fact.

Yes, they fear an armed citizenry when they try to do unmentionable things to us.

Statistics mean nothing to someone with an irrational fear.

To overcome irrational fears you have to educate, like teaching a person to hold a spider to over come the fear. It is the unknown mostly.

You can talk till your blue in the face, but they will not be cured.

At Walmart, the ammo cabinet hasn’t been full for a couple months now. I look every time I go there. It’s mostly empty now.

I have a better idea:

Instead of Banning Assault Guns lets just ban all the assaults that 0Bama and his evil cronies have been doing to the country for the past GENERATION and since the election.

It would bring back consumer confidence to say the least and the stock markets will take off like a rocket.

0Bama deliberately has STINKING SEWER BREATH esp since every time he opens his stinking mouth and spew his litany of lies the stock market takes a massive hit!!

I swear that he's deliberately shorting the market to his own gain.

“A New Assault Weapons Ban Will Not Reduce Crime In This Country”

To state the utterly obvious. However, that’s not really the point. The point is that Big Goverment Leftists have a pathological and in-bred, an*l-retentive need to control others in every aspect of what those others both do and think. Any time the thoughts and/or actions of citizens escape control, the Leftists get their knickers in a hopeless twist and develop insomnia and loss of appetite.

It isn’t about crime. It has never been about crime. It is about private ownership of firearms and how they can go about ending it. If they can’t sell it as a crime prevention issue, then they will soon start playing the terrorism card. The recent election I fear has revealed that this country’s population is almost stupidified enough to willingly relinquish our RKBA “for our own security.”

Posted this on the other thread:

Holder: (on the justification for the AWB) ”flow of guns going across the border into Mexico”

Geeze, that has to rate at least a 9 on a scale of 1-10 on the Lame-o-meter.

You know that they were itching to see word a big massacre cross the news wires, failing that at least SOME up tick in violence due to so-called “assault weapons.”

But come on!! ”help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico,

Here's a Radical concept !!!! Build a fence ACROSS the Border

The great thing about a fence is that IT WORKS BOTH WAYS!!!!!!

It's not about crime control, or gun control. It's about CONTROL.

Once that is achieved, we are subjects, not citizens.

This is about using “their own rules against them”

This is about neutering conservatives by showing “we are in charge” by the left.

Folks we can’t just talk, we have to take action by joining our local GOP clubs. These local chapters decide the delegates, these local chapters are the ones that produce the VIABLE house and senate candidates. We have to keep the kook opportunits and the RINOS out of the primaries and out of the races.

Remember vote splitting is now the political rule. Take over the local GOP and you control the elections future.

"But come on!! ”help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico."

By merely saying such things they reveal how corrupt they are. By believing it, we surely reveal how stupid (or craven) we are. Greedy, rapacious and powerful moneyed interests are the reason we don't control our borders, and they have nothing but contempt for we the people.
