In a second reversal of the Bush administration, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Wednesday he is scrapping leases for oil-shale development on federal land in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

Salazar rescinded a lease offer made last month for research, development and demonstration projects that could have led to oil-shale works on 1.9 million acres in the three states, greatly expanding the program.

"I am withdrawing that Jan. 14 solicitation because in my view it was a midnight decision, and it was flawed," Salazar told reporters on a teleconference call from Washington, D.C

Because now this isn’t a situation that can be fixed by political negotiation. It is not difficult to see what the end result will be...

During last year’s debates about more oil drilling and more domestic energy production, Democrats were against any new drilling. They said that energy companies weren’t using all of the leases they currently had, and that they should drill and explore on the land covered by existing leases.

Now this new administration is eliminating the existing leases that the oil companies were supposed to use before we started any new drilling/exploration?

And last night Obama said that we import more oil than we ever have, and that’s got to change. Exactly where are we going to get new energy resources to replace these oil imports though?

Why does Salazar constantly wear a cowboy hat?

Because it covers up his extremely pointy (and empty) head!

Salazar wants to shake down the oil companies for more money. He’ll re-lease the land once they cough up some serious money to the DNC or (fill in name of liberal organization).

The article says these leases came into effect on 1/14/09, so I don’t think they’d really be considered as the “existing leases” you refer to.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Wednesday he is scrapping leases for oil-shale development on federal land in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

Why to worry?

Soon all state land will be federal for our own good in the USA.

Washington will do a better job of regulating and sustaining than states could ever want to do in the "USA" so Ken has the right idea,....

SHRED THE CONSTITUTION!

Good plan Tonto. Let’s make sure we don’t develop any of our own domestic energy resources. Let’s do everything we can to increase the cost of gasoline and other fuels. And the guy is from Colorado. When he ran for the Senate, he ran as a “centrist.” Guess that charade is over.
